How The Big Lebowski made us dudes - Nice Dude Movie Podcast
In my mind, Truman kind of went from 'The Truman Show' to 'EdTV' in the end.
I remember once on your show, you guys mentioned how disappointing it is when you show someone a movie you love and they start checking their phone or talking about their day and it dawns on you that the film you were SO excited for them to watch means absolutely nothing to them! This happened to me with this film. My friend showed me this movie. When the food arrived, he paused the movie and I yelled out "IT"S ONLY HALF WAY THROUGH???" He was so sad, like I ran over his pet! I don't like this movie at all, but that doesn't matter. I like your podcast, and listening to your perspectives can give me insights on what can be learned from the movie that I missed.
Awesome show, thanks so much for reading out my comment.
Thanks for writing in!
*correction* Hi, it's Altaf. I misquoted Michelle Yeoh on her wanting her grandchildren to see this. She does not have kids. Sorry about that!
she has step kids :)
Joy gets halfway there, which is “nothing matters”. But Evelyn gets the rest of the way, which is “if nothing matters, then everything matters equally. The good can’t negate the bad that’s happened. But no amount of bad can snuff out the good.”
Thanks so much for this really insightful, enlightening episode. And thank you for the lovely, respectful reading you gave my email (I'm the one identified as "Jon").
Thank you for writing in!
Embarrassed to say I haven't watched this movie yet 😬
It's on Max! Hurry and watch it!!
This has to be one of the best films ever seriously!
I wouldn't doubt that at all!
So happy that this episode exists! I remember being absolutely shook when the movie was over. Such a brilliant ensemble cast 👏🏽
Same here! Thanks so much 😁
Incredibles had no effect on me whatsoever, I hated the movie as a kid. Iron Giant on the other hand…
"Supermodels. Heh! Nothing super about them... spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves. Feh! I used to design for Gods! " She had the best lines in the movie.

Omg!!! That's what I sent!! Hiii👋

Hi

LOL, the opening made me confused regarding what movie you guys were actually talking about.
Dont worry, i can see Altaf as water with the beard xD another great movie and great episode. I really appreciated how vulnerable bob gets at the end which i gravitated towards. The family thing was something i was used to having seen The goofy movie which was one of my favorite movie growing up. I dont know but i always appreciate vulnerable scenes in movies like pikachu crying over Ash turning i to stone. I guess i am a sensitive soul that has been hardened but love seeing my inner self displayed on screen and applauded. As always, stay nice dudes!
Sooooo you gave up on making Altaf water eh?
Chris had some health issues during the editing process 😭
@@MoviesThatChangedUs Ok that's fine .... I guess
almighty algorithm sacrifice
I adored the retro-futurism vibe that Incredibles used. Really pulled me into the world.
It's super unique and timeless!
Hey guys like the first 3 movies from the 70's that build this fantasy about han solo being a badass. Not really showing he is just he knows how to fly HIS ship he knows how to put head phones on and he's committed to the bit makes him the biggest badass in history /jizz everywhere. Starwars is lame. Han shot first, you people are fucking losers. Starwars has been a shit IP and needs to go away maybe then we could actually see inventive media.
So you don't want to hear something that's true?😂
Ugh I just hate what Star Wars became when Disney bought it. Should have stayed out of it and left it with Lucas.
I whole heartedly agree about your views on Toy Story. It was one of the first movies I saw as a kid and my God, I still keep going back to watch it and have a goofy smile too! Still have it on VHS! But seriously, it is an amazing movie with a simple plot and simplicity is great! I think the most magical moment in any Pixar movie was Woody and Buzz flying with style. It still makes my heart quiver seeing Buzz defy all odds. Its just a great movie that can be watched over and over again.
There were some real missed opportunities for genuine creepy scares in the movies. The Patrick Hockstetter character alone has a few moments in the book that would've been great to see on film. He is a true psychopath who murdered his infant brother when he was young. He is also a sexual predator. I can't believe they cut is death scene in the book (involving a refrigerator) down to some generic zombie jump scare in the sewers. All in all, they could've gone a lot darker in tone and straight up scarier with the film than they ended up doing.
Maybe Harrison Ford always been the top Star Wars hater, but he’s had to work to wrestle that reputation away from Alec Guinness.
I don't know, that interaction Guinness had with a young fan, exchanging his autograph for the promise that the fan would not watch Star Wars again, it really kinda takes the cake. I think Harrison Ford more sarcastically hates on Star Wars, thinking the premise was silly or that the production on the original films was a bit shoddy, but also understanding and appreciating the big effect the movies have had on the cast's careers and the industry as a whole.
You need to add Indy’s whip curling around the blaster.
I saw this movie in the theater in 1977 when I was 7 years old. When the movie started and I saw IV A New Hope I had just learned Roman numerals in school so I asked my father right then did we miss the first three?
Yooo please react to Jackie Chan's (Police Story 3 : Supercop) 🙏🏽 its one of my favorite movies the plot is 👌🏽 and exactly what you want from Jackie Chan .. And believe me he does deliver in the Police Story movies , at least the first three 😉👌🏽

I was introduced to star wars on TV, and I saw them and was immediately hooked. Sorry to say but I'm not that big a fan of Han Solo, i went hard into Luke, Obi-Wan and the force. Yoda being one of my all time favorite characters. I think Hans attitude of mocking hit to much home with how I was treated with my own hobbies and being bullied. I also played the games, read the book version of the prequel movies. Devoted 10 years to playing star wars the old republic. Star wars is always entwined in everything I do and taught me so much. I am biased but I do want you to do the rest of the movies and also the infamous prequels since you were there when they come and hate they got with the now beloved cult status they have. I would love to hear your movie expertise in those movies, what worked what didn't and why people had such a visceral reaction to them. Loved this episode and it's always a treat listening to you guys.
To elaborate on why the sequels which I forgot. I love the sequels and the tragedy of anakins fall with revenge of the sith being my favorite star wars movie.
I was about five or six years old when Stars Wars was released in theatres - I'd see the full-page ads for it in the movie-section of the newspaper every weekend... It was SUCH a phenomenon. Sadly, I wasn't allowed to go see it until a bit later into its initial run in theatres - so I was probably around seven years old (Yes, this was back when movies would be in movie theatres for a YEAR or more). I was already a big sci-fi nerd ... obsessed over all things space-ships and aliens and astronauts... Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, etc. Star Trek was in re-runs on TV and I watched *EVERYTHING* with even a vague sci-fi/space-opera theme to it. (Space: 1999... anyone? anyone?) ... but ... Oh My Gawd ... Star Wars. STAR WARS (back before it was re-titled "A New Hope") ... this was THE space story. It became EVERYTHING to me (and only added to my obsession with space-/sci-fi stuff) We all wanted to be the hero in this film ... we fell in love with Princess Leia, we all wanted a beautiful, tough as nails gal who could stand by your side and kiss you before you swung across that chasm in the Death Star ... we all wanted to fly that fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy ... every stick became a light-sabre ... every gun became a blaster ... it completely overshadowed all other sci-fi. I became obsessed with the music of John Williams and instantly recognize his music in just about every movie he's ever done. I re-watched it as much as I could ... my older brother got a copy it on videotape and we wore that out (I believe it was a BetaMax cassette) and it has always been one of the first films that I've purchased for every type of home-media I've upgraded to... (had it on VHS ... owned the re-mastered editions... the Letterboxed editions... later, the enhanced special effects editions... on DVD... on BluRay... and even re-purchased the DVD copies because they included the original non-enhanced version in the special features of the disks) God, I'm old now. (Will save y'all the math ... I turn 54 this year) ... and yes, I paid for a theatre ticket to go sit in a cinema and watch the trailer for the Phantom Menace (my friends and I ended up staying and watching "Wing Commander" -- UGH!). I still hold this film franchise in high regard ... I have Star Wars related toys and props all over my home now. I cried and mourn with the passing of each cast member.
The first time I watched New Hope, I was 6, watching the his movie on a VHS recording from the US network. Still one of my favorite movies ever. Thanks for this episode buds ❤❤❤
I was three when Star Wars came out so I didn't see it in the Theaters. My first experience with this universe was actually the Star Wars Christmas Special. I barely remember it, but I recall the Boba Fett animation and the conversations occurring between the Wookies. When Star Wars finally made it to HBO a year or two later I got to see it and I remember it vividly. It was an important moment for me personally.
Great episode guys. This is my favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. And we need its message now more than ever I think. We can't lose sight of ourselves and movies like Star Wars help us remember the things that are important. And shows us what fighting for good looks like even in a distant galaxy. Phenomenal filmmaking too. George is amazing.
HARD maybe on sequels 😂 couldn’t agree more 😂❤❤❤
Holy crap, this is the one I’ve been waiting for forever. This is my favorite film of all time, I'm so glad you guys are covering it.
A more serious comment? I've been into the paranormal/UFOs since the 1970s. I've genuinely lost track of what this phenomenon may be. So many changing theories. Far-future us, getting DNA and consciousness samples. Reflections of our Jungian shadow, or higher aspirations. Collective delusion. Actual aliens. Co-habitants in hiding. Alternate dimensional visitors. And they're the easy explanations. It is the ultimate muddy-field of 'facts', and so, so much myth, legend, lore and deliberate misinformation. My 2024 take? I'm done trying to attribute meaning to this modern, mystical/religious experience. Just accept people have it. Accept that we do not have answers. Adjust your view on life to move beyond the physical, materialist universe paradigm. But listen to the themes of all this. We need to learn within our means. Unlimited consumption will lead to human extinction within 150-200 years. Stop giving into hate. Do not let fear rule your life or your decision making. Stop giving into your darker, more negative impulses. Accept that reality is a larger sum than the parts you see, and claim to understand. The soapbox? Is now yours.
Also? UFO Chronicles podcast is great for experiencers - from witnesses to abductees and beyond. Sure, some of it sounds mad. But it's as close as you can get to a 'primary source' for such experiences. Avoid the manufactured product, as in those dreadful Netflix/Sci-fi/History channel programs. And quick plug for Strange Familiars, and the Scooby Kids (Greg and Dana Newkirk), among many others.
NHI thanks you. Stop smoking inside your car. No atomics. Stop murdering each other. Space club awaits.
Space Club = Federation et al. But you're smart, you didn't need that explained.
