    Haven’t played in over 15 years and wow are people good! Very intimidating to play for beginners I can see and someone just getting back in. Every game in the end when you lose opponents will criticize you and say you suck, learn to play, you aren’t very good, and just the meanest things. But there is hope out there. Been nice to run into the few who say GLHF! It’s all fun for me and used to be my favorite game. Glad I’m getting back into it. Getting better each game!

    It's interesting coming into StarCraft 2 as a seasoned Dota 2 player. I am pretty good at microing units (I use Grid Hotkeys because they map out closer to Dota 2 style hotkeys) so skirmishing with medivacs, stalkers, adepts etc comes totally naturally but macro is a huge pain in the ass. I'm so used to only having to focus on microing one or a handful of units and not having to worry about economy

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  3 года назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience! My feeling is that Dota's focus on one aspect of the RTS gameplay format is the reason why people enjoy the genre so much. IMO that also means that to really enjoy an RTS you have to kind of lean into that "extra stuff" i.e. the macro elements, and find ways to enjoy it.
      Btw, cool username, I'm gonna steal that for a location in some D&D campaign. 😂

    Started the game a month ago, 13 years after I wanted to. Your speech is precise, I like it.
    Impressions of the game : it's so good. It feels good, it looks good, it does not seem old at all. It's so hard. The macro is so unforgiving. I used to play Warcraft 3 18 years ago. The rate of macro actions you need to do in SC2 feels like 4 times more. And I sucked at it in WC3. Aand to the point of sometimes it feels like work, in a way, haha.
    Also to me SC2 is more entertaining to learn than chess for example. Actually, it's addictive.

    Great vid btw kept it up!

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  3 года назад +2

      Thank you! So, basically every mineral patch can only have one worker mining from it at the same time (MULEs are an exception to this). That means that if your probe spams right-click on an enemy mineral patch at the right time, it will slightly interrupt your opponent's mineral gathering. Also, if you actually manage to mine a mineral, you'll remove 5 minerals from the mineral patch, which your opponent won't have later in the game.
      This kind of harass is EXTREMELY minor so it won't really matter at all except at the very highest level of play (unless your opponent overreacts in their response and messes something up). :)

    nice video but yeah timing attack, harasment are also a thing in Red Alert 3. however in Red Alert 3 you have easier time to harass
    uhm... I'm more into WC3 Undead player which I don't usually expand my base cause as Undead that race is hard to expand but it's OK that's exactly what I wanted... I'm having some hard time to control multiple bases anyway it's quite overwhelmed
    in WC3 I can harass easier than in SC2 because as Undead I often rely on my heroes to dish out damage
    in WC3 I often banked up my gold and lumber cause I wanna save those gold for buying more item from shops OR I need those gold and lumber to rebuild my army
    in WC3... they prioritize MICRO than Macro,
    uhm... the cloest style of that fast expand it would probably Human thhey expand like Terran
    can you make a video about transition from WC3 to SC2 ?

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  3 года назад +1

      I loved that about WC3, how you could basically "start the game" as soon as you had a hero. Creeping, harassing, etc. In SC2 usually it takes a bit longer to get going offensively.
      I think a video about transitioning from WC3 to SC2 sounds really interesting, and I'll definitely consider it, but to be honest it's been such a long time since I played WC3 or watched pro games that I would have to do a lot of research before trying to make that video. 😂

    • @ArthasHastingsMenethil
      @ArthasHastingsMenethil 3 года назад +1

      @@Altercate yeah I'm looking forward to seeing that video
      uhm... so far from my experience I'm not a pro so my experience might not be as valuable as other pros though so uhm.. my own personal experience might get dismiss or overlook a lots I'm Protoss+Undead player
      but well I'll list my idea about transitions
      1. find your own main race
      so far this is my transtion about race to race
      Zerg = Undead + Night Elf but more into Night Elf cause the units
      Terran = Orcs + Human but more into Human
      Protoss = Undead + Night Elf + Orcs but the playstyle I felt more like Undead cause...
      Shades = Observer
      Ghoul = Zealots but cheaper price...
      Statue = Sentry
      Fiends = Stalker + Immortal combine
      Destroyer = uhm... this is tought guess High Templar + Tempest + Void Ray + Archon ? + Mothership
      Frost Wymn = Tempest + mothership + Carrierr
      Abomination = Immortal + Archon + Zealots
      Meat Wagon = Colossus
      Gargoyle = Phoenix + Void Ray + Scout(SC1)
      Banshee = uhm.. Adept but with Battery Shield ?
      Dreadlord = Zealots + High Templar + Oracle + Mothership ?
      Death Knight = Zealots + Battery Shield + Sentry + Mothership
      Lich = High Templar
      Crypt Lord = Immortal + colossus + Zealot
      NOTED: I'm not sure about Zerg and Terran so I didn't really list them as detailed as Undead = Protoss
      2. you could mention about the pacing of BOTH game like the game time, APM, Building Build time,...etc
      3. Micro(guess I'll leave it to you) but Micro in WC3 is quite intense cause you control less units than SC2
      4. base expansion like how many base is enough in SC2 like good amount for you not being overwhelmed by too many bases since in WC3 even Humans they usually have like 2 bases

      @@Altercate uhm... and I forgot to mention one thing BUILD LAYOUT
      in WC3 build layout can hlep you out a lots example Blade Master harasment in yourr backline which you have to wall off and in SC2 I felt like Build Layout is kinda underrated or overlooked so that's why I noticed that majority of pros play in SC2... they got harass a lots in their backline like some drop off
      yes in WC3 they can harass in backline but tha'ts harder to do than in SC2.. I found in SC2 the MOST Vulnerable part of all base is their backline AKA where the mineral and gas and workers are
      in some of ppro video I've watched in SC2... they OVERLOOKED base layout so so much that they got harass from Reaper, Battlecruiser, Liberator, Phoenix, Stalker, Zergling, Swarm Host,...etc a lots

    except it'S NOT a strategy game for 90% of the playerbase
    it's a management and control game for those, first and foremost
    strategy comes into the picture once you know and can control most of the things necessary

      Macro
      1. a single instruction that expands automatically into a set of instructions to perform a particular task.
      2. refers to higher level strategic game considerations. Macro skills therefore do not depend on granular twitch/reflex based control of game elements
      using the first one is cheating the second one is based on skill
