Thanks for watching and supporting! :)
Thank you for watching everyone! Let me know if you enjoyed this kind of "Bronze to Grandmaster" series :)
Of course as we go up in leagues the content will get more and more complex and will also be more focused on game play!
I've seriously needed this man. Thanks so much. I haven't played since the end of WoL and the old guides that helped me back then are dated and useless for Legacy.
I haven't watched the entire video yet, so I'll edit this if you go into it, but you should go into certain hot key changes, example; the default base camera key is backspace, Lowko suggested it be changed to spacebar and that helped my game play sooooo fucking much. Just being able to easily jump back to my bases.
@@petercarioscia9189 Like I said in the video, I won't talk about camera hotkeys in Bronze video :D it doesn't make much sense
@36:00 thats not mean, that's sound advice. I would watch HalbyStarcrafts guide when I played during WoL and his entire guide was essentially a macro exercise where you built NOTHING but CC/scv, depots, Barracks/marines. It was very mechanical and just got you into the rhythm of basic basic macro. It was VERY helpful.
@@BeastyqtSC2 gotcha, ok. I eagerly await the silver+ videos :-) thanks so much
Sure this was a year ago and all but holy crap thank you so much, when searching for beginner guides ALL i would get is build orders. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Been a long time Starcraft player from back when the original was released. Due to prolonged periods of time being stuck at home I've been taking the 1v1s more seriously. I really appreciate the information you provide in this video and the other videos, that I'm looking forward to watching. Like you pointed out, I made the mistake of trying to emulate many of the things professionals do, such as microing armies, following a perfect build order, scouting, harassing mineral lines, etc... all to pretty limited, if any, success. I finally realized that I was trying to compete as an Olympic swimmer when all I know how to do is doggy paddle. So now I'm going to step back and follow your advice to learn things step by step, instead of trying to do a dozen things all at once. Though I am going to cheat a little bit. I play Terran, and I totally understand your advice to initially stick to just Marines and Marauders, but hopefully you won't mind if I sneak in a few Medivacs!
And just my two cents, but I found I prefer having the health bars of only damaged units showing. Not that it really makes a difference, but having all health bars is more information than I really want.
Personally, defending vs cheese was a big part in the lower leagues, might be something to bring up in the silver video.
cannon rush / dts / 4gate zealot rush / 12-pool / roach rush / bane bust / reaper rush / mass banshee / tank push / even a startling proxy cc floating into the main and becoming a planetary once.
Also I never knew that protoss players should pull workers from gas instead of minerals, thanks for teaching everyone something. :D
Someone knows the silver shenanigans. X)) I had to build a tank versus the sneaky CC turned PF to get rid of it.
Cheese and all-ins are always a big part in every league. The higher you go, the sharper and better the cheeses would be.
Maybe not bronze though. Maybe not bronze.
I agree fully, Im low silver league and half my wins are just from defending an all in cheese because in the lower leagues there is rarely a follow up when it fails
Veri naiz! I'm really excited for the gold + video's especially! I also feel like the guide could benefit from some on-screen text when you list off (specific) steps. Like:
- SCV till 18 on minerals
- 3 in each gas
- stay on 1 base
- build 3 rax
- make marines & marauders
- get some upgrades maybe
- attack opponent at ~6 mins.
This will of course become more important when/if you list off specific build orders, so maybe it was already on your radar :)
Keep it up!
Beasty, you are my hero! I'm silver right now, and i'm advancing throught it, learning a lot of stuff, trying to learn from replays etc etc etc, but oh boy, how much a video like this would have help me during the first days when I was bronze, specially on the overwhelming psychological side of the game. This is so basic and important, specially the last part of the video when you insist on try to get out of bronze with just tier 1 units. Thank you for this, this kind of things REALLY help people to manage the game in a waaaay more healthier approach
"Show unit life bars" setting is way better on "Damaged" mode I think. I started from bronze with it. If you don't see a bar - unit full. Nothing confusing about that and you have way less screen clutter for them larger fights compared to keeping it on "Always".
^this
"Always" mana for Templar though.
That’s exactly what I was thinking
As someone who knows very little about the game, yet managed to reach Platinum 5 seasons in a row with just a 4 gate zealot rush I find these videos incredibly helpful and resourceful.
i watch SC2 a lot so i have the knowledge but when i try the game i have no idea how to control the game :D
Controlling the game is a matter of creating the right habits. If you want to improve you should play custom melee games against the A.I. to practice the basics or maybe some build orders and scouting. You don't even have to finish the entire game, just play the first 5 to 7 minutes up until a timing attack and then concede. Your play should become more polished within just a few hours and you'll be Plat/Diamond in no time.
Do you use camera locations and control groups? If you don't that could help you
coaches dont play
Just make sure your potato is peeled nicely, with no nasty spots, and just keep building SCVs man.
@@nzdefrag Wait what? where did the potato come from, this instruction is not clear.
What a great video. Thank you Beasty. I played starcraft from Sc1 - to Sc2 wings of liberty. Have been off for 10 years and trying to get back into it and landed in bronze. Your video today showed me I don’t need to overcomplicate myself if i am not getting the basic stuff right. Will grind the basics. Peace!
Yes! This is something i have been waiting for! Love you beasty! I started playing again after 6 years because of you and went 5-0 in placements yesterday.
16:40 < if you wanna skip the settings part
Thx man
Came back to game after ~6 year break and I found loads of folks 1 basing. Now I know why ;) currently silver/gold EU zerg here, former plat terran. Thanks for the content, can't wait to see next episodes.
I am brand new to the star craft world and previously found that I needed so much knowledge just to follow "beginner" tutorials. I read tons of info over the last week and downloaded multiple strategy guides that helped but this video was uniquely adapted toward the actual beginner. Thank you for making things make sense and for the advice. See you again when I reach silver.
This is great! Thank you for all your hints. There's a lot of folks who don't like "helping people up" like this. Good man. I really love SC2 but I still find it very difficult. The only thing that I didn't hear was a mention of 'hold position' for your blocking Zealot sitting in the wall gap.
I’m starting to learn SC2 and this was pretty helpful I think. I realize I shouldn’t try to over complicate the game when I don’t know basically anything Q_Q

Excellent tutorial. I started playing SC2 a few months ago. I'm very good at strategy board games, but I don't have fast reflexes, and I'd been languishing at Bronze 1 all this time gradually getting more frustrated. Within less than a week after watching this video I made it up to Silver. I had actually tried his suggested technique originally (build only barracks, focus on fundamentals), but without knowing the advice to build 3 barracks and push out around 6 minutes, it wasn't very successful. Doing pretty much the same build each time, I found my fundamentals improving, and I can time it so that my upgrades come out before I'm about to attack. I also learned a bit about effective use of offensive scanner sweeps, and the appropriate use of marines vs marauders, saw how the success of my attack varied depending on my opponent's build, and got a feel for which of my opponent's units/buildings to take out first. Even against builds that would be fairly strong against MM, I often won just by outproducing the opponent. Next I'm going to watch the silver tutorial.
Me playing in 2017: Master League
Me playing in 2020: Bronze League
That 3 year break didn't do me good x)
Gonna get back in and your videos are a big help!
how is that even possible
@@e47kz Haven't played any form of RTS game in those 3 years, maybe a small game of hearts of iron, but not really any other. Have become absolute dogshite at RTS games x)
@BeastyqtSC2, Here how it defines tires: it calls on number of buildings/researches you require to build a unit (after base attacking units structure: barrack, gateway, spawnpool).
So for terran: barraks, factory - tire1;
factory addon. armory - tire2, 2 buildings
fleetbeacon, science lab - 3 building, tire 3
Zerg: Mutation of hatchary + upgrade on lukers - tire 2
etc, etc.
P.S. Thanks for videos
Thanks for the video, very useful. Please keep in mind that now days even in bronze league, players are rushing their opponents way too much, therefore the simple build order and killing the opponent isn't as simple as it might sound. I got CC rushed by terrans sooo many times :( . It needs to be kept in mind. Cheers!
I'm getting back into the game after a lot of time off and I found your video very helpful and well-produced. Great work.
I love you bud. I've been binging your silly strats to gm series and just discovered these guides. Time to get back into pvp! Thanks for both entertaining and informative content.
Hi! I've just started playing SC2. I played Broodwar Terran years ago and excited to learn SC2. I'm noob and learning alot from this series. THANK YOU FOR THIS! I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK!!!
This 11 min mark on the last build test is so generous. I started with 7:52 and got it down to 5:51. Very good practice.
This guy is a boody legend. Yo thanks for this btw. Literally i just got the game with me and my friends like a few days ago and like we were so clueless on what to do. Every unranked ive played ive lost and AI i can barely reach Hard even after dumpstering medium. I checked this video out hoping it would give me some tips for an unranked player like me which did SO MUCH and thank God. Can you please make a video on the best ways of learning fast even it is just learning basics then advancing but im talking about like having routines, playing with friends and such. Thanks ik you probs wont read this comment but if you do ill be checkign your vids out. New sub c:
I'm new to sc2 and I have to admit that your guides are the best for new players. Your guides are totally innovative and inclusive and this makes them unique among other sc2 utubers . Much love, hope you success in your Esport career.
today is my first day playing this game. lets go!
I thought I'd go back to basics having not played for a year - A nice simple take on what to do. Thank you
I watch starcraft and used to play some aoe2, so i wanted to try it out, i watched this video, jumped into ranked and got gold on my first day of touching this game myself :D
I'm really excited to actually learn the game now, cause so far i did 3 racks every game and when it got scouted i just lost
ive been hovering between diamond and plat.... i cant tell you how helpful that was. so glad i found you
Love your videos. Very honest and professional coaching. Like how u discussed the settings and tiers
i just beat a 3440 mmr player literally following this guide. with zealots and stalkers, the only thing i did that was told not to do was expand, its just even since campaign I've built habits of expanding when i`m just overloaded with workers lol thanks for this!
@11:10 That option allows your in-game screen automatically pop up again if you are doing other works from desktop. For example, loading a match while alt + tab and checking Facebook feeds.
Something you could have mentioned is campaign and Co op. I think they are en easy and fun way to both learn the basics and get used to mechanics. Also, watching some esports and stream a bit is a great way to get knowledge, I think. Personally, I watched so many videos and played so many Co op missions that when I got into ladder for the first time, I placed gold directly.
Anyway, thank you for the great content and sorry for my "meh" english, I can't wait for the diamond episode :-D
tnx, im a diamond league zerg and i thought i skipped some basics and it made the game harder for me and this video helped.
Dude, you're a legend for these tutorial vids. I haven't even played 1 game of SC2 yet, but I've been learning the theory and watching vids and feel a little bit more ready to start... After I do lots of vs ai first though... !
same here!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series! I like the format a lot; people talking about whatever comes up while they're playing usually feels very fragmented. This is a lot more concrete, and I hope it will turn out well.
old but gold... will be following this and try to play the game!
Great video, thank you very much!
I loved SC since the first one, however never got into playing competitive much - the high bar of entry and massive pressure always scared me.
Played Abit at SC2 launch and made it almost to Gold, but then got confused with too much info and "advanced" suggestions - build orders, comps, counters, etc.
Finally found some basic guide that is honestly says - play it simple and easy!
Hope that with the new "free to play" stuff there will be more noob players like me to have interesting, even games!
Awesome video Beasty! Im a platinum random player and i learned a lot from a bronze video (specially that air -> ground thing... i knew it existed but didnt know where it was) i'm very excited for the next videos
Super helpful! Wish these videos came out sooner. Would have save me years of pain to climb the ladders :)
Beasty: revan is tier 3, you dont build a lot of those.
Also Beasty: *do mass Revan to GM
Most helpful starcraft 2 guide out there, make sure to like the vid!
Haven't played since the zerg expansion. I am gonna get back on it using your videos and see how far I get. I appreciate this videos
The adventure from spectator to gamer begins! Thanks beasty.
This kind of content is uncommon. Well done
Thanks ! I got out of bronze within 2 days, and I followed your rules for Terran at face value.
Loving it. Looking forward to the rest of the leagues
A challenge for bronze zerg players:
1 - You are only allowed to look at your base/natural and the minimap (until you destroy the opponent's main starting base)
2 - The only units allowed to exit your base/natural are hydras with move/A-move ON THE MINIMAP (until you destroy the opponent's main starting base)
Try focus - drones - overlords - injects - repeat constantly - get hydras - get natural - upgrade and mass hydras and destroy your opponent
See how fast you'll get out of bronze :D you'll probably be able to get to gold or even plat doing this
What exactly is the thought process behind this? It doesn't really make sense to me (I'm a starting player). So some explanation would be appreciated!
@@timbentvelzen9344 Sounds like macro practice. If you can win by solely outmacroing and overwhelming your opponent, you'll have that much more to work with when you work on micro. It's obviously not the best way to try to win, though.
thank u old but gold video will really try to play starcraft seriously
This game is so awesome. There is tons of tactics you can make
This series will for sure be great! Im in gold 1 with zerg and i cant wait for the next episode!
Even though this is for starcraft 2, a lot of this is also applicable to bw in a lot of ways.
Basically, don't overcomplicate things, and have fun with it
Thanks very much! I never played online with Zerg in my life and today I tried to do the 5 games for placement with your tips from this videos and I was placed in Silver. I also never played with Protoss so tomorrow I'll try getting into Silver league with both Terran and Protoss. Please do a video with tips on how to move from Silver to Gold.
I´m real interestet in how this will go on. Love it that you realy started at the bottom. Even as gold-player i could imrpove just of thinking of the setting fakt. Out of my wxp i agree with you. I got better at the point where i thought, leav the late-game for the pros and just trie some cheese rush builds, to learn timing before massing. A littel bit different in the way, but same thougt behinde it. Good way to make a guide, nice one!
Nice format ! Looking forward to listening to the next one
WTF I reached Diamond without knowing the Enable Enemy Unit Selection well we learn new things everyday hahaha
This video is so good. I learned so much! Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed it and i am immediatelly trying it out.
What a great idea and good job ! Thanks Beasty !
First game I played as Terran I got my second base had a second barracks coming online and a zergling flood toasted me. Lesson learned. Use those minerals on units, the second base doesn't matter until later.
always always prepare at least 4 hellion (factory switch reactor builded in first barrack)
@@pangjames646 For a bronze player, that kind of switch is unnecesary as Beasty said, just wall off and prepare some bunkers to put your marines in
using just marines and reapers seems to have stopped working since many of the players in bronze seem to tech up with tanks asap or straight -to-air from protoss
I have never played SCI or SCII so, I want to finally give them a go!
Have fun ! I haven't played in a while and I want to come back^^
the settings realy helped me! Thanks, w8ing for more vids from Bronbze to grandmaster Guide!
I've learnt alott from this. Thanks a lot bro
I have life bars only show for damaged units. It helps me.enjoy the graphics of the game without being cluttered with useless 100% life bars, I feel like I only need to know if their health is under 100%... personal preference I guess
yea i find the same..
I used to use this option too for the same reason. But the Energy bars were not shown as the units were not demaged and the Energy reaches 💯% they vanish. So I had to changed it to ALWAYS settings because of that. If I see some energy bar floating among the units I know a spell caster is ready to use their spells. For example, if I have High Templars with 💯% health and energy mixed with other units like stalkers, that's fatal for a Terran who uses the settings ONLY DEMAGED because the Terran won't be able to see the Energy Bars being shown, they won't know if storm is ready or not, they still would have to click on them and check one by one just to see if that's at least 75 energy there... Etc. Untill that, the Terran lost all the marines already and lost the game.
@ meh true. Control groups kinda settles that issue for me
A quick primer on social elements would be interesting. E.g., how you deal with BM, ladder anxiety, and so on.
Lulz... I definitely did NOT have 'Enable Enemy Unit Selection' selected. I always wondered why I couldn't click to see things... Gold here I come!
Gracias! Tus consejos son justo lo que necesitaba. Voy a enfocarme en lo básico, así no termino abrumado (y)
Thanks for a simple video. I'm excited to play.
So I decided to get in to Star Craft. It always scared me, because it looks so complicated, but this video kind of hyped me up to start playing. The thing is, I don't realy want to give money to Blizzard :D, but in order to get to some ranked I have to play 10 days, 1 unranked game per day (which is not that big of a deal). The thing is in my very first game I got demolished by a Plat player. Does this mean that I have to get my ass handed to me 10 days, and only after that I will be able to play against ppl on my lvl?
P.S. Sorry if the comment sounds kind of winny :D
P.S.S. Really liked the video
You can just play against the AI for 10 days
This is one of those games you’re gonna get ass blasted a lot until you get better :)
Beasty, I wonder how you reassign workers back to mining very quick? I understand, all to one gas, then -3, to second gas, - 3, the rest to minerals. But I don't see you click on the group in order to exclude 3 workers from selection, what hot keys you are using for fast exclusion?
When you say -3 to gas, are you meaning select 3 and move to gas, or select 6 and move to gas and then shift left click down to 3 and move the remaining 3 to the other gas? Thats the method most people use. Can you give an example of where he does this?
@@johnrusty2298 yes(6, -3, 3) and he does it all the time. Actually my question above is irrelevant, there is no way to exclude units from selection other than shift click on the selection window down in the middle. It's simply difficult to see fast moving cursor in youtube video.
Only thing I would add is to always build workers until you have atleast 2 bases saturated... Bronze players never have workers and always go behind bcuz of that... Building workers helped my friend from bronze to platinum in a week
Awesome video mate! Thanks for the tips :)
Can‘t believe that i watched a 45minute tutorial! I started playing starcraft 2 couple years ago and watched straight up building orders etc. and got very frustated because like you said i skipped to many steps and ended up loosing and don‘t understanding the core mechanics
Solid advice. Thanks yo!
this is going to be a good series!
i can agree. played world of warcraft super high rated and prefered to have everything on low so i dont get overwhelmed with useles details causing me to fatigue faster.
Edit: Dont bother about low settings if your not aiming for high GM.
Sorry if you said it in the video, i didn't watch it completely, but what is the upload schedule for this? and also will this be climbing, so youre going bronze then silver then gold and so on or just randomly?
It will be in the league order, so Bronze > Silver > Gold etc :)
Don't have the upload schedule for the rest atm.
Im 'plat' (silver with a win streak and a bit of game knowledge but no fucking mechanics) and I learned a few things today even after a year and a half of beasty streams nearly every day
Very happy with this
I can't wait until the diamond episode is available .
I just keep losing as terran. Losing to siege tanks, losing to mass zergligs, losing to stalker-immortals. After destroying a protoss or zerg force, another one just comes out of nowhere. I am able to amass around 30 marines and 25-30 marauders to minute 6 with a weaapon upgrade and all lab upgrade. But then they almost always die.
Maybe you should build siege tanks :P
Thanks Beasty very nice video!
thanks for the info, really feels like its gonna help me out
Great vid, thanks
awesome video, thx! Volume could be higher though
Biased to us unranked players I see. I enjoy your content and thanks for the free coaching series.
hey beasty, I'm bronze 3 with random race, so far I had 2 wins and 8 losses while following your advice. I constantly run into people who hardcore bunker (like a wall of 5+ cannons or spine crawlers + army behind it) their main base or natural, so I have no chance to get through without loosing most of my army when only using tier 1 units. then they just tech into stronger units and I lose the game from there. Either that or I get rekt by a cannon rush. What do I do in these situations?
If someone spends so much on static defence you need to expand to have more bases than him and outmacro him. Don't attack his static defences at all.
@@OKMX5 well I pretty much know about that I was just following beastys advice here to not expand and focus on tier 1 units, build up an army and attack around 5-6 minutes.
Right now I'm in the lower tier if diamond and I hit this toss wall. Was playing a guy that I killed all probes i. Natural stopped them from expanding to 3rd had 5 bases of my own and still some how lost. They just massed immortals zeals and a few stalkers.... and I had a max army... no libs. Shame on me.. but yeah I realized my mistake. But i say that to say that toss can be behind all game make a million mistakes you make one as terran albeit a big one no libs and that's it.. also they just billed shield generators and I could bust through
welcom to Starcraft 2!
that's the same reason Beasty stopped playing Terran too
Put this on 1.5x it sounds better
Thanks for this interesting video.
OMG thx a lot hope we are soon on the diamond to master
Great video.
As a Protoss, I usually just leave an idle worker and always build with it. Is it wrong? Would it actually make a significant difference?
If you are under silver, not a big deal - but it is something you want to fix in the future :) 1 worker mineral income in the long run is a big deal!
I am very late to the party but have played Broodwar a lot (1600h+ in the past 2003-2005 PGT,WGT,BWCL and all the ladders) now i want to play some relaxed casual SC2 and watched this video to get into... at 20 Minute you say Units warp in at different speed `??? i am not sure what you say is what you intend to say ? Do Units really warp in in less seconds when a Nexus or Gateway is near a pylon ? Or did you mean they are available for defence faster when warped at important spots (less way to travel after warp ?) EDIT: google actually agrees with you ;) Warp gates and Nexus do speed up Unit warp in by 1.4 seconds. That sounds kinda strange to a broodwar player ;)
Do they still have custom games? I used to play back in the day but thinking about downloading again this weekedn.
Lerker defense type stuff? Might have been starcraft 1 lol
yeah custom games are still a thing
sir plz turn ur mic volume alot higher plz
very informative video and keep on going dude!
thanks for the vid. cant even believe i had the option where i couldnt select enemy units on lol. glad i know now though. one quick question, i use grid as my layout, but when i watch pro players play, it seems like they have more available options on their grid? maybe its just bc they are switching their control groups so fast, or maybe its because protoss has less keybindings available (on a drone, for example) than say, a zerg? im new and only played protoss so far so it could be possible that other races just have more available options for their drones, and maybe other units
I'm not 100% sure if i understand exactly what you mean but in the options there is "enable simple command card" at the same spot with the enemy selection things, if you have that off it is a littel bit more but it does not really make a difference but maybe that's what you emant
@@kommentar1160 i will check it out, ty
he talked about that in this vid, maybe he will release something more towards what im meaning in the next vid. if not ill figure it out my own way somehow. practice makes perfect lol
Good stuff!
It was extremely useful although i am a gold/platin player.. thanks a lot. i am waiting for thy others :)
