I have a 2008 W204 and think I might be having this issue. How do I tell, without removing the hose, if it has gone bad? Can you feel it by touch, like you "feel" an old radiator hose cracking from inside when you squeeze it?
@@AHMaquiladores the only way you can tell is by using a manifold gauge set like I demonstrated in the video. You will see the readings are not normal.
Nicoya -Great video. One question - I noticed that the freon can during your refill was upside down. Most cans say to keep upright. Were you using something different or do you have a better technique. I rely on guys like you to help DIY guys like me. Thanks in advance of a response.
All manuals tell you to have the can in vapor mode (right side up). However, I hold it upside down to speed up the process of getting freon into the system. Large amounts of freon in liquid form can possibly damage the compressor, so I'm adding small amounts. I have never had any issues with this method myself.

Nicola, hi there I have a 2012 GL 550 I wasn’t able to get any cold air so I brought it to a AC mechanic and so far he has changed my compressor 6 weeks ago. The air was cold only for a day then I brought it back to him. Then he told me the fan was only working intermittently so he said I need a new fan. I bought a fan and he installed it. The air was again cold for a day. I brought it back to him and he crawled under the car and said he found the discharge hose line to be leaking. He ordered a new discharge line and installed. Once again the air worked only that day. Do you think this suction hose line to the compressor could be my issue?? Thanks for the video and answering my questions sir.
Sounds like you need a new mechanic. The issue with the hose in this video is that it would never work well. It would not be a intermitten problem. You just need a better mechanic to find and isolate your problem and stop throwing parts at it.
Right now finding a new mechanic is not an option because my vehicle needs to be fixed and he has the car at his shop. I am waiting for him to call me and tell me what he thinks is the problem now.
This is very interesting, I have an intermittent AC issue with my 2009 c300 (w204). AC works great until it's hot outside (93f or above) and the car been parked under the sun for sometime then it just blow hot air and it doesn't command radiator fan to work faster, once the fan runs fast everything works great. If parked under the shade for like 30 minutes after that it works again 90% of the time. Any idea on what direction to look for? Thank you.
Try using a bi directional scanner. See if you can control the fan to go to 100%. Other than that I would probably suspect the fan itself. That definitely sounds like one of those tricky problems.
Great video, I see my 07 C230 is on that list as well, but mine has a weird problem where it would blow hot air on the passenger side at the same time cold air on the driver side, will look at that hose.
Hi, Thank you for your video I have ML 300 Cdi and having an issue with Ac. When it is hot, it is fine. But, for cooling. Left side is cooler than right which lasts only a minute and starts getting warmer. I have tried to top up ac But, mechanic guy said, it could be compressor which i belive that should be last thing yo be replaced as it may be smaller problem. Do you have any recommendation plz? Thanks
Taken my Mercedes A class for a a/c top up, but they say I have a leak in the system, have completely checked the system and I can see no leak, if the hose has collapsed would this show on air con dials the same as if the system has a air con leak?
No, the readings would be different. The collasped hose would strictly be a performance issue. Showing a high reading on the low side. While a leak would just show up as low readings.
Ii have 2003 e320 base model for a while the ac sometimes works fine and sometimes doesn't, until last year suddenly stop working im not to good on ac but i been changing the compressors on my other cars on i connect the gauges but i don't remember the readings only what i remember is the car dont take no more freon and also i notice that the system has freon because the freon came out of the hoses and i press the valve and freon came out so that make me think that i have this problem with this hose. So maybe is very common with this cars, i have also gl550 2010 i owne this vehicle for the last past 6 years and after 1 year compressor stop working so i replace the common do the vacuum and wait for leaks and after 2 hours looks like everything was fine y recharge the system and works but after 1 year maybe start with the same issues like the e320 especially when is very hot the ac don't want to work properly, other this i notice is when i driving or i stop if i flooring the engine over 2500 or 3000 rpm the ac start working so my question is on both cars is possible tha i have the same problem
Mine also not cold and went to mechanic he sort of cleared the entire system through a machine and then vacuumed system..added 6 bottles of oil and refrigerant.. now it's cold.. does it mean the problem is settled or might be some kind of leakage??
Very impressive discovery about the collapsed hose. Was the radiator fan running on high speed even when you start the car after an overnight park ( cold engine) at the time you had a high psi reading at the low side? That is what my fan is doing on 07 e350 4matic.
To be honest. I don't recall if the fan was running on high. But it was on. Just look at your manifold gauges. Do you have more than usual high reading on the low side?
Not on the manifold gauges but on my odb2 scanner it reads 116 psi when ac is running and 75 psi when ac is off. Scanner does not say if this is the low or high pressure line reading. In my case the ac is cold after adding a 12oz can of r134a. But the fan problem is a mystery that I’m trying to fix. I’m asking because someone suggested that a high pressure reading can trigger a fan running on full speed.

Just thought I'd ask. My 2000 c280s air quit being cold this year. Blows only warm. I checked the compressor plug and it is not getting power. A/c has a full charge. I checked the compressor wire and no breaks. Would you say maybe the evaporator sensor switch? I checked the three fuses none were blown.
Hi 2008 GL550 here, got a new compressor 1 year ago. do you think it's part of the routine to change this hose too? Now, AC sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Got vacuumed and recharged like 4 times in the past 2 months. Only 1.2 lbs R134a left while total should be 2.7 lbs. There should be a leak somewhere but one mechanic said it could be "hose saturation, not a leak" due to the expansion valve got stuck. They added dye bu quick looks did not find much (was traveling with a trailer). I'm new to this but the gauge readings seem not consistent. Sometimes it's 115 low and 200 high. sometimes it's 40 low and 125 high, etc. Can you point me to the right direction? Appreciate your help!
Sounds like you have a leak they have not found. "hose saturation, not a leak" That's a good one! Hose saturation is a leak. I would replace the hose in the video If you have one. If your pressures are still erratic I would try a new expansion valve.
@@InitechAuto thanks for your quick response. Yes I was planning to replace this hose and expansion valve. BTW I just checked the pressures again and now, static 100 low 85 high. I did get a recharge yesterday, and it worked for only 20 minutes. Is this an indication of a bad compressor? Or some sensor prevented the compressor to run?

@@InitechAuto thanks again. I was looking for a work around if possible though. AC will work fine for hours then suddenly blow warm air. it can stay in the warm air condition for a day or two sometimes longer, then, it will work fine (bone chillin).

What about W205 is this effect too. October 2016 model a/c compress just stopped hybrid model C Class

So you think he should replace this suction hose and see if that fixes the problem? Thanks again
Also what are the correct readings for the low and high side when the system is working properly.
Right now finding a new mechanic is not an option because my vehicle needs to be fixed and he has the car at his shop. I am waiting for him to call me and tell me what he thinks is the problem now.

my 2006 bmw 325i only blow out 70 degree air, nobody has been able to figure out what is causing it.

I never had to use it since I broke my coupler.
Mine also not cold and went to mechanic he sort of cleared the entire system through a machine and then vacuumed system..added 6 bottles of oil and refrigerant.. now it's cold.. does it mean the problem is settled or might be some kind of leakage??
During the evacuation and recharging of the system. The mechanic should’ve checked for leaks at that time.
Might this work on my 96 s420 i changed the blower regulator and ac still doesnt work if so do you know any place to but the replacement hose
Your car will not have this hose.
Very nice explanation and information, blessings..
To take the hose off do I empty the Freon from the system or just take it the hose off while the cars off
Freon must be removed.
Collapsed hoses are the worst frustrating when you discover it’s not the expansion valve. Or any other part.

Sometimes it's 115 low and 200 high. sometimes it's 40 low and 125 high, etc. Can you point me to the right direction? Appreciate your help!
