    Great video. I'll tell you my method for turkey tail alcohol extraction. I clean the mushrooms, trim where attached to the log, pop into a high speed blender with some chicken stock and a shot of white wine or sherry. Blend for about a minute, toss in a pot and thicken at a slow boil. Add some heavy cream and whatever else you want and you'll have the best cream of mushroom soup ever. I know they are medicinal but they work great blended into soup. Their flavor is very similar to oyster mushrooms- mild and pleasant- not woody or fibrous at all. You don't need to blend 100%. The bits that don't get blended become soft. I collect a bunch in July- clean, dry and toss in the pantry. I pull out whenever I want a quick bowl of great tasting soup.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  6 лет назад +3

      Keith - Very cool... I've always utilized this mushroom in tincture. You mentioned the taste is a little like oysters... Does it have that almond flavor? Thanks

    • @keith4596
      @keith4596 6 лет назад +16

      I know what you mean about the oysters having a slight almond taste and I wouldn't say the turkey tail has that same flavor- just very mild. The first time I decided to try turkey tail was when I felt a cold coming on. I didn't want to wait for the tincture so I just threw in the blender with some chicken stock, blended and cooked. I remember thinking it was going to be horribly bitter and probably chalky like an old chicken of the woods. But after I drank some, all I could think was,"wow this is pretty good!". So now it's my go to for a quick mushroom stock or soup.

    boil the strained mushrooms in water, strain again, and then simmer until very little liquid is left, then combine with alcoholic tincture = dual extraction tincture

      when you say combine with Alcohol tincture. your taking the mushrooms and covering with alcohol not a premade tincture ?

  • @theforestgardener4011
    @theforestgardener4011 4 года назад +26

    Great video, I like how you crushed it up before hand. I put my mushrooms in whole but will now go back and blend them up! Then only way you could improve on this recipe is after the alcohol extract is done, simmering the leftover crushed mushroom in hot water for a few hours, about the same volume of water than the alcohol. Then you can blend the water into the alcohol making a double extract. It also ensures you are keeping the final tincture about 30% alcohol which maximizes shelf life. Too high of alcohol can degrade the medicinal compounds.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  4 года назад +11

      Yes a dual extraction is best... thanks for the tip... 30% alcohol increases shelf life, I was not aware. I've done dual extraction many times and did not realize I was increasing the shelf life. Thanks again for the info and thanks for watching! Happy hunting to ya!

I was wondering if a coffee filter in one of those small single cup serving gizmos wouldn't work. I'll try it and let you know. I found Turkey Tail in my local area. I have dried and stored them in a jar. I make tea with them and add lemon grass and honey. I love your way of preserving. In Australia we are lucky to 60% alcohol, higher amounts are illegal. Can you use lower percentage and get the same results. Cheers, great video.

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  2 года назад

      Thanks! If you can get vodka... 40% alcohol should work. I realize that's only 80 proof however you could let the mushrooms marinate longer... let's say 8 to 10 weeks before you strain. So yes it will still work... it just takes longer. The reverse is true too. The higher the proof the less time it needs. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! Happy hunting to ya!

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  Год назад

      Thanks! A dual extraction will give you the best of both worlds. The simple answer is... The video you just watched is for anti-inflammatory... a tea or decoction is more of an immune system modular. Now, there are many more health benefits, and I would encourage you to check in to all the wonderful things this mushroom has to offer. Dose: I will take 6ml under the tongue once or twice a day, depending on how I feel. Usually, I don't take it longer than a week or two. Remember, this is what I do, and each person is a little different. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!!

    • @WildMeatLetsEat
      @WildMeatLetsEat  Год назад +1

      Technically, you can harvest the small ones. However, I would use extreme caution... when trying to identify a wild mushroom, it's best to wait until full maturity to ensure that all the key features are visible. Otherwise, you could run the risk of making a harmful decision. So I would recommend only mature ones. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!!!

      When you use the double boiler and reduce cannabis flower with Ever Clear, you are making Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO!
      Let it get to about 160 degrees, but not much more, and dont reduce it too much, as it will reduce to a heavy tarr,
      But It has to get above 155 to release the wonderful Oils though.
      Mix the reduced portion about 1 part RSO with about 4 parts Coconut Oil, and store in the brown dripper bottles.
      It greatly reduces my back pain (especially helpful to get to sleep), when my wife rubbs it on my lumbar, and provides several hours of Relief!
      Be Very Careful if added to coffee, and Do Not Drive or operate Machinery, as you Will need to go to bed if you use a big drop!!
      And if you are subject to drug test, you will Fail.
      This is why Big Pharma lobbies CONNgress to keep it, and Many other homeopathic Natural medical remedies illegal.
      Be Careful until you learn the amount that provides the Relief you need.
      May God Bless you with the Benefits of the plants he Created, for our short life in this realm.
      Peace!!
