I think that to make this really useful they needed to allow having different shortcuts for programs in each desktop, pretty much like we do on the phone, until they figure out a way, then it'll be useful for a lot of people and will start changing the workflow in a big way with a huge user adoption

I was trying to figure out what people use multi desktops for vs. alt tab etc. and this did not disappoint. Perfect use case scenario for it, and def. going to use this is my recordings / demos!
There needs to be a way to “save” a virtual desktop so that you can easily restore it after a reboot. Otherwise, this feature becomes yet another way that Microsoft can’t up with to waste a bunch of your time (recreating your desktops after a reboot). Yes, having different desktops is like having multiple rooms in your house as the video presenter stated. But not making them persist through a reboot is like having to move all your furniture out of your house when u go to sleep, and then having to move all the furniture back when you wake up! You’d think Microsoft would address this since they keep pushing security updates that require a reboot! Or maybe they really are an evil corporation that relishes wasting your time?
It literally changed how I do demos. When we had Jeff Teper come on at Ignite 2017, he had so many individual demos (and he owns so many products) that we used 17 desktops in a 20-minute demo. It was flawless and 100% live.
3:12 I hadn’t considered opening a second copy of my slides on a different desktop. That would prevent the need to skip back two desktops from your demo to continue presenting. Nice.
Custom desktop backgrounds are a pretty good proxy for slides. I used to do this when multiple VMs were needed for desktop or server deployment demos. There's no CPU/RAM overhead vs. running PowerPoint in the VM.
How to run those multiple desktops in multiple montitors ? Like I want desktop 1 on my laptop and desktop2 on a monitor and i dont want desktop2 to open on both these screens when i open desktop 2 through my laptop.
It's not supported to split desktops by display or monitor. A desktop spans all connected displays. You may not need desktops to customize what you want to see per display.
I wouldn't say useless, but that would be a cool option. So would each need its own folder in the file system then? What would happen if you removed a desktop? Do you think this works for Desktops with files stored in them, or just app shortcuts like a phone? I don't think it works with files and most people store files in the desktop folder, aka on the desktop.

Yes, so aside from demos, I personally use them to compartmentalize work or specific projects. Also, a desktop devoted to non work content like music or browsers you might have open for holiday shopping for example is another great use. They are kind of like rooms.
The demo theme was about using Desktops for doing demos. So I started with what not to do (not using Desktops), then showed Desktops and how to build them as the solution. If you didn't make it past the first part of the demo, it would make no sense.
My multi desktop doesn't work properly in win11. When i switch to other desktop the same apps are open in the taskbar and when i open them it directly switches to the desktop in which it is open which should not happen it should not show the apps from any other desktop. Pls help me solve my problem.
You would need to open a second window of that app to stay in the same desktop. If you apply focus to an already open app, Windows will look for any existing open instances and switch you to that desktop by default. This is the same behavior in previous Windows versions.

There is a bug in my win 11 multi desktop as if I create a new desktop the apps that was open in desk 1 are still shown in the taskbar in desk2 and when I open any app in desk 2 its shows that app in desk 1's taskbar but when I open it from desk1 it switches to desk 2

4:50 I created around 100 virtual desktop to see the limit but now I am not able to close them when I click on task icon it refresh but cant give me option to close desktop. Now what can I do please someone help me out.

Multiple monitors works in the same way, all monitors are synchronized to each desktop as you move through them. The only thing that is different is moving the apps between monitors if you need to. When you hit Windows + Tab, the apps appear on each monitor.
I added another desktop, but whatever I do to one desktop, it is replicated in the other desktop. For example, in desktop 2, I changed the background, and that background was applied to both desktops. Kinda useless. I also agree with the other people commenting about the shortcuts. I want to create a work desktop with shortcuts for my work applications on that desktop, and not on my personal desktop. Until they allow that, this feature is useless to me.
Are you using Windows 11 and changing the image only? If you do theme change, it will change across Desktops, but image only should persist on each individual desktop
@@DeployJeremy background image only. I also tried to change the color of dialogs, but that impacted all desktops as well. I have decided that there is nothing about this ‘feature’ that I like.
@@CageyLeigh Sorry about that, I personally have never experienced these issues. I can say I use it daily especially for building and capturing demos, and it's been reliable. Is your PC enrolled into MDM or Active Directory and managed via Group Policy, CSP or similar? Maybe a policy is enforcing a desktop background?

Im fine with each desktop getting a folder. Why would I want a gaming desktop to have my work icons for example.
