Skybound is really nailing the gravity of the autobot/ decepticon war on earth and how dark it really got. Idw been the only other comic run that handled that aspect really well. As to the whole arm cannon part of me thinks optimus seeing that arm attached to him is both a reminder of everythibg that led to earth as well as the bond he and megatron had back when they wer orion pax and megatronus. I could definitely see optimus say something like " lend me your strenght old friend so that i may continue to protect our dream" or him having a flashback to when megatron say he was like the sword to optimus shield one is the warior the symbol to rally their people while optimus was the diplomat, the teacher inspiring throught his words and wisdom.

Or the cannon slides backwards, to rest at the right angle where the back of the cab meets the trailer assembly (what is essentially the small of Optimus' back in robot mode), like air compressors or refrigerator units do on some models of Peterbuilt or Mack trucks? (With the rest of the arm being reconfigured to transform the same way his old arm did, of course).
If the personal pocket dimension is canon to these comics then the Fusion Cannon will disappear. And one of the sides of the trick will be grey instead of red. Which is better than what was there before. Absolutely nothing because there wasn’t even an arm to put there

I love his dynamic with Carly. And also there's a few panels after Arcee wakes up that make me ship her and ratchet. Now I know this is a different universe and all, but I'm gonna headcanon Arcee as a trans woman(since she was trans in the idw universe)
