The pond you fished is connected to the river through the hyperporheic zone (through the ground).

For me. Ive only cuaght one brook out of there. Other than that mostly rainbows. Seems like they are harder to catch
Nice one man! I gotta try twitching heavier jigs now, getting pretty good at the slow jig method with lighter jigs. Caught 15 dirty little stock trout the other day on that method (on tons of different jigs too; Trout Magnets, curly tails, maribous, steelie worms, trout worms and tubes). It's been almost a year since I've fished a river spot, might have to go hit one up soon and try some twitching.

What are your thoughts on using an 8ft ul for this method?? My contention is that the longer rod gives you more reach to fish runs close to far while keeping the most line off the water as possible to be in better contact with the jig. It also makes getting the jig into pocket water behind bolders a little easier. I fish the Truckee and other freestone rivers in NV and CA and pocket water is plenty and as I'm sure you know holds plenty of trout. My setup is exactly like yours with the exception of the extra foot of rod. I also run a low vis green braid on my spool and on the end I'll tie about 4ft of ghost white then another 4ft or so of the green then my sectiont of flouro to the jig in a length depending on average depth of the section I'm fishing. The white section gives me somthing to look at contrasted with the green to see all those stops and twitches. Its sortof adapting things I use in my euro nymphing setup when I'm fly fishing. Just thought I'd compare some notes with you. I enjoy the videos!!! Keep it up.

how do you keep the jig in the strike zone when it's down stream? seems the current just pushes it to the surface since it's so light
Awesome vid very helpful, I have one question tho, how do you tell if it’s a jack steelhead or a rainbow
I'm not sure, all I know is there are jack steelhead that are like 12'' - 16'' and they are in there right now trying to spawn with the rest of the steelhead, its possible some of the rainbows I caught were jack steelhead because I normally don't catch many rainbows there, almost all browns.

Hi FW! I am watching all your vids. Great stuff!!! Thanks alot. Looking around for black maribou jigs, and I think they may be hard to buy. So, that means I would have to tie them, and that is one more thing to learn. Question though, what size hooks are you tying?
I'm not sure about the hook size but the jig sizes I use are 1/16th and 1/8th, specifically hawken fishing aero jigs.

All wild as far as I know, only reason they are here is they got dumped in a few rivers almost 100 years ago and they adapted to some rivers like the one in this video and now we have them up to 10lbs, so im not complaining.
Thank you for another nice video! I use a similar twitch method to you with 1/8th Steely hackle jigs, hoochie jigs or worm jigs. Just settled on this method as the main one I use after experimenting and getting success here in the Fraser Valley and I was keenly interested when I came upon your channel and saw how committed and successful you are with this method:) also you mention the visible white braided line in this one which is all I use (fish have a white underside for camo right?).
Anyways, it's cool, lots of similarities...Quick question, what's your personal feeling on adding scent to your presentation? Strangely, this season I've experimented a bit with it and I've caught ALL my fish without scent and none with it, I'm talking mostly about salmon and steelhead in my case.

I was there a little more than a week ago and was asked to leave by park ranger.
The provincial park is only a small parking lot at the base of the trail and it is closed, but the main trail is open I saw bikers, dog walkers and that kinda thing on the main trail. Not to mention even then we don't spend much time on the main trail we walk way off the trails and bushwhack the river bank which is definitely not the provincial park. Were you asked to leave that parking lot area with the yellow gate or were you on the trail?
@@freemanfishing350 I was not parked at the gate, but a side road not far over the bridge and was on the water fishing, when he walked up on me. Good job on you guys being able to land that one Brown.

5 species of salmon
Sockeye don't count haha Only salmon that bite lures count. Although Sockeye do bite in the ocean but in the rivers its a snag fest. But yeah I miss spoke, 5 species not 4.
7 species of salmon . The five you mentioned plus the Russian Pacific Cherry salmon (Also called Masu).Cherries are occasionally caught in Alaska. Atlantic salmon is another one. Quite a few escaped Atlantics were caught near French Creek three years ago. www.wildsalmoncenter.org/salmon-species/masu/
@@gashacker1 Atlantic Salmon and whatever Rusian Pacific Cherry Salmon are, aren't included in that list because you could go your whole life fishing on the island and never catch either. Those don't have established runs in any river and only ever end up in our waters by accident, which is rare.
@@freemanfishing350 True Johnathan. I see your point, but the Atlantic salmon were quite a big deal in our local area after some fish farm nets broke. The local French Creek store have a freezer full of them, which they collected from the local fishermen and sent off to DFO..........
