The problem with Corsair's method for vertical GPUs is that they place them right up against the edge of the case. This is fine if you're going to water-cool your GPU, but if you're planning on just using the stock cooling solution, your air flow is going to be choked off by the side panel.

Usually programmers have a rubber ducky. Before they ask their colleague or a boss about an issue, they explain it to this duck, either loud or in their mind, but building complete sentences, imagining the other side not knowing too much about the problem yet. Many then figure it out, without talking to anybody afterwards :D You can see it happen at 25:00 :)

That power supply is pretty sweet and I might get one for myself, but to your point - you can have a door-less basement. I had a friend in school who lived in a house built in the 1700s and it had a basement that could only be accessed through the floorboards and a second basement that could be accessed by climbing through the inside of the wall and sliding down. The house used to be the general store, so I suspect the basements were for storing dry goods and possibly bootlegging (possibly rum-running since the goods would be coming in from port).
I’ve always wanted to build my own pc with specs good enough to play my games… but neurological issues mean I couldn’t do it on my own. Love watching them being built
Hello Linus, PCB design engineer here, to answer your question about why they have two pcie connectors there, it is because the thin lines on the board can't handle all 200-300w of power going through them in just one connector. Long answer short, it can cause heating and stability issues.
I was installing a water block for my GPU and adding it to my loop yesterday and somehow managed to have my one finger just jam right into one of the motherboard pins... yeah that was real fun... ouch
That's a classic feeling man. My first pc I built back in the day was an antec900. Every time I changed a part it was like my hands went through a war.

Right now I go with a lower end yet decent card that’s reasonable and affordable in today’s market. All other parts I still go for the best high end but also reasonably affordable.

Near the end: Use USB stick to install, with just enough storage for the install package. It's then forced to a) Pick the SSD instead as an install target b) Forego the usage of the install stick as a place to put anything. Also, you may wanna use the lowest Sata port for an install drive, or leave anything else out when using an nVME SSD.

The gpu plug thing. The PSU connector port has a substantially lower under load temperature than the GPU ports. As you heat up a conductor, the resistance increases, which then causes the conductor to heat up more, causing a runaway thermal condition when you pass a certain threshold. There are also typically sensors in the PSU that will throttle or shut off power to a port that is overheating on the PSU, but cannot monitor the port on the GPU, so they designed it in a way that the port on the PSU should be the first to overheat if a critical situation is eminent. That was the thought process behind the design, but whether or not it's a functional feature of the PSU depends on the manufacturer.

What’s interesting. I don’t have the reference but I think it was enermax. They had a diagram showing to connect two separate cables from the power supply to the graphics card and not to use the cable that you were showing with the split 8pin. In cases of Max load, some single cables could get too hot for spec. Having a one cable standard would be so much easier for everybody I agree.
I miss old school huge full tower cases. Even wouldn't mind a custom case with 6 or 8 external 5.25 bays, and at least 6 3.5 external drive bays, Plus more internal drive bays.
My local Memory Express surprised me with a GTX 3060 When I went in to buy all the other parts for my PC a week ago. Bought myself an entirely new Rig aside from the case, I was planning onwaiting for my GPU until they became abailable. They said they could see I wasn't scalping or mining so talked with one of their managers and hooked me right up. Preorder and stock is not available whatsoever so it was really nice to see them willing to help me out. They are available, shop local!!!! This experience changed my perception of the local computer supply industry. Shopping online is great but amazon and Newegg would never be able to pull strings like this. Best part is that I bought my Asus TUF RTX 3060 at MSRP with no markup.
Cold in the bottom fans hot out the top. That's the correct way, because even if say a fan of two goes out, you still have thermal dynamics on your side. If you do it the other way and a fan goes out, you could potentially end up in a situation where the fans are trapping heat in the case.
I manage to do a 2 hour long task for my extra boring job without realizing when the 2 hours has past. I guess your voice is so familiar after all this years of LTT . Love your work Sebastian !
1:17:00 I have those same fans in my newest build. 3x120 on the front, 2x140 up top on a rad and 1x140 on the back. All plugged into a corsair rgb hub. The syncing in icue is cats a$$! Highly recommend 👌
As far as doing the multiple loops. The first thing you do is connect them all together and flush them through with peroxide that way they should all be clean or equally contaminated.
Linus posts a 2.5 h video of building 1 PC... „Oh well, I will just skip through it...“ *continues to watch the whole thing and get nothing else done this morning*....
Linus needs to add clips of him cleaning parts with his shirt to the Onlyfans. That happy trail being shown to sexy music as he buffs the parts to a glossy sheen.... oh baby! 😂
I am not a qualified electric engineer but as I understand it the thicker the cable is(the gauge) the more watts you can run along it without causing any problems like an electrical fire. The trade off of course is the thicker cables is the more stiff they become. In house wiring you would need a cable that can handle 10kwh like a power shower(running off a 40amp fuse from your fuse box or circuit breaker). You wouldn't run very thin cables for a power shower, you would end up with the cables burning and your house would burn down.
@UCVR9cF1ixw8Or26OVhOytbQ Check Mr Rossman's YT channel on how the Asus rep told a customer that the thickness of a thermal pad is a sensitive company info.
@@FeyFox Hell, I jumped to an Asus lappy from shitty Lenovo lappy builds with HDD failing less than a year and chassis breaking by 2 years. At least it wasn't an absolute BS of a hardware compared to 1 RAM slot of Lenovo.
Dual 8 pin connectors are so you can use a second power-supply if your current one does not suffice. Also to be able to install the card in a system with a second redundant power-supply.
PSU wires are #16 AWG cables witch is rated at about 15-18 AMPs, The RTX 3080Ti 12GB GPU uses about 505W of power that means it may peak at 12-13 AMPS divided in 6 of the 8 pins so yea yea it is perfectly safe to split it

There's something oddly nerve wracking seeing a man dicking around with PC parts that are worth more than my car and hearing him say " naw we're just gonna wing it "
The solder connection is the point of the connection max rating... overpowering the connection for long periods can cause the solder to heat to the point of becoming soft and any contact or movement of the system can pull the solder loose from the PCB. ( I've had it happen on an electric wheelchair joystick once )

You're not alone, was starting to think that it was only on my end.
No, stream was in fhd day ago, its only 360p now, its broken
i have it too
I started watching the video yesterday and it had 1080p...
When RUclips (Google) starts running out of storage space.... (I'm getting 360p as well here).
This stream was amazing, please do more like this!
I miss old school huge full tower cases. Even wouldn't mind a custom case with 6 or 8 external 5.25 bays, and at least 6 3.5 external drive bays, Plus more internal drive bays.
*so happy i got my hands on a Ryzen 7 5800X and RTX 3070Ti....got them 3 days ago and paired together my rig runs like a BEAST!!!!*
"I'll write it, and we'll do it live!" - Linus (but ya gotta say it with anger like Bill O')
What’s hilarious is that I got an ad of *LTT in his own videos* explaining honey browser extension app lmfao
i really want to see a micro centre in australia, that would so cool
Hell,I'd like to see one here in Oklahoma! :)
I'd take one in Florida. I think I have to go to Georgia to see one.
20:20 did Linus have a sandwich before livestreaming? lmaoo
You guys got me there for a second... Thought someone was standing sneakily in the corner only to realise that it was just a Linus cardboard cutout.😂
Same! I was thinking that he was just really committed to being his body guard or something lmao
I manage to do a 2 hour long task for my extra boring job without realizing when the 2 hours has past. I guess your voice is so familiar after all this years of LTT . Love your work Sebastian !
1:17:00
I have those same fans in my newest build.
Do you guys plan on doing a scrap yard again in the future?
i loved watching those
linus vs. jake or alex would be fun to watch tbh
They probably do. But covid has more than likely no pun intended scrapped all plans of it because of social distancing
I like how chill the vibe of the whole stream and how Linus is
20:22 when linus spits everywhere XDDD
There is a bracket holder that goes on the end and supports it. EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder
For an RTX 3080 and 3090 GPU always install 2 PCIE cables from the power supply
Linus posts a 2.5 h video of building 1 PC... „Oh well, I will just skip through it...“ *continues to watch the whole thing and get nothing else done this morning*....
Lmao so me 😂
... morning? ... Oh. look, it IS morning. Almost. Soon. It's 3 am. I should sleep.
Wish I could do this when I'm bored. I have to resort to taking my car apart and putting it back together "better"
Linus needs to add clips of him cleaning parts with his shirt to the Onlyfans. That happy trail being shown to sexy music as he buffs the parts to a glossy sheen.... oh baby! 😂
Lol

I am not a qualified electric engineer but as I understand it the thicker the cable is(the gauge) the more watts you can run along it without causing any problems like an electrical fire. The trade off of course is the thicker cables is the more stiff they become. In house wiring you would need a cable that can handle 10kwh like a power shower(running off a 40amp fuse from your fuse box or circuit breaker). You wouldn't run very thin cables for a power shower, you would end up with the cables burning and your house would burn down.
thanks for taking off the peels good idea most people leave them on then melt on to their stuff

YARP!
Good thing the Asus components aren't yet censored in this video, lol
why would they need to be censored? did I miss something?
@UCVR9cF1ixw8Or26OVhOytbQ Check Mr Rossman's YT channel on how the Asus rep told a customer that the thickness of a thermal pad is a sensitive company info.
Okay so now nobody should buy asus products because of that?
I have a tuf 3080 and couldnt say a bad thing about it🤔
@@FeyFox Hell, I jumped to an Asus lappy from shitty Lenovo lappy builds with HDD failing less than a year and chassis breaking by 2 years. Guess, I can't service my lappy without breaking my warranty to upgrade my storage and a single slot of RAM with them soldering the other one. At least it wasn't an absolute BS of a hardware compared to 1 RAM slot of Lenovo.
Streamed: 5 days ago
Everyone: watches now
Dual 8 pin connectors are so you can use a second power-supply if your current one does not suffice.
Also to be able to install the card in a system with a second redundant power-supply.
PSU wires are #16 AWG cables witch is rated at about 15-18 AMPs, The RTX 3080Ti 12GB GPU uses about 505W of power that means it may peak at 12-13 AMPS divided in 6 of the 8 pins so yea yea it is perfectly safe to split it
i built a whole dresser while having this video on. Thanks linus for keeping me company the whole time talking about god knows what
I think that Corsair is like: "If you are using our case you shoud be using our power supply...
Awesome stream. Thanks LTT as always
buy last years best parts, saves me 1000s it unbelievable
14:01 this tangent went so many places😂😂😂
Friend: What do you do for a livin-
Linus: I spend money to make money to build something with money on RUclips.
360p :(
It's fixed now for me as I had the same issue a couple of days ago. I think RUclips might've had a backlog of videos that needed to be transcoded or something. Happy watching!
Did someone in chat seriously say "I'm glad you fired ___"???? Thats so fricking rude, wtf?
I love micro center. I built my whole PC with them. Right before the GPU shortage.
microcenter is the best place to get all of the computer items. everyone who works there is almost as smart as linus. they have great deals too
"I'm bored. Build a gaming PC with me!!"
Meanwhile me with 100$: 🤨
20:23 Apparently Linus spits. Good to know.
I used to watch these vids a while ago but I just stopped and I'm finally gonna build my first pc and started watching these again lol
