It was a great surprise to see you post two new videos, thank you. I’ve enjoyed helicopters from when I was a child, 64 now, and your videos allow us to feel like we are flying with you. Thanks.
Thanks! I like to explain what's going on, especially when it's something unusual. I'm going to try hard to make more videos that cover various aspects of flying helicopters. Stay tuned!
Love that spin and land! Never flown in a helicopter, but I used to be LZ for Reach and Calstar and such, and have gotten to watch military copters practicing rapid landings getting ready for a secret Presidential visit to my small town airport, and the one thing that I watch for to spot pilot skill is the multi axis control, whether they can swing it in neatly, or have to do multiple separate motions. You are better than most I have seen, except for that Marine guy on the presidential detail who was going down the runway 2 feet high and doing a slow flat spin so the guys with guns could sweep the surroundings lol
It's interesting watching someone unfamiliar, fly into KHIO, which happens to be my home airport. You even had me trying to figure out where it was! LOL! Got to love HIO and their IFR days. Good thing they allow SVFR. It seems there are many days where you can get in and out just fine, but a small portion of the airport is technically IFR, therefore putting the whole airport IFR.
Ironic stumbling on this video. I used to live in Hillsboro and could see my former employer's campus in the distance just as you were turning to land. Yes, that freeway underneath you is the Sunset, US26. Thanks!
Great flight and video. Thoroughly enjoy your videos, the footage and content is great. Thank you very much for sharing. Looking forward to the next one. 😊
Had a question: does the circling you were going to do or hovering in one place consume more fuel? I've heard that hovering a helicopter takes a lot of work but I was curious if that was the only reason for the circling.
It's a matter of safety and ease -- it's safer and easier to keep moving than to pull into an out-of-ground-effect hover. Also, hovering in one place is more likely to annoy people on the ground. And hovering takes more power so hovering uses more fuel.
don't know how practical it would be but would it be beneficial to pre set nav1 or nav2 to the vor if there is one before hand just to make it easier to find the airfield? i do a lot of VFR flights on Vatsim with Flightsim and it has always helped me but wondering how practical it would be in real life thanks i plan on going to flight-school for rotor next year so Im trying to get as much real world knowledge as i can flightsim
Does the copter always kinda rock back and forth while you're flying or is it something you're doing? I've only been in two kkinds of helicopters i my life a chinook and a lifeflight both times i couldnt really see lol
I drive full size semi truck and trailer, absolutely hate going into an unknown jobsite and they tell me to "just" circle the block while they make room for me to park...you know the pilot/driver is always responsible
I enjoy your videos I'm looking to start recording my flights any chance you can let me know what your using to record the videos and how your getting the audio Thanks Chuck
I didn't mean to condescend. I get a lot of questions that are answered in the video. I very clearly requested a special VFR clearance to enter the airspace at 1:45. So if you listened, you didn't listen very well. So please don't take offense when I can't see what your problem is. It turns out that half the airport had low ceiling so they were required to call IMC and I was required to special VFR to land.
@@FlyingMAir OK bygones. Tower said Special VFR as well. Got it. Anywhere within 5nm radius of airport less than 1000' ceiling and 3SM is IFR. Right. It was reported 900' Brk. Vis more than 3sm for your arrival. (Rotor craft only need 1sm for SVFR.) That's all I'm saying. The BKN ceiling was becoming SCT, with excellent visibility. Ceiling 100' higher, VFR. Where part of the field is IFR and the other part clear is what special VFR is great for as in this case. I flew out of Seattle and Hillsborough for years, know Northwest weather. NW weather like that is a sunny day; get your sunglasses.
I had no problem with visability that day. But rules are rules. And don't I only need 1/4 mile for Special VFR? I better check so I don't embarrass myself next time. Weather is generally very good where I learned to fly (Arizona) and where I mostly fly now (Eastern Washington state). My weather rules get rusty.

I'll try to post new videos more regularly. I didn't realize my channel had so many subscribers!
Thank you for spending the time to make these wonderful videos for us Maria.
That is my neck of the woods. It was awesome to see the place from above -- all of the familiar landmarks. Welcome to Hillsboro!
Thanks! I spent 2 days there waiting for some unscheduled maintenance (the worst kind) to be done before hurrying back home.
You are pretty good at this fly / video / narrate bizzo. Most enjoyable. Lovely country around there.
Wonderful approach and landing. Makes it real tempting to drop a bunch of cash to go flying again. :D
Great video, really nice insight into the processes, etc. Describing what's going on makes these videos good to watch.
Thanks! I like to explain what's going on, especially when it's something unusual. I'm going to try hard to make more videos that cover various aspects of flying helicopters. Stay tuned!
That was exciting and fun to watch. Welcome back.
Thanks! Great to be back.
Nice...thxs for sharing. Amazing views, love the low-level views. Oregon is pretty country.
Oh my goodness gracious !!!! Lucky you to be in one of those ...! Enjoyed it !!! Lots of love from India
Like a glove! That was awesome - my hat is off to you - make it look so smooth and easy :D
Thanks!

Hello, thank you for sharing this VFR/Spc with radio exchange !
Also the dog-dog companion ^^ same on my way.. with a litle york ;)
Definitely not too long. Could watch that beautiful scenery for hours haha. Interesting ATC. Great touchdown.
Great flight and very interesting, Thanks!😊
Glad you enjoyed it. I hoped it wouldn't be too long.
@@FlyingMAir very interesting approach. would watch even longer videos :)
@@FlyingMAir Not too long at all!
Love your videos.
Thanks for the great video, fun to watch!
Nice landing. Very good flight.
I always get a kick out of you saying "now I have to find it" It's kinda' like "I know there's an airport out there somewhere!" Great job finding it.
Sometimes they’re hard to find! 🤷🏻♀️

I live in Potsdam,NY.
I wish I see you. Thank for video
The definitions in your "description" were very helpful. Always wondered what some of those meant!👍
I have to remember to do that more often when I use jargon in a video.
Ironic stumbling on this video. I used to live in Hillsboro and could see my former employer's campus in the distance just as you were turning to land. Yes, that freeway underneath you is the Sunset, US26. Thanks!

Loved it! Great landing!
Thanks!
Hey, another video, thanks...love these videos..
Thanks! I like sharing them!
I enjoy your videos
This was great...
Thanks!
Very enjoyable, although the lack of easy landing sites in those residential areas makes me uneasy.
People who are constantly worried about making an emergency landing should probably not be pilots. Just saying.
Too cool !!!

There’s no VOR receiver on the helicopter. I navigate by GPS.
Just fascinating 🤭
A patient little dog you have Mair. When you are at about 800ft what is the autorotation distance you could achieve in an engine failure scenario?
Great videos! Who's your co-pilot?
Thanks! I’m flying with Penny the Tiny Dog in this video. She’s mostly out of view, I think.
FlyingMAir - Apart from one moment when she leans forward and we can see the back of her head.
Missed your videos, glad you're back. Who's your furry companion?
That's Penny the Tiny Dog. She loves to go flying.
We saw your doggie!

i love your videos, i just subscribed, you are a very nice helicopter pilot, all the ones i meet was very rude to me.

It just looks like some windy conditions. Take a look at the slip indicator (that bouncing ball under the artificial horizon)...

What a pain! I can't imagine what it must be like to drive one of those monsters.

I will be addressing this in a future video.
Where's the special VFR?
Were you listening?
@@FlyingMAir I did listen. Looking at video it did not look special VFR to me is what I'm saying. No need to condescend. I'm just an ATP with 10K hrs.

Did you ever fly barefoot
You should get an autopilot
WoW what a great job... do you need pilots? 😉
Yeah, next year for cherry season. Be sure to come with a helicopter; I only have one.
