Oliver: I'm turning 21 in a month.
Oliver in his last video: It's my birthday.. yAy!
Hmmm... sUspIcIoUs
When a pre recorded video makes you look like a liar 😔
abd illustrates and olivers antics in one day? i feel blessed.
I feel the same way lol
Truly a blessing
Ah I see you are a person of culture as well
I was over her like “I wanna finish abd illustrates video but Oliver just posted”
Blessed
ABD illustrates and Oliver post within the same hour
And both make the incredibles reference
Coincidence? I think not
Actually I've just finished up a comic making class! And fonts were one of the last things taught!
ALRIGHT!
Some tips when choosing fonts:
1) Making sure the font uses capitalize letters. Capital letters are much easier to read and prevents spelling mistakes with letters like b,d,p,q.
2) Avoid script-like lettering! As pretty as they are, and are wonderful for things like titles, transition pages, "to be continued" boxes-they are the WORSE thing to use in speech and narration boxes.
3) Don't be afraid to vary your text. It's not a bad thing to have a variation of text styles-regular, bold, semibold, italic. These are all good things to have to help establish "rules" in your text. EX: Italics for thought balloons, semibold for narration boxes, ect.
4) Avoid "orphan words". This means to avoid having only one word in a line. The one exception is if the line is one word long.
5) I-as in capital "i". This one is tricky because it's kind of a 50/50 rule. If in the middle of a word I should usually be used without the top and bottom serifs for cleaner reading. If "I" is alone the serifs are usually present-however again this isn't always true and more up to your taste.
6) Hand-lettering is always an option. Hand-lettering allows for more freedom with text and even giving the chance to give a unique text to each character without it being jarring as would multiple fonts.
Ty!
If you want lettering to be in your kind of style, there’s a website where you can make your own font, download it, and then use it in your program
he made it guys he got a clip studio paint sponsor
Oliver: the lasso fill tool, mind blowing
Me: wait till you find the one that reads your lines and you don’t have to be careful about edges
The what now
@@OliversAntics69 so there’s a lasso tool that acts as a fill bucket, so you can select an area and it’ll fill it in, so if you have a body, you lasso it around the body and it fills it in
@@OliversAntics69 *nods nods nods* yeah it’s in the fill area! Though you do need to change the settings just a tad so they don’t bleed outside of the lines. (Been using clip since 2015.... feelin good.)
clip studio paint is something I never thought I would see you do. It’s absolutely great tho.
4:24
Me laughing: your 21 ':D
Oliver: im turning 21 next month
Font tip:
Oliver, there are actually websites to make a font outta your own handwriting! I highly suggest doing this because it makes the letters consistent and adds you own spin on the comic. Hope this helped!
i knew this would come. i saw your little clip studio icon in one of your insta stories XD
You can also make your own custom pattern brushes which can be extremely useful for something like comics. Instead of redrawing the same patterns for someones clothes or backgrounds or flowers for a flowerbed a thousand times you can make the brushes once and get consistent patterns that are still unique for everything you do.
Im so stressed from finals this is just what i needed! thx oliver!
an Oliver’s antics video and my birthday on the same day. Yes
happy birthday
Hell yeah! This is so cool, I love it when Oliver does something out of the ordinary or new
I like how the first thing you did in it is the exact same thing that I did when I first got it.
ALSO THIS IS THE MOST GENUINE REVIEW OF THIS PROGRAM I HAVE EVER SEEN ALL THE OTHER ONES HAVE BEEN SCRIPTED PFFT
I love bloodstains in my cute anime moments! 💕💕
Highlight of my Wednesday, so I clicked real fast 😌
the lasso fill tool is so damn underrated! it's my favourite tool in csp
Just took my first COVID shot. It’s nice to come home to an Oliver’s Antics video! Keep up the good work man.
did i try? yes
but it still doesn't look good.
*the epitome of my art lmao*
Gotta love clip studios animation feature too 👌 been using it for a school project and it’s pretty nice! I’m more used to flip a clip but clip studio’s free trial just made it more fancy ✨
"Cuz if there's any piece of work that belongs in a museum, it's this."
*50 years later* "And here by this beautiful artwork done by Drawingwiffwaffles we have an outstanding digital drawing done by Mr. Oliver's Antics called, 'Pure Art'-"
I heard comics and got my hopes up.
But this was worth it
First of all great video as allwayd!
Seacond for fonts you could eather make your own or dowload some premade ones you like.:)
THR HIGHLIGHT OF MY WEDNESDAYS IS HERE!!!
The colors are amazing om f g
pssst (in case you weren't told yet) idk if your lines are a little too open for it but if you go to the select tool, turn on 'close gap' and turn it up all the way and csp will ignore that your lines aren't closed and treat the shapes you draw the same way they would if all the lines were closed, it saves me so much time since I don't like closing all my lines either
We had to think about font for a project in school, we were told to use a free font download program, can remember the exact name but it had 100s of options and you can try them out before downloading them, but when picking one we were told to think about what we’re using the font for and what the personality of the font is(we had to match fonts to different shoes).
I also think there’s away to make your own custom font but I don’t know how.
Who's going to tell Oliver that CSP closes gaps so invert selection fill works.
The font you used is indeed not perfect for comics, but there's also too much white space in the text bubbles. Apparently you can't have a lot of white space in text balloons in comics.
I got that tip from Nate Piekos, the person behind Blambot Comic Fonts & Lettering. Definitely check out his website, it has some very nice fonts that are free to use!
I hadn't noticed how much I missed seeing Rory and Lucca in your videos 🥺
Btw congrats on the sponsor!!
Congratulations. Rock On.
I loved this video! I really wanna learn clip studio since I bought it a long time ago but I am so used to paint tool sai so it's hard to let go when you have one particular way to do stuff and did custom brushes etc :,D
Also Oliver this is driving me crazy but in the first panel where Rory says "wake up sleepy" you forgot to draw her long hair strands framing her face and it's all I can see
Other than that :,D I really love this version and the proportions are so much better like wow? I already liked the first version but this one? That's real yummy
One of my fav artists has posted thy wonderful video😌✋
Blambot is a great website for comic fonts. Some are paid, but lots are free, not to mention royalty free for independent creators!
ahhhh I want to use CSP more I just run away bc the commitment of learning a new program LOL but we'll get there. I like how the comic page turned out!! I was also thinking it'd be pretty cool if you made a video sort of shedding insight on the process of making comics or something like that. I know you probably don't feel credible enough to do that but I'm pretty sure you know a lot compared to a beginner's knowledge of comics/webcomics, even if it was like touching over the basics I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! But at the same time no pressure bc ik ur already doing soooooo much pls take care of urself omg
I’m not even 30 seconds into the video and I’m already loving it and I love your art style I grew up drawing animals a lot so I’m not great a drawing people
Your drawing of yourself with a smol ponytail is awesomeee:D just felt like I had to say that lol, I'll watch the video till the end now XD
Was craving some redraw videos and watching your old one and whaddaya know he's made another one >:)
Nobody:
Oliver: *likes every comment*
I watched this at 2:00 Pm and I wanted to leave this comment but I couldn’t.....because I was sleeping....your voice is so calming I love to put you on as just noise and then later in the day I re-watch the videos to see what I missed but your voice is so hypnotic
My tip for typefaces in comics is to make your own! You can use websites and templates to write in your letters and then you can make your own font based on your handwriting!! That way you have a typeface made special for the comic that’s specific to you and your handwriting!
Also yes I do call fonts typefaces- my graphic design teacher has hammered it into my head that a font is italics, bold, and stuff like that, not the actual letters appearances- that’s a typeface lol
comics sans you’re welcome🥶
Beautiful 😍😍
i feel like you know more about this program than i do and i use it kinda frequently (to be fair, i could put more effort into actually learning it but doing whatever is just,,,, easier)
aaaaaah comics are my favourite ,, csp is my favourite ,, 10/10 video i love seeing rory and lucca again
Jack Armstrong is a great font for comics. you can always customize your own font from your hand writing. also if you go to windows go down and open sub tool you get a great reference window that can hold a lot of references and auto give you colors from them.
You should try animating with csp if you have the EX version. Cause it has animation feature.
I use CSP for my webcomic, and my digital art in general and let me tell you. I went from FireAlpaca with like *nO* blending tools to CSP with *aLL* the blending tools and I was in shock
Side note I use CC Wild Words Roman for my comic work and I find it works pretty well.
this feels weird but i was really excited for you to use clip LMAO. i've indoctrinated like 8 friends into using it and i'm only finally at the point where i feel like i've learned everything about the program after using it for like a year
I don’t know how I only discovered you now, but dang, your awesome, subbed
Panel isn't a word anymore-
My favorite ballpoint pen died 😢
But yeah, good job Oliver 😁👍🏻
One good comic font to use is OutOfLineBB, most people in the industry use it and its pretty cheap to get
Both look really good though whoa!!
I actually just found out about making custom font lists so you dont have to scroll endlessly into a pit of fonts that you may not even like, on clip if you open up the sub-tool detail while on the text tool and click on the setting icon on the corner you can create a list of fonts that you already have on your system into a nice folder which you can then easily click through, If you had downloaded a new font you should restart clip studio for the fonts to update, hope this helps.
about the font thing, most webcomic creators create their own font from handwriting. idk about printed ones
Wow o new video me like, also.. was this pre-recorded?
Is your comic gonna be on webtoon? That would be really cool,,
greetings hoomans, the ocasional jellyfish, tis i your friendly neighborhood avocado
i think it's called turnip pen because back in the day they used turnips to make black ink but idk
I'm making my comic and do wanna get it traditionally printed but that's hoping I could get a gofo Company to take my book .
If not imma stick with Webtoon then get it traditionally published later
Cool
IM 18 NOW I CAN WATCH YOU AGAIN!!!
Heyo! I love your art, I think it is super cool! I have a question though, how did you find your art style? I don't know if you have already answered this question, but I don't want to look through all your videos cause I am lazy and that would take a long time. Sorry if this is bothersome. Uhhhhhh thanks for answering if you do end up finding this comment and dooooo end up answering. Anyways, ya, how did YOU find your art style, and do you mind telling us so that we can find ours as well, please? Thank you and I hope you can answer these questions!
Reminder: The comic isn't out yet
I personally make my own fonts for my comics
noot noot
I have a question- What are Andy, Lucca and Rory's ancestry? like, nationalities? European? you've already shared Sawyer's so I'm really curious
Lucca and Rory are both full Italian! Andy's honestly I haven't really settled on a solid answer, but I'll probably talk more about it once I actually know myself 🙃
@@OliversAntics69 As an italian I now love Lucca and Rory even more (if that's possible)
I use a free font called Pangolin for my comic and I found it on Google Fonts
Im like you draw 😍
If you get ClipStudio on your phone its not near as fun. You have to pay to get the full version of it with ALL the brushes.
Yeah the phone Vers basically like a demo. It’s not rlly meant for long term use tbh it’s meant to tempt you to but the full version which is def worth the payment tbh. I bought it a few months ago and it deadass changed my life lol
@@sleepytoons2155 same, I bought it when it was on sale (bc im broke) and it has changed my life
I've seen clip studio paint on iPad but I don't know how that is
I had clip studio paint few weeks ago and the tools just stoped working
I was like "oh the font can't be that bad" and then it really was that bad.
Early squad, WHERE YA AT!
Oliver it's May and you haven't made any comic pages yet how is it supposed to be out this year
Tsk tsk LIES AND DECIET EVERY YEAR SMH MY HEAD
Let's just ignore the fact that I said April the first time I wrote this
Time is an illusion
By not sleeping obviously
When’s ur birthday
Hello mr oliver how are you?

@@OliversAntics69 ecstatic now that the worlds greatest artist replied to me😶

(0)-(0) hi..
OLIVER USE COMIC SANS
Wait I thought they were already 21 or am I just slow ?
I am, this video was just pre recorded! Don't worry you weren't the only one confused
@@OliversAntics69 oh thank goodness 😂.
Thank you for this week's video! I now know how to draw a comic. Mind if I Dm you on Instagram or email about this project I'm going to be working on?
The one dislike button is regretting they didn't give a like instead 😤
