Funny I have a flat earther friend that says the ISS doesn't exist. I am trying to capture it on my, much smaller, telescope, but at night to get the solar panels. I saw your other video on it, which inspired me to do it. :)

@Blackjack Videos Your comment is a little hard to understand, but are you actually saying that the ISS is a hoax? What was it then, that passed in front of the sun in this video? There are many other similar videos uploaded to youtube, that also show the ISS passing in front of the sun and moon, but according to you they are all fake?

Sir, I just want to thank you for a moment. I'm a thirteen year old astronomer wannabe, and I've looked up to your astronomy videos for a while. I have my own telescope, although it's a small one which I doubt can see farther than the inner solar system. I am very interested in space, but I still don't know much about the tools and measurements telescopes use. I'm certainly growing, though. You've inspired me to go outside and learn a lot more about space than I would of otherwise. I think you are an awesome astronomy youtuber, and I hope you can continue making videos in the future.

Also Tom while you're here, I might as well ask you something that I have yet to get an explanation for on the flat earth: The Moon's phases. On a flat Earth depending on your location, you should see different phases at the same time, and different SIDES of the Moon at the same time.
Please look at this image for more information: i.imgur.com/zFVJOkY.png
You can't deny that this is how the Moon should work on a flat earth. It's completely obvious.

    • @Tomspiracy

From this we can find the radius of the sun indeed we already know but just for curiosity and to motivate nutty scientists we can do that by knowing the velocity of iss and the angle subtended by the telescope to the outer ring of the sun or we can find the velocity of the iss and many other things.

Lol why would there be flames? If you're talking about rocket engines, you do know that the ISS is in space, where there's no friction right? That means that there's no need for the ISS to constantly propel itself, as nothing is slowing it down.
Also the ISS is only moving at 17,500mph, not 2 million. No idea where you got that number...

Logan Humphries did you ever see images of the sun that are presented as real that have flaming arches coming off of it.. Moving 2 million miles per hour there should be some sense of motion. Unless it's not a flaming ball and more like a light bulb

"did you ever see images of the sun that are presented as real that have flaming arches coming off of it.."
Those are images of the sun taken with a Hydrogen Alpha solar filter. Normal visible filters (like the one JWAstronomy is using) don't show the solar flares.
"Moving 2 million miles per hour there should be some sense of motion."
To clarify, do you think the ISS is moving at 2 million mph? Cause it's not, it's only moving 17,500mph. In fact I have no idea where you got that number, because it doesn't match up with anything:
      ISS orbital speed - 17,500mph
      Earth's orbital speed - 70,000mph
Sun's orbital speed (around milky way) - 450,000mph
Why do you keep saying 2,000,000mph?

SquiDragon cheers.... Any chance you could show some measurable curvature to the earth?
I'd also be interested to know of any scientific proof a positive pressure system existing next to a negative pressure system without a physical barrier?
But yeah obviously this video is 100% legit. This kid blatantly isn't a freemason.

      Tomspiracy
      Step 1 - Get a level
Step 2 - Find some flat ground
Step 3 - Dig a hole straight down, so that the sun can shine into it and you can see the shadow relative to the top of the hole
Step 4 - Have a buddy pretty far away do the exact same thing
Step 5 - Facetime that buddy and have you and them measure the angle of the sun going into each hole at the same time. They will be different, and then you can see that the earth is curved, or the angles would be the same.
That’s how the found the curvature of the earth thousands of years ago.

SquiDragon search Dr Zack flat earth maths. This experiment has been replicated on a FLAT table. Debunked 100% it does not effectively measure curvature.

Facetime existed back then? Just kidding, but I'm sure the FE-believers have an answer to that like "but the sun is closer to the Earth than you think."

You need a p1000 by nikon to see foot steps plus other things on the moon + other planets. Find an attachment for the p1000 & attach it to the scope.

    Fantastic!
I have seen the "ISS AND MANY 'LEO's" transverse the moon (not the sun, I did not have the correct filter to view the sun at the time) many times but with a lesser telescope than you have. GREAT SETUP YOU HAVE!
I have also TALKED to ISS on ham radio on what they call 2-meters! (144 MHz) IT IS A QUICK CONVERSATION (QSO) and only last for about 10 seconds (AOS-LOS) because many more hams want to QSO throughout the USA also.
Do not pay attention to the ignorant people because what they "DO NOT UNDERSTAND" they consider it fake and or fantasy!
Bottom line, ENJOY YOUR HOBBY! GREAT VIDEO!

There are 30,000 satellites in Oribita of the earth. Why do we never see them passing in front of the sun or in front of the moon?

    • @C00ltronix
      @C00ltronix 5 лет назад +1

ISS = 400Km away, very large, for example Astra (TV satellite, it doesn't move though) very small, 36,000Km away. To put it into perspective, on the image below you can see the elephants in front of Kilimanjaro, but you can't see the ants on the mountains slope: www.thomsontreks.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/elephants-kilimanjaro.jpg,

You might want to research just how big the average satellite actually is (quite small) and how far out in orbit they usually are (much further than the ISS) and you might realise why it's quite hard to ever see a satellite, other than the ISS, transiting the sun or moon.
