Many bosses stand back and bark orders to the workers all day and never get down and dirty, that’s the type boss that workers often inwardly despise. Your workers will have the greatest respect for you because you work right alongside them and work as hard if not harder then what you ask them to do, and because of that respect they are far more likely to do their best to please you.
I like your approach, I like your attitude - Good job!

Hi Richard my American husband says you are smart hardworking husband. If we plan to stay in the Philippines we are going to hire you or buy the house that you already built because we knew how strong and how you built it. Wonderful job. God bless you and take care and your family. Be safe all the time.

Richard these kinds of videos showing how things are done well when doing foundation work and talking in detail about why you do what you do are so helpful to many of the people who are having similar work done. I'm happy to see things progressing as smoothly as possible for your house build. May God bless and keep you and your works safe throughout construction. Its a shame that construction worker Ella couldn't make the cut..but thems the breaks as they say. lol You can already tell this house will be Armstrong Strong home! Best Wishes for you all!

Another hidden benefit of putting downspouts in those columns is allowing cool air to rise through those giant heat sinks to cool them off from the inside on sunny days as well as helping to cool the columns off quicker on rainy days and we know how hot it can get out here. Those downspouts will act like chimneys to exhaust that heat away

RECOMMENDATION: When you construct your actual house, do not put inside the column the downspout. Why? (1) Philippines always have an earthquake, you need a solid column from footing to roofing. (2) Inside downspout, when clogged, you cannot rectify it, outside is much easier to declogged and/or replaced.

Richard, when looking at typical Philippine HB and mortar, it always looks a bit messy, they seem to use a lot of mortar between layers and no mortar between blocks. In comparison to the US, we use about a 1/2” of mortar on all sides with nice clean lines and spacing. What are your thoughts on this, do you think it affects the quality of the wall? I remember on the first build you really wanted to avoid HB, was this one of the reasons?

Richard you are so lucky that your soil is soil and not solid rock. Building a house on the north end of Cebu Island we have three or less inches of soil then we are into solid rock, in fact the upper part of the land we have stone sticking out of the ground, not little stones but huge boulders. When we were digging the 45 footings for the columns the sound of progress was the ding ding dink of the bar hitting the stone along with the rat a tat tat of the one jack hammer I have (wore it out), In this area they don't dig with a shovel but a long bar made out of a 25mm rebar. The one good thing is that I will have no settling as all columns are sitting on solid rock. I like how you extended your fence footing (cantilever retaining wall) into your land making a large heel at the bottom. With the soil on top of the heel. That will keep your wall from leaning outward with the pressure against it. I see so many people just put a 6 inch beam at the bottom of the wall and wonder why if fails. Keep up the great work and look forward to future vlogs.
