    Here's some "Smack Down" for the haters & IN THIS MAN'S DEFENSE. . .
    The name of the VID: "Night In The Woods With Limited Gear". Sure, he brought his own food, he didn't say he'd be catching his this time.
    Also, his name is STAY PRIMITIVE MY FRIEND - - this VID is almost as primitive as it gets.
    For Christ's sake, he just taught some of us the very basics of building a shelter, making a fire & fire-pit (even touched on reading Temp's based on the height of one's own hand from the fire), the various types of wood & stones he gets to use in HIS locale. He even broke it all down as a timeline in his description!
    (B.T.W. - - in the description he said the blade was an OKC Ranger 5". . .)
    Look, if he doesn't take care of his blade, it's his choice - - he stated his intentions, so DROP THE SUBJECT. It's his channel & he's the one doing all of this for himself & US, there's NO reason to be unfriendly to the guy!
    You complainers & know-it-alls ought to be ashamed of yourselves for bashing him.

    • @LEO1WOLF
      @LEO1WOLF 7 лет назад +9

      S.P.M.F. - you Sir, have at least one Friend in the U.S. Keep on doing the VID's you do & in the way that YOU choose. Keep fighting the good fight as I know more than just a few of your viewers learn something in EVERY VID that you make. Peace Bro!

    y'all don't seem to know or understand how tough this dude is. look at his routine. his confidence. he didn't bring all the flashy shit I see most YTers with. no ridiculous gear at all. this level of expertise isn't bought. I'd suggest everyone really study this video and listen to the advice. I wanna live off the wild someday, just as I suspect you have done countless times. I hope you post more vids. I want as little gear as possible.

    But yours truly stands-out.

    FIVE thumbs up.

    I was very excited to see many new ideas in your video. New to me, any way. I especially liked how you braced your shelter vertical "y" end supports against the two rooted trees. It made your shelter's foundation up-rights stronger and it made me smile. Thanks:)

      Its probably the biggest ''fail'' in my life. I had a lot of expectation in this travel, I had made so much sacrifice ... and the forest completely stopped me from doing ... anything.
      After this, I came back completely devastated home, but with something very clear in my mind ; Forest can be ... hostile like there is no word to explain. You really need to adapt to mother nature.

    • @RobertMcKenzie
      @RobertMcKenzie 10 лет назад

      Cédrik Grenier Cedrik, maybe the word you are looking for is "unforgiving". Google le traduit comme "impitoyable" mais ca veut dire "ruthless" en Anglais - qui n'est pas tout a fait la meme chose. Perhaps "inexorable" says it better.

    • @Im-just-Stardust
      @Im-just-Stardust  10 лет назад +2

My ego took a shot he did not expect on this trip lets say it ! I was looking for a very rare species of tarantula and I was confident. I was very prepared physically, very well trained, but not mentally unfortunately.Yeah rune you right man, unforgiving ... is really the word. Forest can be unforgiving.

    I am surprised no one has noted you built or covered your shelter WRONG....
    Start at the bottom and layer to the top, just like on a house. Lay you bows like shingles, overlapping from the bottom row working to the top, overlap the lower row with the next in line till you reach the top. Two or three layers on the top row to avoid leaks.

      Agree. 36 blows with the knife and half a dozen boots is hardly minimal effort.I liked the shelter but shouldn't the green stuff start at the bottom, then be overlapped going up - like tiles on a roof to let the water run off? I never built a shelter so am talking from the point of sitting on my ass in a comfortable chair, but even so. I'm trying not to knock it but if you are carrying very little equipment then you're not likely to have a big fat steak on hand. And I also didn't see any water intake during the whole thing, so where was that coming from? I winced when the fire pit was being dug out and dirt was being thrown into the stream, which I thought was the water source?
      And I wanted to see you share that steak with your dog :)
      I did enjoy the vid but not sure what the point of it was.

      I gave him some piece of the steak as well as its regular food that I had . No we dont need to purify water with dogs, they are like wolfs their digestion is much stronger than ours

      +Cédrik Grenier (Bow drill tips page) About digestion, i had a question. isn't human's digestion weak because we (occidental people) are used to eat pretty clean stuff ? if we were born and raised in the wild, wouldn't we have a much stronger digestion ?

    Really cool video brother: only 2 things i would make a little different: 1. I would place my camp a little more away from the water (because of insects) 2. I would position the leaves of the fear the other direction (that the wooden part is on the top and the green part faces down). Keep it up Brother!

      @Metal00m 8 лет назад

      Yep! There is one I want to build and will perhaps one day get around to presenting it, perhaps on youtube and that's a natural draft furnace used in Chrysokamino (crete) (and probably common in early antiquity) which is able to melt copper (1000C) using no bellows, but requires constant and fairly moderate wind. Perhaps its one that +Stay Primitive My Friend could try, although it won't work in the woods!

    Shelter is fine. But, the chosen spot is wrong. You are WAY too close to the water. This close to water means more bugs, more humidity (harder to keep warm), and water means more chances that animals who come to drink will wander in your camp. You are in a survival situation, you do need water, but you don't need to have "running water" in your shelter as if you were at home. A few meters away would be better.
    Also, you choose the worst way to start a fire: you expand too much energy for nothing. If you are the kind of person that carries such a big knife on you all the time, than you should also carry a way to start fire: lighter, matches, ferrocium rod, magnifying lens, etc.

      Part of the fun is to start the fire without any equipment, I wouldn't bring a lighter either if had more experience.

    • @Im-just-Stardust
      @Im-just-Stardust  8 лет назад +4

      If I had to do it again, I would do the very same thing except go a few feet away. Not much though. The sound of the stream was very relaxing and I had access to water right away.
      I am the kind of guy that can't stop thinking, the sound of the stream makes me stop thinking. This is worth it, in my case.

    When covering your shelter with leaves, you must start at the bottom moving upward so that the rain water will not seep thru and will slide down.

    I almost cried when you lost your ember :(((. You are so persistent, but you described very well the mistake you made. You have a great amount of skills but you are humble enough to admit and explain those to your viewers the mistakes that happen to everyone. Excellent shelter too and sweet, shockingly large dog. "Woof"! He wanted that meat. I did too. I smelled it all the way from Michigan. :)
