Helicopter Orchard Departure with Narrated Startup and Landing

- In this relatively short video, I start up my helicopter in a field adjacent to an orchard and depart using a maximum performance takeoff. I did my best to narrate the startup procedure, but I honestly could do better (and will in the future) -- this covers the basics. I use picture-in-picture to show the view out the front of the helicopter, which includes the instrument panel, as well as the view looking in at me. (I think it's pretty cool that you can see the terrain receding behind me in this wide angle view.) In this video, I've experimented with callouts to point out certain things I'm talking about and explain things I should have explained in the narration. My video editing skills are getting better, but there's always room for improvement. I'm trying!
As usual, I'd love to get your comments about the video. Leave them in the comments section below and don't be afraid to tell me what you need me to show or explain in future videos. I'm always looking for new topics to cover. And if you like this video, watch a few more and consider subscribing!

Respected Madame, we, who live in third world country, are giving you a lots of thanks because most of us have no experience of flying. You have filled up our dream. Take regards.
You do still exist!! Glad to see some new videos from you. i was just telling our maintenance pilot about your channel a few months back and realized how long it's been since I last saw a video from you. Hope all is well. Always enjoyed your channel. Now subscribed. Also we just moved one of our helicopters to Pangborn by hospital request. Keep a look out for some goof balls in a red and white EC135.
I’ve been seeing those guys flying around. Everything is good. Really enjoying the new audience for my videos.
Wonderful little video. Gorgeous country you get to fly in. Happy landings!
it's like sitting there live thanks for the great ride along.
Beautiful landscape.
Wenatchee is a great city! I have family out there and were up there for thanksgiving, beautiful!
Thanks for your videos! My fiance and I watch them together. Your videos are relaxing and full of beautiful scenery
She makes flying a helicopter look so easy.
maybe because it is...
The camera is amazing. Very crisp video and audio!
Hi, Maria. I really enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming! Flying helicopters has always been a dream of mine, but fife kept getting in the way.
Appreciate your time doing these. Hello from Oregon
Hello!
I swear, i thought this was a video game at first lol
I guess RUclips figured out I like helicopters! Glad I found your channel Switched from fixed wing to paragliders 6 years ago, but still have a soft spot in my heart for spinny rotor thingies that fly!
Man, that was a beautiful area.
Beautiful landing.
Almost done with my CFII, cant wait to start working doing something!
Amazing View! Hope to get my rating in helicopter in future. Focusing on instrumental for now
Great video! New hello student here-- thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much again Maria. 👍
Beautiful area where you took off
Perfect.
Wow. Sweet
Very nice, I would love to learn how to fly a helicopter.
That was very cool, thank you for this. Where can we find out more about your career and training as a pilot?
My blog: www.AnEclecticMind.com/
If you wanted to get fuel from that truck when you landed, how would you go about that? Do you just walk up and ask? Do you fuel yourself? Do they take card or is it a "charge it to my account" sort of thing?
Just found your channel recently and am loving the helicopter rides. I've always been more of a fan of fixed wing but this has been very interesting. Thanks for being active with uploads and replies as well as including such detailed video descriptions. I really appreciate it!
Funny you should ask. Some of those questions are covered in tomorrow’s video.
Just watched, you can read my mind. Thank you!
That is awesome. What is the fuel capacity of your helicopter, and how far can you go on a tank?
great
Missed your videos
They’re baaaack!
What helicopter is this? Awesome flight, and video! Keep up the good work😊
Robinson R44.
Wow! Its beautiful😄
Can You Fly Over Saddle/Rock
I used to do alotta Hiking & Bouldering up in there
I Grew up in Wenatchee -[CHelan Co.]
I Live in Idaho now -Havent been back Wenatchee in Years
I occasionally do fly over or past Saddle Rock. I’ll try to get footage in a future video.
Did you used to fly tours out in Hawaii? You look just like the helicopter pilot we had a few years ago.
I wish! 😊
FlyingMAir You May have a long lost twin sister out there. LOL
Mega!
Fun job. My next life 🙄
There’s only one life. Never too late to learn. 🤷🏻♀️
🙂
Brasil! Ok! R44
I want fly with you!
Beautiful video, but the on screen graphics are too small to read on a phone, make it phone friendly, and you will get more subscribers!
I know. Sorry! I’ll make them bigger next time.
How did the accident happen on your last helicopter?
Read all about it here: www.aneclecticmind.com/2018/03/03/another-stupid-pilot-trick/
I didn't know about the crash. Glad you are ok.
@@FlyingMAir Wow. Glad you walked away from that. 👍
Me, too.
Thanks. Me, too.

I don´t know why.. but helicopter footage is always so enjoyable. and this is about the most enjoyably a seen
Greetings,
Never flown a rotary wing with me inside.
Just fixed wing.
Nice videos.
Thanks for uploading it.
I enjoy your channel. I love your calm voice. Beautiful area you fly. Keep safe. Mike from Canmore Alberta Canada
Great Content
But I have a request
Could you make a subtitles a little bit bigger?
Yes. Sorry about that. They looked plenty big in the editor. Not so much on RUclips, though.
@@FlyingMAir >>> FWIW: I usually watch RUclips on my smartphone, versus the larger screen on my laptop.
Great visibility, thanks for the narration (I know it adds to your workload) and taking us along, Maria. I love the view you get from the helicopter!
Just found this channel, nice flying! really nice camera placement too, great views!
I love these videos, actually feels like your riding along with the lady.! I love the way you explain everything to! 🙂
Lovely calm matter of fact narration, amazing scenery and clearly a great pilot - enjoy your videos :-).
Fly inverted and cut the grass. JK.
Why does this seem so incredibly easier than flying any of the helos in DCS?
I guess thats because you can`t feel what you doing. And... it isn`t easy... ;-)
You just make flying look so effortless and enjoyable. Love your videos!
Not only am I struck by your expert maneuvering that bird, I’m in awe of the scenery, the layout of the land, everything!
Nice great video good flight have a nice day
@FlyingMAir - Resubscribed: Thought you had retired (or something) - Glad to see you back, at any rate! I'll have to see what I've missed... Cheers-
Something... I need motivation. I’m a lot more motivated lately.
@@FlyingMAir - Good to hear that you're more motivated, lately. Let us know if/when we can help. Pretty much, watching you do what you do (esp. with the whirly-bird) - I suppose we're a bit simplistic, that way - Open to additional facets of your life, as well - if you wanted to venture there. Best regards and, thanks for the personal response - Also, trying to plan a Wenatchee trip out of Naches, before the fall - We'll see what comes of that. Cheers-
Came for the start up, stayed for the views. Simply captivating
Why is the cabin shudderi.....
"...got a little bit of a wobble cause I'm kinda parked on uneven terrain...."
Oh! Thank you!
I love the split picture quite a lot!! Excellent video, as always!! I also enjoy the text in the video, as well; adds something positive to your video....and your narrative is always excellent. I love flying with you, thanks for having us along the way!! How often do you drive your car??
I drive my road vehicles a lot more than I fly. 😔
Living the dream. Great video
Probably a silly question, but I have no idea. How do you get your helicopter to a place to store? Doesn’t have wheels to just taxi it somewhere. Seems like you’re at the mercy of you propellor span where you can safely park it.
Ground handling wheels that attach to the skids. I also have a platform that I land on that can be pulled into my garage.
Is that...Wenatchee? I live in Yakima so I immediately recognized it!
Yes.
You could've waved at my mom as you flew over her house lol
Gday Maria,
Very interesting! Loved the technical side of the start up. Nice view from the office you have there.
Cheers
All my flying as a passenger was with extremely skilled British military pilots and you engender the same confidence. Huge pleasure to watch you work. As with any true professional :)
Professional and very well explained. You did an outstanding job. If I was to start taking lessons on how to fly a helicopter now, I would be a little more confident about it after this video. Everything seemed very interesting. Maybe I'll be flying a helicopter one day in the future. Thank you! You just earned another subscriber.
Bonjour de France ! Magnifique vol, très beaux paysages, très bien filmé ! Merci !
Video was very good, loved the view. It really does look and feel like I'm sitting in the seat next to you, flying, except for not feeling the vibration.
Love your videos! Fascinating. Have you ever considered leaving a camera on the ground to show your flying skills alongside your internal views and narration? Especially when you're cherry drying. Would love to see how close you get to the trees etc.
I think I need a film crew!
@@FlyingMAir lol nah. You could drop off a Gopro on a tripod nearby, or ask one of your customers. Just would love to watch it third-person too. Such skill.
Great flight. As a drone pilot I must ask, you looked like you were below 400ft. I recognise you were very close to an airport and drones should not be flying there. Do you have any concerns about drones and/or have you had any encounters? Thanks! A new sub too!!
Yeah. I have plenty of concerns about drones. I’m allowed to fly as low as 300 feet on charter flights and even lower on other flights. Not happy to be sharing airspace with (often untrained) drone pilots. No encounters yet, fortunately. Fly that thing safely and keep an eye out for helicopters!
@@FlyingMAir I always do and I only fly VLOS. Stay safe!
What a landscape, wow.
Very fascinating! So informative, I had no idea how all of that worked. And beautiful views! Thank you 👏👏😊
Superb ! Greetings from France
Nice video 😀
always a pleasure to 'virtualy' fly with you...
love the videos, keep them coming!
What a brilliant video ! Thank you for sharing with us.
Eastern Washington state? Beautiful country.
Yes. Wenatchee area.
Who are you screaming "CLEAR!" to?
Is that something you have to scream each time you go through the start-up process?
LOL. That’s a good habit I got into. It’s actually on the checklist. You never know when someone might be behind you. 🤷🏻♀️
Beautiful shot of your helicopter with the mountains in the background! 😊
What I find amazing about this video is that your total flight time was less than four minutes. But if you were to DRIVE between those two points it would probably take 30 minutes to an hour or more. You would have to find a bridge to cross that river.
It’s actually closer to 40 minutes. It takes 20 minutes just to get to the bridge.
Interestingly, a lot of the commenters here don’t understand the simple fact that I was commuting to work in this video and I use the helicopter for work. So driving there would have been kind of silly. I should probably add this to the description.
@@FlyingMAir watching this brings out the inner child screaming in that whiny tone: "I wanna go!!!"
I dont put the headset on until i cleared the area the first time...
Fantastic job in explaining startup and take-off in a confined area. Your presentation manner is great and it just feels like I'm flying with a good friend. I miss my Jetranger flying very much, so your videos are the next best thing! Could you maybe discuss a bit more bout the R44 and it's flying requirements in some of your videos? Having only flown turbines, I'd love to know more about how the piston engines perform and governors operate, etc. Keep up the good work and you have a new subscriber from Australia. Happy flying!
I’ll see what I can do.
Thank you for this. Your a great teacher and should do more of these type videos!
Working on it.
Very interesting. I would quite like to understand more about what you are thinking about, looking for, worry about and such. I don't think too much about driving a car, mostly thinking about the situation now and in the next few seconds, does it become like that?
With a lot of flight time, it gets exactly like driving a car.
Great video. I love the 4 minutes commute. I am assuming you’re using the R44 as a commercial pilot.
Yes, indeed.
ive always loved simulators and spent hours watching my granddad play Microsoft flight as a kid before i understood it how hard/expensive would you say it is to get yourself into a career of flying ive been soo sick of just the daily grind of everything and every time i whatch a video of people flying things i find a feeling of admiration and i wouldn't say jealousy but more of a wish that i could have the ability to do something like that within my lifetime and i just feel like this would be the perfect place for me what im interested in also any advice you would have in getting started would be amazing
loved the video great explanation of everything going on and the process behind it

Not my business but probably goes without saying, save every nickel and dime. Forego the Starbucks coffee and make it at home. Wait and see movies when they come out on TV. Cut costs as you plan your future because an aero education is expensive and costs only go up. Save save save!
The expert lady here and other pilots can tell you what to do, but I know you have to have a little money. And read. Read everything about flying you can get your hands on. Talk to pilots. Network!
You'd be surprised how much money you can save by cutting out a lot of little extras like this. I turned off cable TV and my land lines and saved over $1,500/year. Coffee at home instead of Starbucks? That can save $4-5 per day. Multiply that by 5 days a week and 50 weeks a year and that really adds up.
So cool! I've seen some of your videos before. Subscribed today. Thanks for posting!
Brilliant video where do you fly it looks so beautiful I was in the us last week in Yellowstone and that was also fantastic. More videos please X
What beautiful terrain.
Thanks for another beautiful video! I know that helicopter flight for you is humdrum Almost Boring! But to us the people that live on the ground we really enjoy looking at the Earth from a different perspective! If I may ask a question? Is it possible for you to take your GoPro and show the panels up close when you're about to start the engine so that we can see what you're talkin about. The only thing on the dash that I can really make out is the clutch light! LOL! Just for the startup once you get it started up you can remount it if you want. That would be most helpful. Also if you could do that after you land for the shutdown! Thank you for your wonderful motivation we are really enjoying it!
I need to do a proper startup video. I’ll adjust the camera angle for that.
Thank you that would be so nice!
Wow! Fantastic, beautiful landing spot. Helicopters are absolutely amazing.
Very nice video and the countryside is amazing! Regards from Thailand.
Great video, I really enjoyed hearing the startup!
Olá, que prazer ver você pilotando um helecoptero e apreciando às belas paisagens!! Abraços!!
Have you ever flown any fixed-wing aircraft?
Nope.
@@FlyingMAir >>> Just _fling-wings,_ eh?

Ive watched you dry quite a few orchards, chopper life!
Nice smooth flight. Thanks. We’d ride with you anytime Maria.
I don’t know but this makes me feel have a whiskey 🥃
Thanks for the video! Keep them coming.
Great videos, love your content! Keep it up!
That's so cool. Beautiful country. Does it ever get old? Don't worry about strange noises from the rear. I have that all the time. I just ignore it.
Yeah, some of the work - cherry drying comes to mind - does get old. But flying really doesn’t. As for those noises - LOL.
Great flight. I was wondering with your CO2 alarm triggering and you say there is nothing wrong with the exhaust could it maybe just the weather striping around the doors or something like that?
again, a nice video :) it would be nice, if you could scale the annotations in te video a bit up, and move them a tad higher, so they dont get blocked by the youtube-statusbar, when the video is stopped. (speaking for the visually impaired kind of people, we need a bit more time to read stuff ;) )
You are absolutely right. It looked big enough in editing on a 27 inch monitor, but tiny on my iPad just now. Must be awful on a phone. I’ll definitely get it better next time. Thanks!
