What an extraordinary and brave man. I have similar kinds of feelings and would never dare even tell a close friend, let alone a crowd of strangers. He does very good work and is simply wonderful, bright and talented
I moved abroad about 6 years ago and was having a conversation with a friend I met in my new country. He's a bit of an Anglophile and knows lots about British comedy, music, TV etc. We got onto talking about how he learned lots of English through watching Q.I on RUclips when I asked him "who would be your country's equivalent of someone like a Stephen Fry?" He simply replied "there is no one like Stephen Fry. On any country on Earth. You could search the world high and low and you will never, ever find another."
I love Stephen Fry so much - very few people have given me so much pleasure (Saturday Night Fry and, a bit of fry and laurie, Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster , the audiobooks - to name just a few of my favorite things) without actual physical contact... But his frank and accurate description of his fight with depression makes me truly grateful. Many thanks to Richard for another amazing intreview!
I’m very grateful that Stephen moved through that dark period that I remember very clearly hearing about on a breaking news bulletin on the radio way back then and feeling so scared for him.....and speaking now from 2022, imagine the joy that we could have lost had he deprived the world of his warmth and comedy and knowledge that we’ve enjoyed these past few decades xxx He’s an international treasure, a legend, a warrior!
I think Stephen is very brave in talking about mental health so honestly. He's addressing a topic that is STILL seen as taboo in society and I think that's very noble.
I genuinely love Stephen Fry so much!! He's such a beautiful, funny and intelligent man!! And such an inspiration!! Thank you Stephen for continuing to break stigmas! He doesn't need an act because he has so many stories and a wealth of interesting knowledge!!
My dad was walking his dog over at the grounds of Norwich Airport and bumped into Stephen Fry. "What a magnificent creature" Stephen said towards the dog (not towards my dad) That's it. A great story I think you'll agree.
it ok but would been better if he meant your dad. Or if he'd done a innuendo like "thats a magnificent creature... the dogs not bad either" maybe bookended with an "oooh, pardon" and a mince
Much respect to stephen fry for speaking so frank about bipolar and how it affects him in black and white. My mum suffers from it and it has affected her life in a horrible way, it really is a horrific condition if not treated correctly. What I must say though is some of the mental health treatment I've seen is just totally shit, it's embarrassing how mental health is still treated and stigmatized even in 2015.
Either Richard Herring is getting to be a better interviewer every time I see a new podcast, (which is unlikely since I'm watching out-of-sequence) or I've misjudged him terribly. xx SF
Superb interview. Stephen Fry really is a legend and very open about his mental health. Very difficult not to get emotional listening to him explain his condition. Lots of respect to him ❤
What two genuinely lovely, funny and talented human beings. I've shared on Facebook and Twitter (to my six followers) hoping at least one more person watches and does the same. Hail King Fry
I'm a yank , and recently got back into Brit entertainment , I grew up with the Pythons and The goodies . During lock down came back to all your wonderful actors and comedians ...Your Game / Panel shows are tops . QI is awesome and I love Stephen Fry
I doubt Stephen will ever see this but I saw one of your documentary where you talked openly about being BiPolar and it was seeing you, a man who I admire greatly talking about being BiPolar that gave me the courage to talk about myself being BiPolar openly with friends and colleagues.
If you haven't seen it, I'd really recommend pub walks with Bill Bailey. It's very cathartic and the premise is about speaking openly about mental health
It's lovely (and a bit weird) that I feel so attached to a comedian's work that I feel guilty for not congratulating him on the birth of his child. All the best to you and your family Rich, from a fan since the days of Fist of Fun.
absolutely enchanted with his little creation, and the idea of being a ''father''...what a lucky kid! and we're almost as lucky to get the Stephen Fry show!....Thanks sharing Mr. Herring! thanks for putting something good on the wwweb.
"The Prince Albert piercing is named after Prince Albert who was the husband of Queen Victoria of England. He was reputed to have had this piercing done prior to his marriage to the queen around 1825"
I know what he means regarding asking friends. Friendship is another form of social pressure which (to me) leaves me with a feeling of obligation, more pain.
RHLSTP! Thanks for the content Rich - its a fantastic show. Definitely not looking like a £100 pound haircut this week. We're safe from the evil random comments. Aren't we?
stephen fry is a dam amusing genius amazing interview, excellent inappropriate extraction of facts, but more importantly i love the Adams family pinball i miss that pinball machine Britannia pub in lancing had one not sure why i'm sharing this with the world, still there you go
Richard doesn't half come off as bitter about anyone that's more successful than himself! I know he tries to do it jokingly but I think there's some real resentment. I love the podcast though, be happy with what you've got!
i really enjoy these podcasts great interviews with great guests. richard is a really likable and funny guy and should definitively be on tv all the time. having watched almost all rhlstp now this is the only thing that bugged me a little what i really don´t get is where mr. herring gets this idea that everything would be different regarding time travel scenarios. if you go back in time and do nothing at all not even stepping on a butterfly or anything, everything could be different but it doesn´t have to be. the probabilities of anything happening to anything wouldn´t change unless you influence them in a major way. the probabilities would play out the same way or not. if for example the probability of the third reich happening was a big number it probably would happen again if it was a low number it probably wouldn´t. i´d say the probability of richard beeing even more famous as he rightly deserves imo are pretty high say about 85% so if you play out that scenario again you probably would be. all i´m saying is in time travel you can allow much greater freedom than you do.
just watch till the end... : ) Lets try harder to understand.. Its tough as fuck. I know, I live with it, Peace be with you all......Funny as hell though, great post.
What a great series - Does anyone know if Richards' interviewed Graham Lineham? I find it hard to see who's being interviewed because RUclips foreshortens (is that right??) the names to 'Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre...' when viewing thumbnails!
Phone??? I have a laptop not a phone. And how exactly am I meant to see the internet on a phone?! With a little screen built into the handset I suppose... And a modem that I carry around with me?? And a mini keyboard? Sir, this isn't The Jetsons.
If Stephen Fry and I were friends we would have such fun. I'd be so intrueged and enthralled by his conversation, and he'll be beguiled by my silly quirky sense of humour and he'll think my simpleton ways endearing and enjoy having me around. I feel sorry for him in some ways that we don't frequent the same circles... yet.
Fry's cue was actually his own line saying "Play it, bitch!" so actually he can sing at any time in any place.. he just needs to be rude to a pianist to prompt it
I could listen to Stephen talk all day. He is full of knowledge and stories
Richard actually kept quiet. Very respectful. Class
Such an open and honest guy. I could listen to him talk all day.

Great interview, Richard. Very courageous of Stephen to speak so forthrightly about his situation.
Exactly! His personality is his 'act' 😊
My dad was walking his dog over at the grounds of Norwich Airport and bumped into Stephen Fry. "What a magnificent creature" Stephen said towards the dog (not towards my dad)

WOOOPdoctorFROGhere and maybe a few Robin Askwith styled 'PHWOOOARS' as my father walked away from him accompanied by a penny whistle sound effect.
I suppose if he were a homosexual he would have done all of the above

Haha very partridge-esque

Completely agree with everything you've said!!
It's just mad isn't it
@@markstevenson1646 Ha!
Psychedelic shrooms are on the way.
They are being trialled everywhere atm, I hope whoever needs them gets them.
The more I see of these, the more I realise how fantastic an interviewer Richard Herring is.
Either Richard Herring is getting to be a better interviewer every time I see a new podcast, (which is unlikely since I'm watching out-of-sequence) or I've misjudged him terribly. xx SF
He is definitely an acquired taste. No offence intended to Rich of course.
Superb interview. Stephen Fry really is a legend and very open about his mental health. Very difficult not to get emotional listening to him explain his condition. Lots of respect to him ❤
Fascinating, entertaining and very moving and touching. Such a lovely man. His honesty is very brave and hopefully helpful to many.
Loved all of this! He is a wonder and I am so grateful we have him on planet earth. So articulate and humble.
Stephen Fry you are a beautiful man. In every way. The thought of you not wanting to live makes me cry.
Stephen Fry.....complete and utter Legend. One of the cleverest and funniest people alive.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE SO LONG!
My lovely Stephen, every show with him is a miracle ^^
Just seeing Stephen Fry puts a smile on my face, he's the only celebrity that I would cry over if I outlived them!
What two genuinely lovely, funny and talented human beings.
I've shared on Facebook and Twitter (to my six followers) hoping at least one more person watches and does the same.
Hail King Fry
One of my all time greatest heroes. We love you, Mr Fry
I'm a yank , and recently got back into Brit entertainment , I grew up with the Pythons and The goodies . During lock down came back to all your wonderful actors and comedians ...Your Game / Panel shows are tops . QI is awesome and I love Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry my favourite human being of all time
nice to see Mr Fry in a more relaxed mode, really enjoyed it
I doubt Stephen will ever see this but I saw one of your documentary where you talked openly about being BiPolar and it was seeing you, a man who I admire greatly talking about being BiPolar that gave me the courage to talk about myself being BiPolar openly with friends and colleagues.
He also shared being manic depressive before bi-polar became a thing.
I hope that you and Stephen (and others) are doing fine.
If you haven't seen it, I'd really recommend pub walks with Bill Bailey. It's very cathartic and the premise is about speaking openly about mental health
The Fry documentary about bipolar is very good
Richard, thank you for these, they are excellent and deserve to be on the TV.
I love this man. Credit to Richard for letting him talk as well.
It's lovely (and a bit weird) that I feel so attached to a comedian's work that I feel guilty for not congratulating him on the birth of his child.
All the best to you and your family Rich, from a fan since the days of Fist of Fun.
Oliver King you can't even drive
Stephen Fry doing an impression of David Mitchell made my entire life worth living
Give the time when this occurred.

His take on The Rik is pretty good too.
38:29 Pretty good Walter Mathau as well.
@@MrExEssex didn't you bother to watch it?
If you or any of your close family members suffer from any kind of mood disorder, please listen to Stephen talk from @1:25:35
What a beautiful poetic way of speaking Stephen has. Love the man.
Loved this! Stephen Fry is one of my favorite people. I could listen to him talk for hours.
I've been binge watching my way through a particularly nasty hangover with these vids the last two days mate, needed the laugh, thanks a lot ;)

Stephen Fry is a legend.
As they say in Eastern Europe,
Stephen Fry tonight; Turkish Delight
I love how when Stephen says yes or is pleased he normally says yum ☺️
Stephen Fry,makes me glad to be alive
Such a beautiful mind, love Stephen Fry, a true gentle soul.
Awesome that he knows A Sound Of Thunder by Ray Bradbury - amazing short story
nobody else can naturally use the word 'beastly' to such effect.
I know that darkness... It's something I wouldn't wish on ANYONE. Love Stephen Fry!
Hope you're Ok, and getting the appropriate help.
revisiting for around the fourth or fifth time
I would watch The Muppets' version of Twelfth Night.
MrKaywyn Me too!

One of your finest podcasts certainly!
Anyone else watch this at least once a year?
I loved listening to this. So calming and fascinating and amusing!
Thank you gentlemen.
I love Stephen Fry's books. I hope he writes more
I know what he means regarding asking friends. Friendship is another form of social pressure which (to me) leaves me with a feeling of obligation, more pain.
I guess this might seem a bit odd, but this raised my estimation of Stephen Fry no end, and for so many reasons.
RHLSTP! Thanks for the content Rich - its a fantastic show. Definitely not looking like a £100 pound haircut this week. We're safe from the evil random comments. Aren't we?
Great shows
38:27 He does a surprisingly good Walter Matthau impression
I've just discovered this series Richard. I'm a relatively new fan of yours but I thought this interview was fantastic! Thank you!
Rich would be great on QI. The points don't matter.
I've just noticed that Richard Herring isn't a fish he's actually some sort of crustacean
He's certainly crusty!
Fry on top form.
very enjoyable....thanks
"Like the job the queen used to have" She still does that dude 😂
Brilliant ❤️
That nuclear physicist is in every bloody podcast haha. I respect his commitment.

WONDERFUL!
I loved this and Stephens recollections of the Hobbit!! Totally summed up all 3 of the Shi*e films from the Hobbit, #fkhollywoodatlast.
It's actually not all set in the Shire...
Whenever I hear woof.great memories
I really fucking love Stephen Fry.
Lots of cuts in thus one. Makes me SO curious what had to be taken out.
I used to play Addams Family pinball at Butlins in Pwllheli in the early 90s, did anyone else?
Legend.
when steve spoke about his mental illness, i thought of the classic line, "it's like i have a twin!"
Richard doesn't half come off as bitter about anyone that's more successful than himself! I know he tries to do it jokingly but I think there's some real resentment. I love the podcast though, be happy with what you've got!

He looks like one of my teachers but unfortunately my teacher is an absolute idiot and is incredibly strict. If only Stephen was my teacher.
Richard I'm sure you would find the super fame you deserve if you would only go by the name Dickie Herring.
Dick Her Ring is his porn name.
He's so loved. Stephen is too....aaàaahhhhh.
32:52 So Chris Chan wasn't the only person to call it that!?
Belated happies, Stephen.
Marvellous
intervie paul foot! also this was great
I loved Al Fresco. It's on RUclips btw and it's better than Fry gives credit for
Why can I not find this podcast with David Mitchell on RUclips?
It wasn't filmed. You need to go to iTunes or British comedy guide. Or wait for the 2nd interview in series 8
+Richard Herring Really appreciate you taking the time to reply yourself on all these videos. Breath of fresh air.
