  • In this extended video, NASA astronauts Mike Hopkins and Victor (Ike) Glover offer “Sunday Morning” viewers a tour of the International Space Station - from maneuvering through the complex in a weightless state, to exploring the crew quarters, EVA airlock, laboratory, kitchen, exercise room, toilet, and observation port (the Cupola).

      Hi MaryAnn, I agree. I am almost your age and it is all so fantastic. As for the arm, I have just finished a Masterclass by Chris Hatfield which is excellent and so informative. The astronauts ride on our arm(s)when doing spacewalks. Chris Hatfield told a story of coming back in after completing a repair, with his feet strapped into the arm. He knew he was coming up on Australia and wanted to see the lights on the western coast at night. He turned off the lights on his suit (helmut) so he could see them. He knew they were going through the aurora, all green and many other colours. He looked to his left and saw the space station but when he looked right, the green and blue of the aurora was rippling over and under his outstretched arm! And this is all at about 450km above the surface of the earth at 17,200 mph. How phenonmenal.

    My wife’s Father worked on designing portions of the Skylab in the early 70’s. As his career progressed he was leader of different teams once the initial design phases of ISS began. He retired in 2004. But he was contracted to help with the issues they would run into as time went on because the latest Engineers were not familiar with the older technology used on ISS and basically needed help. He has since passed away. His passion was space. As we progress be it ever so slowly to get back to the Moon and eventually Mars. I hate that he will miss those kinds of new milestones for NASA and space exploration. I know the desire to fund NASA has certainly lost its momentum it’s research we need!

    This was just too cool. I hope we get another tour for when Dream Chaser and HTV-X are both berthed to the station to see their interiors too, also they didn't get into Kibo and up into that little smaller module inside it, so not even giving the full impression of just how much volume the station has, but other longer tour vids did at least.

    • @aethelredtheready1739
      @aethelredtheready1739 3 года назад +18

      The temp is preset by ground, the astronauts don’t get much of a say on it. The heat actually needs to be wicked away by radiators, too much is generated by onboard processes and sunlight hitting station, so the cooling is performed by the large white “wings” you can see on the outside.

    • @chookin1
      @chookin1 3 года назад

      Where dies the heat bleed to thats being generated from the sun? Theres no uv protection so in sunlight theyd be toast and in the shadow it would be minus 200 degrees. You cant bleed heat without a tranfer medium (atmosphere on earth) so aircon wouldnt work, and you cant heat it because theres simply not enough power to heat it from solar panels and batteries. Just another space fraud .
