The mainline is weird because it’s face is TOO detailed. Never thought I’d see the day that detail makes a toy less accurate

I don't mind it. I actually think I prefer the mainline bc IMO it looks like it could work really well as an Orion Pax stand in. Also much prefer the grey/silver on the mainline.
Doesn't bother me tho' since like what Spider Punk from ATSV said about consistency, I don't believe in accuracy XD lol.

The price difference is so minimal that I'm considering getting both- representing Mainline as Orion Pax, SS as Prime himself due to the height difference

According to the livestream, that was in fact the designers' intent for the two molds.
I've got both and they are both great in different ways, and only fail in one way. The cheaper one's hands are very loose, thanks to the packaging ties holding them at an angle, so keeping his hands still without wrapping rubber bands around the wrist so it squeezes the joint tightly isn't really doable. Maybe if it's left like that for a few months, it'll undo the strain Hasbro put on its wrists from overdoing the packaging ties.

If Im completely honesta I prefer the mainline over the Studio Series. While he is more accurate, the mainline looks much nicer, and this transformation is actually fun and interesting. Also, I dont need more Primes in my collection but this small dude is going to perfectly fit as Orion Pax
I think the cooler colors and especially the metallic paint give it a nicer look.

Balt man handles all his figures thats why they fall apart on him. I didn't have an issue with that Bumblebee he took a hammer too.
I'm glad the toy aimed at kids, is decent quality.
Whilst not for me, that's still cool, as kids won't want rubbish toys.
But as we all know, a quality transformer toy could spark a love for the brand.
And we need a new generation to love this brand as much as we do so it keeps going.
my grandma bought this figure as a gift for me, and i love it, its so solid and fun to pose, also, you can use the torso transformation joint to make prime go back, and that helps me in a lot of poses

2:10 The "grey" colour on the Studio Series figure isn't accurate. If you go to the first trailer and go to 1:21, where Orion is standing in the light, its clearly a normal grey.
Honestly the only thing putting me off getting the SS one is that ugly "grellow" colour and the weird sumo diaper thing it has.
There’s this misconception that because it’s studio series it HAS to be accurate, even though this figure was clearly based on concept art with weird lighting that doesn’t reflect how the design looks in neutral lighting. I fear the rest of the SS one figures will suffer from this problem.
@@Squiddlewheel most of RotB mainline was better than SS, most of Earthspark Warrior class was better than DX, it's hardly a new thing. I'd pay an extra five dollars to get pinned wrists and universal joint hips/shoulders on the Prime Changers one, though. Now if only Amazon didn't have it mispriced as $45 😖

@@vast9467 yeah and literally every single recent movie figure has been inaccurate in some way because they base it off of concept art that becomes outdated before the movie even comes out. Instead of trying to rush studio series releases alongside the movie, waiting for the movie to come out so they could be as accurate as physically possible would be ideal. But this is hasbro we’re talking about.
I'm reminded of the thing about Han Solo from Star Wars's jacket that he wears on Hoth during Revenge of the Sith. The actual jacket Harrison Ford wore was a brown, but it turned out on film as looking more like a blue.
Which presents an issue for screen-accuracy nuts: Is it better to match the actual real-world color of the jacket, or how it ended up looking to our eyes in the movie?
I don't know if the situation with Optimus Prime and Transformers One is quite similar, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up looking that yellow-ish grey for most of the film, and Hasbro chose to go with that over the true grey under that logic.
The more I see of the mainline Prime, the more I like it over the SS

Honestly I think the mainline Optimus and SS Optimus are both great. I’m using the mainline Optimus as my Orion Pax. They definitely did a great job for these mainline figures. Can’t wait to pick up Bumblebee and Sentinel!

Overall while I really enjoy both toys, I vastly prefer the Studio Series Prime. The qc on my SS was just as good as the Prime Changers one, so that wasn’t a problem to me and I appreciate the significantly more accurate robot mode and truck mode. The ankles and wrist rotation add so much more play value too. Plus, I really like how he’s just as big as some deluxes from previous movie lines, like rotf and dotm.

Overall the mainline is better. As he said in bot mode the S.S. poses better and is more accurate. However the mainline is cheaper and for the average buyer the better figure.
I can’t believe it’s been hard to choose, both seem so great and where one lacks the other makes up for. Gonna get both anyway.
For the cost, colors, and accessories I like mainline, for articulation, transformation, and details I like the Studio Series.
I’m sure we’ll get Studio Series variants of the other characters at some point that are presumably better than their mainline counterparts so I think Studio Series Optimus would be a better investment, to complete the cast with the better figures, in proper scale
I bought the mainline optimus by mistake, and i absolutely love it. My first transformer figure too. I ordered the studio series when i realised my initial mistake but im very pleased to have both.
I was on the fence about this; now i'm def going mainline. Very informative video 👌
Personally i prefer the studio series since its bigger, the transformations are on par but i do prefer the ss since the cab/torso doesn’t require a specific step process, i personally prefer the SS golden grey over the silver, its much more interesting and stands out in my shelf more and i can’t live without ankle pivot, that joint is basically necessary.
Good review you 26 y/o. I hope they upscale that mainline guy to Voyager in the future. You guys remember in Transformers Prime Predacons Rising they just upscaled a few Legion/Basic/Scout class Transformers up into big voyagers? No? That was a good time. Wish they'd upscale Legends Optimus, the one we got now to a Voyager. Simple Transformation, great robot mode, bit iffy vehicle mode.
Mainline takes this again, just like the majority of RotB. Not even in contest except for most of the joints being friction nubs instead of pinned.
Sorry but I don't really see the majority of ROTB mainline being better than SS. All the maximals have better SS, and same with the Terricons despite Scourge being pretty problematic. Which is already half of the main robot cast that got mainline and SS figure.

@@dialNforNinja Well it also depends on taste and any alternate versions. I have the Beiwai Prime and I think it's overall better than the mainline. Especially considering that the mainline is getting way overcharged. Bumblebee has better SS 100%, and I'd argue Arcee also has a better SS. SS Arcee at least has a decent robot mode that's SCALE ACCURATE and an ACTUAL motorcycle mode. The mainline may have a better robot mode, but it has a sorry excuse of a motorcycle. And the SS actually came with one of her arm cannons.
I chose the mainline over the studio series. The major deciding factor for me was the vehicle mode and color scheme
I’ll throw my two cents in: I actually prefer the Mainline VASTLY more that the Studio Series. It’s not as awkwardly bulky, the articulation is pretty darn good (just needs some ankle tilt & deeper knees admittedly but still), and it just transforms nicer. He turns into a surprisingly compact & clean bot mode (that actually HIDES/PROTECTS his matrix) and the idea of the axe emerging from his open palm is just cooler. Like I said, all someone needs to do is make third party legs that have ankles & I’m good with Mainline One being my go-to Orion Pax/Cybertronian Optimus Prime. Plus… The waist is all one piece and not some weird belt that makes posing awkward like Studio’s
Idk how to tell you this, but, when buying a 20-25 dollar figure, 5 dollars doesn't really make a considerable difference. You are still spending 4 times that amount of money at minimum. You might as well go with the way better option for a slightly higher price.
Honestly, i might get both and use the mainline as a post-cog orion.
I like the colors of the mainline more, but man, loosing ankle tilt is a huge deal breaker for me.

To me, the only thing that's really missing from the Studio Series one is the folding hands. If they could've had it where his hands folded in, it would've been an instant buy for me. And there's absolutely no excuse as to why they couldn't, they just decided not to. _That's_ what pisses me off, the fact that they could've had his hands fold in incredibly easily, yet they chose to be stupid anyway. I think I'll be picking up the mainline one instead. Thanks for showing me that there was a much better and cheaper option!

Between the two, I like the SS a lot better, though the silver is much nicer on the Mainline. There needs to be a petition for Hasbro to stop using pre yellowed grey plastic.

Im asking because both bumblebee's codnames are B-127 and they haven "similar" designs. Also sense it's in cybertron explaining why the autobots and decepticons are at war, and um curious if it will end where bumblebee 2018 started. Theories anyone?
yeah nah, ever since the bee movie, just assume the bayverse is a different continuity.
rotb probs couldn't do more connecting with the bbm one cause of the studios still being undecided.

One is not connected to anything. They’re just reusing the B-127 name because having the name Bumblebee wouldn’t make sense on Cybertron.

We'll probably have to see the full film when that comes to know for sure, but I imagine it'll be a similar situation as the Bumblebee movie: Ostensibly a prequel, but presents continuity issues when taken as such, and comes off (between the film itself and stated creator intent) as more of a soft reboot or its own thing.

I think if you get a new copy of the ss one with tighter joints your opinion will change as mine is nice and tight.
The only reason I would not get mainline is cus no ankle pivot and the legs seem stiff but I would say the only mainline prime I would get is from rotb
Honeslty alot of the mainline figures were fantastic recently. the ROTB ones were all pretty solid figures. Honestly I kinda wish they gave the mainline figure the Face sculpt he has in the movie. just so if you have both one can be Orian and one can be optimus.
Wanted to come back to this video to brag a bit. Just got the Studio Series figure for about the price of the main line. As I'm writing this comment, Target is doing a sale on transformers for 15% off. I went to a physical retailer and found the figure ($21.24). I also had a target red card on hand so I got 5% more off, making it approximately $19.99. I hope other people are just as lucky.
This is a similar case to Rise of the Beasts mainline vs Studio Series.
Weirdly, the mainline charge 3-5 bucks more than the ss line in Taiwan. I guess it’s because of different Licence fee calculations overseas.
The SS is better for the long run as he will scale much better for future Tf One ss figures, while the mainline one barely scales good with anything.

I just got the mainline one the robot mode looks good but I have both matrix's shoulder problem. My copy does not want to stay tabbed in in truck mode maybe I'm doing something wrong it just doesn't want to do it the hand you put the accent comes off very easily and the axe does not want to come off the hand I do have this deduce series one I haven't opened it yet so we shall see
I got both as well. I gotta say the SS is just better to me in every way. Both are well worth it, but I find more to enjoy with the SS

Just a question, which are the sizes for both of them in centimeters?
I collect Legends scale like Magic Square, Iron Factory, Newage etc. and I keep seeing the Studio Series being advertised as being 11cm that would make it great next to legends figures since they go around 9 to 12cm.
However the Mainline appears to me as being the one that is around 11 cm that would put the SS at around 15 cm.
Kinda groovin on the smaller one to just play with. I give up, cannot find that alternate cyclonus anywhere. How is it ? Will you trade for the really crappy clear purple plastic one?

For some reason he’s $44USD on Amazon and that’s him being sold by Amazon so until he hopefully gets the price of $20 I’m not going to think the mainline one is worth it at all
If I was going to pick one it would be the main line, I think the truck mode looks better and most importantly even though I know it's accurate I really hate the color of gray that they used for the studio series
That said I'm just not a big fan of this design overall so I'll be skipping both of them

Not to sound like a "Model Kit" elitist or anything, but as much as I'd like to call this comparison between two TF ONE Optimus Prime figures a draw since to me I think both Mainline and SS are cool in their own ways?
Like ROTB even tho' they already came out, I'm starting to think I'll rather wait until both Yolopark and Blokees reveal their model kits for the TF ONE movie instead imo, since I felt like it's time for me to take a break from Hasbro's Transformers merch for a long while and focus on what Yolopark and Blokees is doing for Transformers for now, because if I actually did get either one of these TF ONE toylines from Hasbro? any other TF fan would probably recommend me to either "get SS insead of Mainline" or "Mainline instead of SS", and that would be frustrating tbh lol.
Besides, what usually bums me out the most is that the Prime Changers figures line left out D-16 and Elita, I think SS would probably do the same too.

I don't like either of them because they're Deluxe-Class and I have big hands. Plus Optimus Prime is too important of a character to be made in such a small size; on top of that Studio Series figures tend to break very easily in my experience!
