Yeah, Robert Eggers directing Batman is a nonsense suggestion. Might as well get the director of Poor Things to direct Batman. Just because Eggers directs a Gothic horror movie, doesn't mean he's a match for Batman.
Its pretty obvious that Eggers will continue to make “his” films, i dont get why Grace keeps thinking he will go mainstream ( and no, its not that going more mainstream is a bad thing) has she ever heard him speak?
Grace is right, he should go mainstream. His last 2 films have costed over 50m each. There's a reason studios would be willing to give him more money if Nosferatu makes at least 150m. And that is if he goes mainstream. For example he should adapt Edgar Poe's work.
Going mainstream isn’t necessarily a bad thing tho. He’s almost there with Nosferatu. I’ve seen people saying he’d be a good match with the Phantom of the Opera and that would be pretty mainstream in my opinion.
@@sophiag612 Yes i agree, and i my original comment is not in the vein of “mainstream is not artsy enough” but that he seems like a Director rooted on theater and crafting his own movies, i agree that an adaptation of some play or book he likes and the studio is interested could be nice way to go, but as you said it correctly Nosferatu is almost that and we can agree it is still a dense movie and not one that will be commercially amazing. Bottomline, Sonic 3 will end up as the highest grossing Paramount 2024 movie, the highest grossing of the franchise, and the most profitable movie as it cost less to make and promote than Mufasa. Paramount is on a upwards trajectory with Sonic, Mufasa on the other hand will end up as a disappointment since it will end up with a fraction of the previous movie and it played in way more theaters than Sonic was allowed to. Remember, Disney spent more money renting hundreds of more theaters than Paramount did and Sonic is making more money per screen so the numbers by themselves don't tell the whole story.

Eggers wouldn't want to take over Batman 2. He said recently he can't imagine himself making something set in the modern day, he hates the idea of filming a cell phone. Period pieces are his passion.
8:52 I like the idea of Robert Eggers directing The Batman - Part II if Matt Reeves can't. However, would Eggers really be interested in doing that? Would he be interested in basically becoming a director-for-hire and basically having to dance to Reeves' bell? I honestly don't think so.
I am so happy for this movie. Internet discourse made me think the movie was a flop until I went to see it and the cinemas was PACKED even though I watched it over a week after it came out. It’s such a great film overall
Influencers online will have you thinking a movie is trash when it's the greatest thing you personally needed in your life at that moment - something fun to see, and maybe thought provoking, too. That's why it's so important to just see things for yourself and not listen to anybody else's opinions - especially if they don't like a certain genre.
I feel like one of the biggest cash grabs Disney could do is to redo pirates of the Caribbean and actually have Johnny Depp come back as Jack Sparrow and also have his daughter actually play his long-lost daughter he never knew about.
in a few days Moana 2 will cross a billion and Mufasa will cross 500 million. The Lion clobbered the hedgehog; there's no catching up. Lion king mufassa has grossed about 131.4 million after the budget and advertising so far. Sonic 3 grossed abot 122 so far after estimated budget. Mufasa is not wining by much after all said and done. Keep in mind all this is going on with Disney Bullying tactics as seen all over the world by how many premium theaters Disney has kept from sonic. Mind you lets count how many tickets sold all together and not talk about just money and see that more tickets were slod for sonoc but since premium tickets cost more lion king would automatically make more because of the higher ticket prices.
Hey Grace! Can’t wait to join you live later tonight for the Golden Globes live stream 🏆 I’m watching it with my mom and my grandma. We are rooting for WICKED 🩷💚 & AGATHA 🖤💜
As much as I love Nicole Kidman, idk how you think she’s the front runner for best actress. The top contenders atm are Mikey Madison, Karla Sofia Gascon, Cynthia Erivo, Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore. Nicole Kidman and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are right beneath them.
@lanalan4157 nothing to cope about. The fact that it took all these premium screens and has yet to scratch much. Movies like deadpool and wolverine, moana, inside out did gang busters. But mufasa could not? Despite having premium screens ans more theater rooms than sonic and sonic is pacing close? Hmmmm interesting. Again nothing to cope about. But considering how much lion king made and how much mufasa has made (such a titular character) pretty bad. Also budget is way higher too plus marketing. Nothing to cope about.
I also feel like there's a gross double standard in all this. Disney movies are expected to be masterpieces while Sonic movies can skate by on just being "fun movies."
A lot of that has to do with how much Disney spends on their movies versus other studios like Paramount. When you're investing hundreds of millions of dollars more than your competitors, people are going to set their expectations higher. That's just how it is. The Sonic movies don't need to be masterpieces, as they're not aiming for being blockbuster events like Star Wars or the MCU. They just need to be fun to watch and good enough to make their modest budgets back, which is exactly what they're doing.
Mufasa isn’t a cash grab at all. It’s actually a really thoughtful and emotional story that has such a larger meaning to it. I love your content but don’t call it a cash grab when you haven’t seen it. It STOMPS sonic in theming, story and everything else.
Fact Sonic 3 is not being written off and is in the ring with Mufasa is a win by itself. Mufasa is riding on he Lion King legacy which is a mighty legacy.
Only Domestically, it actually started with an almost 30 M advantage and its closing the gap day by day. But outside of US Mufasa is almost 150 M over Sonic (307 vs 149).
@ebarmaz but Mufasa released internationally a few days before it's domestic release. While Sonic 3 released internationally 5 days later after it was released domestically.
@@AnythingEverythingT.V. yes but Sonic is only missing Philippines and Turkey by now. Last week it got released in India which was its biggest market yet to open and didn’t come close to Mufasa’s opening there. Every week the international income Mufasa has generated has been bigger than Sonic 3 even with Sonic being a newer film in each market. So yes, technically it’s impossible for Sonic to come close to Mufasa with a +150 M deficit which has been increasing consistently week by week. Also, another factor to consider is the holiday season is ending today internationally so that will also diminish the returns both movies will get in the next days.
It looks like Disney will have all of the top 3 highest grossing movies of 2024 and the only movies to gross over $1 billion worldwide. Which Disney really needs right now to help recoup all of their financial flops in the last 2 years!
@Anonymous_853 It's a sequel/prequel to one of the highest grossing films of all time The only reason Sonic even thought it could outdo it for a second was because Disney didn't bother to market it
Sonic 3 is currently beating Mufasa in the United States, and that's the only place where both movies came out at the same time. The worldwide numbers are harder to track, especially since the release dates are staggered for Sonic 3, but even if Mufasa does better in other countries, the fact that it's even close is pretty telling. You also have to consider the budgets for both movies. Mufasa reportedly cost a lot more to make than Sonic 3, and that's not even getting into the marketing. Regardless of how well it does internationally, Sonic 3 doesn't have to make as much money as Mufasa does to be considered a success.
Grace, you should give Mufasa a chance, saying it is just a cash grab is a diservice to Barry Jenkins. The film is really good, really enjoyed it, specially the first 2 thirds.
so is almost every sequel or prequel… it’s called Movie Business. They keep doing sequels and other derivative work not for art purposes but to make money, which is a safer thing to get if you use an stablished IP. Sonic 3 is also a cash grab or do you consider it high art?
Sonic 3 may be very popular in the United States only. Globally, Sonic's fame is limited to video games. When you ask people about Sonic they will tell you the video game. As for Mufasa, she is a famous character around the world in the movie The Lion King. Therefore, his fame is global and people around the world want to watch him.
All those harsh criticisms on Mufasa and then you say you haven’t even seen it???? Come on Grace. To me it was significantly better than the first one. Was it a bit bland and by the books in parts? Sure. Unwatchable? Absolutely not.
I would love for disney to release another #1 movie promo this week to stick it to the sonic fans & lets be honest the disney haters hiding behind them 😂💀
I think that The Brutalist is going to open wider this Friday. I walked by an advertisement for the movie at AFI Silver on New Year’s Day. It said special screening this Thursday and the opening was on Friday January 10.
This weekend is the perfect example of the cannibalistic nature of Hollywood. Both mufasa and sonic could have been huge on their own but universal chose to ruin their box office by trying to prove a point. Yes, Disney is weaker than it’s been in years and mufasa looks terrible but why try to prove that with a potentially billion dollar film in Sonic? Dumb.
Do you know why people say it is a cash grab? Mufasa litterally feared Sonic so they bought too many theaters resulting in Sonic not being able to gain the audience it deserved.
Sonic is more fan driven demand. Lion King is one self-contained story that was told (poorly) by Disney already. There was really no need or demand for a made up origin story on Mufasa.
I went to see both Sonic 3 and Mufusa and I have to say I enjoyed Mufusa a little more. I will get both on 4k blu ray when they come out unless Disney tries to jack up the price for their physical release like they did for Deadpool vs Wolverine which I still have not purchased until a sale.
I’m sorry but coming from a non bias perspective, Mufasa is just the better film between it and Sonic. I really tried with Sonic but it just feels like bland children’s entertainment. Mufasa isn’t perfect but it tells a heartfelt and at times pretty soulful story and it’s getting WAY too much hate online. I think the audience and fairly strong box office legs are a much better representation on what Mufasa actually is

I saw Mufasa and I liked it!
I'm going this weekend
I feel like one of the biggest cash grabs Disney could do is to redo pirates of the Caribbean and actually have Johnny Depp come back as Jack Sparrow and also have his daughter actually play his long-lost daughter he never knew about.
Nah
No....
in a few days Moana 2 will cross a billion and Mufasa will cross 500 million. The Lion clobbered the hedgehog; there's no catching up. Sonic3 should finish over 500M but Mufasa should finish around 700M; probably 50 million below Wicked which is crazy since Mufasa opened soft; I never thought Mufasa would match Wicked's total.
clobbered?!?! how sonic was ahead of Mufasa and still close what are u talking about unc.
what? how is it been clobbered? its been ahead for so long
@Mr.mayonnaise- yes clobbered. Mufasa will end around 700 mill Sonic will not come close to
@@MD19853 but that hasn’t happened yet so how has mufasa already clobbered sonic that makes no sense
@@queen_elizabeth ok? Not sure what that has to do with this but Quinn Lizzy shouldn’t you be dead rn who got ur reboot card? 👵💀🪦
Going to see Sonic 3 again for a 5th time tomorrow. I'm gonna see it at least once a week until it leaves my local cinema😂😂😂 ALL HAIL SHADOWWWWW🖤❤️🖤❤️
ALL HAIL SHADOW!!!
And Megatron, agreed? 🔥🔥🔥✊✊✊
No fair, i've only seen it twice ! 😅
I'm trying to see it once a week. ALL HAIL SHADOW❣🖤🫡❤
I will go Again this weekend
Still won't help it Beat Mufasa
Remember, Sonic 3 never full released in the whole world until January 15. It not over yet if y’all know and Mufasa is not make a billion dollar okay
Still waiting to watch Mufasa! I will this coming weekend hopefully 🤞
Sonic was a real competition only in US, this should have been made more clear in your analysis, Mufasa destroyed it internationally since day 1.
Sonic 3 wasn’t even out.
@@Wanda-j1h Sonic came out worldwide last weekend and Mufasa beat it even though it was its 2nd weekend.
@ The film was not released everywhere. You can look it up.
@@babarsuhail5678Sonic 3 was only released in some countries last week. This weekend, it was just released in a few more countries and there’s still like 3 more countries it won’t be released until mid January. The fact that you can claim Mufasa “destroyed” Sonic 3 internationally since day 1 when it wasn’t even out at the time whereas Mufasa was released everywhere since Day 1 is pretty pathetic.
Aw, yeah!! Someone who understands!!!
Grace the mufasa had a trending song so people wanted to watch mufasa
Happy New Year, Grace!!
Your hair looks great!
I mean Mufasa also has that trend going on with the brothaaaa song lol. So people are probably going to see it
I am so glad I have no idea what you are talking about
@@MaxxRemKing1that’s why your fav movie is coming 2nd and everyone else is enjoying a good and fun movie. They were talking about how the British actor was pronouncing “brother” is one of the songs. Stop trying to be different that it ends up ruining potentially fun experiences for you
@ um I saw Nosferatu I didn’t watch Sonic 3 or Mufasa…. I never even watched sonic 1 or 2. So tell me again about my favorite movie?
Lion king mufassa has grossed about 131.4 million after the budget and advertising so far. Sonic 3 grossed abot 122 so far after estimated budget. Mufasa is not wining by much after all said and done. Keep in mind all this is going on with Disney Bullying tactics as seen all over the world by how many premium theaters Disney has kept from sonic. Mind you lets count how many tickets sold all together and not talk about just money and see that more tickets were slod for sonoc but since premium tickets cost more lion king would automatically make more because of the higher ticket prices.
I loved Mufasa.
I grew up watching the original Lion Ling and the second one so Mufasa felt a lot like a great prequel to that story.
Idk about the ratings, but I will watch it. Not in theaters, though, since they were really greedy in the beginning, idk if they still are.
Grace you should give mufasa a chance, it was a fun watch.
I dont know how you can review a movie without seeing it calling it a cash grab….
Grace mufasa has already played almost everywhere......Sonic 3 as of now only played half the places internationally
both films were in 55 markets this weekend.
Sonic 3 is in more territories than Mufasa this weekend per Deadline.
stop the cap!
Sonic is just in the Shadow of mufasa n some dont want to accept it cuz they don't like it
Both films have the same amount of markets….
In most of the places where Sonic 3 is out, Mufasa had a head start, so it's going to take a while for Sonic to catch up in the worldwide box office.
I can’t escape Squid Game on my TikTok! I’m glad it’s doing just as good as season 1.
"Dear Santa" is ParamountPlus, so I'm not sure why it's labeled Peacock
Disney must be celebrating now since Mufasa & Moana 2 beat Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Wicked!
I have gotten second-hand cringe watching the Sonic fanbase react to Mufasa having legs.
Me too, watching Disney's reactions at Sonic beating them.
@Anonymous_853 y'all are cringe
Sonic 3 for the win
Way to make the guy's point 😂
If that's a compliment, thanks! 😂
Also, @kwalton7690, thanks, you too, but you're kinda beating me at it.
Disney bought out the movie theaters n made sure they had Mufasa advertised everywhere.
$100 mill in advertising probably.
Cope
@lanalan4157 nothing to cope about. The fact that it took all these premium screens and has yet to scratch much. Movies like deadpool and wolverine, moana, inside out did gang busters. But mufasa could not? Despite having premium screens ans more theater rooms than sonic and sonic is pacing close? Hmmmm interesting. Again nothing to cope about. But considering how much lion king made and how much mufasa has made (such a titular character) pretty bad. Also budget is way higher too plus marketing. Nothing to cope about.
@@raf686 the cope is even stronger on this one ...lol
Nope
@lanalan4157 not really let me know when you have a better rebuttal
March in Japan is cherry blossom 🌸 season which thematically is perfect for a Wicked release.
Happy new years🎆
I also feel like there's a gross double standard in all this.
THANK YOU. It’s such a great movie
Disney wouldn’t have made it if it didn’t make money. Hence, cash grab.
Can’t people just be happy for both films doing well?🙄
Fact Sonic 3 is not being written off and is in the ring with Mufasa is a win by itself.
Mufasa is riding on he Lion King legacy which is a mighty legacy.
Sonic fans thought they put disney on the ropes but they ended up giving the film a publicity boost that even disney itself didn't
More like Disney pressuring theaters to show just Mufasa
@Nighttale233 lmao if that were true then the marvels and wish wouldn't have tanked last year
Well, it is true. Dunno what are you so mad about it for.
honestly mufasa was actually like really good 😭
Sonic 3 still hasnt released in japan which has the mostt sonic fans ig. So it will climb
I did expect Mufasa to beat Sonic, it’s actually really Really Good y’all, better than Inside Out 2 and Moana 2!
Isn't Sonic almost $20 million ahead of Mufasa domestically?
Mufasa is a better movie than Sonic 3. People just want to hate anything Disney but Mufasa was a decent film
LOL
@@vagandoporelmundo I’m glad you watched both films.
Sonic three was a better movie
Ok who in their right mind was ACTUALLY hyped for Mufasa over Sonic 3? I’ll wait
I saw Mufasa yesterday and I thought it was sooo good! The ending could’ve been stronger but overall it was a fun time.
It looks like Disney will have all of the top 3 highest grossing movies of 2024 and the only movies to gross over $1 billion worldwide. Which Disney really needs right now to help recoup all of their financial flops in the last 2 years!
They had a good year though in 2022 though with the three marvel movies and avatar
Does this bozo realize Sonic 3 hasn’t released worldwide
Sonic was released worldwide 2 weeks ago…. There are only like 2 countries left…
@@MD19853correct, only Phillipines and Turkey and not much to be made there
My favorite start to my week!! Thank you Grace!!
idk why Sonic fans thought they could outdo the freaking lion king
I don't know why you think there's no chance for them to do so.
@Anonymous_853 It's a sequel/prequel to one of the highest grossing films of all time
The only reason Sonic even thought it could outdo it for a second was because Disney didn't bother to market it
What do you mean?! Disney litterally bought so many theaters so Sonic couldn't profit properly!
@Anonymous_853
I agree with you, Disney cheated by filling all of its theaters to overshadow Sonic 3 (🤦♂️).
The film is really good, really enjoyed it, specially the first 2 thirds.
it is a cash grab though …
so is almost every sequel or prequel… it’s called Movie Business. They keep doing sequels and other derivative work not for art purposes but to make money, which is a safer thing to get if you use an stablished IP. Sonic 3 is also a cash grab or do you consider it high art?
@@ebarmazNo, Sonic 3 ain’t a cash grab, Mufasa isn’t either. Joker 2 however is an actual cash grab
The true king is on top! Always has been worldwide!
I liked Mufasa 🤷🏻♂️
I would love for disney to release another #1 movie promo this week to stick it to the sonic fans & lets be honest the disney haters hiding behind them 😂💀
Who's hiding?
-Prowl TFA (and me rn)
I think that The Brutalist is going to open wider this Friday. I walked by an advertisement for the movie at AFI Silver on New Year’s Day. It said special screening this Thursday and the opening was on Friday January 10.
I really enjoyed Mufasa. It’s better than the ads make it look. I was delightfully surprised. ❤
Grace, I hope you put out a push notification for your Golden Globe coverage when it starts!
Dumb.
I saw Mufasa and I loved it!
Happy new year grace 🎉🎉
you people are so mean to grace over the smallest most insignificant things. she makes these videos for your enjoyment. chill the f out
You need to stop defending her
And not everyone trusts her
The best thing about mufasa was the music. My brotha was a banger
I loved Mufasa. It is not a cash grab! Although the music could be better.
Do you know why people say it is a cash grab? Mufasa litterally feared Sonic so they bought too many theaters resulting in Sonic not being able to gain the audience it deserved.
I'm excited for Moana to enter the one billion dollar club 🌊
How is a third installment of Sonic, not a cash grab?
Sonic is more fan driven demand. Lion King is one self-contained story that was told (poorly) by Disney already. There was really no need or demand for a made up origin story on Mufasa.
All sequels are meant to be cash grabs!
Because Sonic 3 introduced characters that weren't in the previous installments. Disney is stretching nostalgia to a ridiculous degree.
Cynthia Erivo is the reason Wicked is so good
Black excellence
15:23 a goof by Nielsen. Dear Santa is a Paramount+ movie, not Peacock.
Mufasa was a good movie. Grace you should watch it. The only criticism was the music.
Mufasa was awesome...
Hey grace 🎉 happy new year everyone 🎉
I’m sorry but coming from a non bias perspective, Mufasa is just the better film between it and Sonic. I really tried with Sonic but it just feels like bland children’s entertainment. Mufasa isn’t perfect but it tells a heartfelt and at times pretty soulful story and it’s getting WAY too much hate online. I think the audience and fairly strong box office legs are a much better representation on what Mufasa actually is
