I'm so happy many here, probably Americans, "know" Alan Dershowitz.
He has previously said that New Yorkers love him, so he has no reason to complain.
I'm a NYC person although I now live in Europe. I know lots of Republicans in the city. I think all the people working in finance are Republicans and they are on juries too. Some voted for Trump the first time but I don't think a second time, despite loving the tax deductions.
Might remind Mr. Dershowitz about that guy who was prosecuted, convicted, and was given a 24 month sentence in prison for doing what Trump is being tried for in NY? You know that guy, what’s his name? The one who was Trump’s lawyer and made the hush money payments at Trump’s direction and was thrown under the bus to protect Trump from being prosecuted for exactly what NY is prosecuting him for. Yeah, Alan, that guy. You know, what’s his name. The one who flipped on Trump and cooperated, and plead guilty. Oh yeah, Micheal Cohen.
Dershowitz is just a Republican hack now...the fact Times Radio is even talking to him means they are looking astray on this matter lol

Is he? The classified documents case looks the strongest, and the Georgia election case looks pretty straightforwards too, since co-defendents have already plead guilty to charges, and some of the evidence known about is damning. This case, involving hush money, is difficult from the point of view that the jurors need convincing that the misdemeanors are elevated to crimes.
Alan. Its the law. He broke the law. He lied on his financial statements. Everything else is secondary.
Dershowitz doesn't get or he is in cahouts with Trump like Guiliani. He does not see that the combination of the misdemeanor with a criminal purpose will make it a felony. Dershowitz could have argued that Trump didn't want to hide it because of election issues. Or he actually was not the one wanting to hide it. That needs to be proven. And could be questioned.
But only because the Feds did not prosecute Trump for election interference doesn't mean there was nothing. Prosecutors have disgression. So not indicting does not mean there was nothing. It is not a judgement and an aquittal because the case was not put to a judge and ruled upon. So that is where Deshowitz contorts things: Not prosecuting is not making a judgement that is finding no fault. And Dershowitz mentioned it himself: Prosecutors are not interested in justice but in getting themselves reelected. (8:15) So he underemines his own argument: The decision of not prosecuting is an objective decision based on justice and therefore proving the innocence of Trump of committing a crime (election interference) in lieu of a ruling. Instead he admits that that decision could be totally based on political reasoning.
So until this has gone to court it doesn't prove anything than Dershowitz's lack of intellectual grasp or his independence. What an idiot!
Trump's former lawyer already went to prison for his own part in this crime. The case isn't weak - as I said, his lawyer already served prison time for his role in this case so it's kind of impossible that Trump would be found innocent for his own role in it - it's just the least serious of the 4 indictments he is facing but it is still serious.
The whole truth about Bill Barr is coming out right now. A book gives all the details of how Trump and Barr framed Michael Cohen to take the fall for Trump. The fact is that Michael Cohen paid Stormy Daniels for Trump, to protect his boss, and Trump paid him back bit by bit stupidly putting these payments on the books as corporate deductions. Yes, that tax fraud legally is a misdemeanor but all this was done for his campaign.
Cohen had more problems than that he had Tax offences and problems with Taxi medallions in New York. He is also a proven perjurer . Bit of a low life really!
As soon as I heard the first couple of sentences, I knew it was Dershowitz.

Served concurrently, and MC's sentence wasn't appealed because he invited the concurrent sentence. This point is constantly misrepresented, and undermines credibility. I want to see the former president face accountability, but everyone saying MC "did time" for this is misrepresenting the situation.

We good people who enjoy the separation of powers afforded by our Justice system based on the English system, have a provision that only "a fit and proper person" can hold public office. The definition of that goes back hundreds of years under common law and now statute law. And two of the main criteria specifically precludes anyone who is or was a bankrupt, and someone convicted of any crime. So even in 2016, Trump would never had got to the White House.
But this was not brought across into the American system in 1776 because George Washington's father was a convicted thief. And the Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's brother, has the original conviction framed above his desk at Althorp House.

@@janegriffiths7733Wrong. The fact the Federal Court failed to prosecute Trump does not mean that he committed no crime.
The fact, that there was a crime, has already been established (hence, the prior incarceration of Michael Cohen). A crime for which it was also well established that Trump was individual one: the instigator of the crime, not the accomplice.
The lack of Federal prosecution of Trump likely has more to do with the weaponisation of the DoJ by Trump’s legal wing man Bill Barr. Interesting, that Dershowitz failed to mention the politicisation of the DoJ under Bill Barr, or the political bias on display under a Supreme Court with three Trump appointees not to mention Judge Cannon in Florida with her abysmal, and deliberate, slow walking of the most easily proven case.
Why Trump was not prosecuted by the federal courts subsequently is more difficult to fathom, but most likely has more to do with the Justice department’s desire not to give the appearance of being politically motivated which, somewhat perversely, means that such political bias that persists, has remained firmly in favour of Trump, albeit for different reasons.
Admittedly, there are legal obstacles, for the reasons given by Alan Dershowitz, but his legal sophistry does not alter the fact that Trump’s books were not in order (a misdemeanour) and that this was due so in a deliberate attempt to conceal his connection to the hush money payments the timing of which was clearly related to his desire to hide character revealing facts about himself from the American electorate (the subject of the felony crime).
How on Earth anyone could not see through the deceitful, self serving grifter before that I have no idea.
This may be the least of his crimes, and perhaps the most difficult to prove, but Trump certainly ought to be held accountable. That much is clear from the other side of the Atlantic.
