Hey everyone, it's Altaf. I wanted to hop in the comments and say that I got the actor who plays "Jake" in the Naatu Naatu song wrong. His name is actually Eduard Buhac. Huge thanks to @harshaashu2484 for calling it out. That's my fault!
This movie was so impactful. I think all of the acting was fantastic because they were willing to be "ugly" and raw with their expressions. The emotions were there. It wasn't about what shot "looked the nicest," but which one accurately portrayed the emotions. It was such a nice change of pace!
I can literally feel Altaf's passion for the movie coming out of the screen. Resonated with every word he said about how the movie made him feel. Enjoyed listening to this so much!! I love a 100 things about this movie, but one important thing that I took away was that blockbuster cinema can also be elevated artistry.
RRR absolutely blew me away. The comparison to Fury Road is excellent. I'd love to see you guys make some more Indian movie recommendations and discussions-- it's pretty daunting to see the amount of Indian movies I've missed that I could watch.
Hey, Altaf here! Like I mentioned in the podcast, I’m more familiar with Bollywood. Here are some starting points: 1. Sholay 2. 3 idiots 3. Dabangg 4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge 5. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaraa
@@MoviesThatChangedUs Barring Dabangg, it's a solid list. Below are some of the recommendations: 1. Bahubali (1&2) & Eega (by the director of RRR) (Telugu) 2. Tumbbad (Hindi) 3. Sardar Udham (Hindi) 4. Andhadhun (Hindi) 5. Drishyam 1&2 (originally made in Malayalam but you will also find the remake in Hindi language by the same name. I would recommend you to go for the original one which is in Malayalam) 6. Manjummel Boys (Malyalam) 7. Gully Boy (Hindi) 8. Tamasha (Hindi) 9. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Hindi) 10. Taare Zameen Par (Hindi) 11. Gangs of Wasseypur (1&2) (Hindi) 12. 777 Charlie (Kannada) 13. Super Deluxe (Tamil) 14. Kaithi & Vikram (from the same universe) (Tamil) 15. Maharaja (Tamil) 16. Kill (Hindi) 17. 12th fail (Hindi) 18. Uri: the surgical strike (Hindi) 19. Dangal (Hindi) 20. Masaan (Hindi) 21. Asuran (Tamil) 22. Trapped (Hindi) 23. Malik (Malayalam) 24. Iratta (Malayalam) 25. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (Side A & B) (Kannada) 26. Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (Kannada) 27. Evaru (Telugu) 28. Pushpa: the rise (Telugu) 29. Jersey (Telugu) 30. Vikram Vedha (2017) (Tamil) There is a remake by the same name released in 2022, don't watch that. As of now I can think of these only. I'm pretty sure it will suffice in order to understand the Indian cinema as the list covers almost every genre. The movies mentioned above are from different industries of Indian Cinema in different languages e.g. Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam (and of course 'Bollywood' i.e. in Hindi language). Edit: If possible, watch these in their original language rather than dubbed in other Indian languages. For your convenience, I have mentioned the original language. Enjoy.
@@jake8473 i speak telugu (the language RRR was originally made in) and i would suggest you to watch 'eega', made by the same director. you wouldn't have watched something like that before.
Some facts about the movie... **It is the most expensive INDIAN MOVIE EVER MADE at 72 million dollars. **It was the first Indian movie that was shot on Arri Alexa Lf camera (most expensive camera used by Hollywood directors..Cost 120,000 to 150,000 dollars) with the widest Signature prime lens possible in native 6k quality. **That's why it has resolution of IMAX.** **Shooting took 320 days. **It made record on Netflix for being the only non english movie that was on top trending list for 16 consecutive weeks in 62 countries. If this shook you... ((Then try SARDAR UDHAM, man, you'll experience new dimension of Indian Cinema. *Something you've never witnessed before in any movie.*)) Stay away from spoilers.
It’s always interesting to hear about the first foreign film of a culture that really opened you up to their movies. My first real experience with Korean films was the The Good, The Bad, and The Weird. It was the 3rd Asian western picture that was put out and it really shocked me with just how much stunt work their lead acts did. I was also intrigued by the Korean movie concept that the past always influences the present. (Your positive or negative actions will always return to you in unexpected ways.) If you two haven’t watched this movie yet, then I would highly recommend it (be it for the channel or personal consumption).
Really enjoyed the review.. Also, can suggest suggest to review an Indian film old/new alternate week if possible as we can get 2 perspectives of someone who has grown with indian cinema vs someone who hasn't
Thise cultural religious elements in the movie are not propaganda... critics couldn't understand or digest how positively they are imbeded into the characters.... like example... ram s clothing at the end resembled as God rama s look.. so all thought they showing their propaganda.... but they didn't have deep knowledge of that person in real life.... cause in real life sitaramaraju, ram s charecter when started rebelli g against British he was in that attire in real life his dress resembled a tribal huntsman and a sage cause in real he was..the same look u can search on internet how he was

"your positive or negative actions will always return to you" this is an Indian concept called Karma. Ancient India influenced Kore heavily.
