Mr Fry, you're a treasure! I could listen to you endlessly! Thank you for pronouncing the name of the Polish city so correctly! That shows the respect. I'm in debt to you for all emotions you've delivered to me over the years.
I've had tea and crumpets with him, and I can attest to his civility! (well, truthfully, it was a North American brunch, but it's the thought that counts.)
I’ve adored Mr. Fry since A Bit of Fry and Laurie, but was off him for years after his series on America. I watched with keen delight as he invariably came across the most engaging treasures in every state, savoring each with his sparkling intelligence. A born and bred Coloradan, I couldn’t wait for what he found here. It turned out to be Aspen, which he loathed. I don’t think much of the place myself but was that all he thought we were? It was like being slapped across the face by a dear old friend. Still, it’s impossible to hold a grudge against so brilliantly generous a mind as this marvelous conversation proves.
Wonderful interview well done to you both, this is my first time with you and you have a new subscriber. Mr fry is an absolute treat I could listen to him on any topic, he is indeed a treasure. Looking forward to many of your other interviews. Oh please get him back again.
Maybe Stephen should have a special one-man delegation to the UN. They might get more done - or at least they would stop fighting and start laughing, listening and learning.
So delicious, Stephen pours out a magical chain of information and facts and ties them historically and I'll watch this at Least twice more to absorb his joyous fountain of literature and history and science and religion ~ and Pong❣️ 😄❣️❣️❣️❣️🖋️📚😘
You are sooooo right, Cathy. I never cease to be amazed by the breadth of Stephen's knowledge, but also the elegance and wit with which of spontaneously generates a bon- mot a minute! He is one of our true cultural treasures. I hope you'll share this podcast with friends and subscribe to The Gould Standard . . . further treasures await within!
Kia ora from Aotearoa. It is ever a pleasure to hear Stephen Fry. I always come away having learnt something new. So looking forward to the live show in Wellington in November. Oh and I can thoroughly recommend his Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and all four greek myth books - the latter so much that I'm going to have to also buy them in text so I can make notes. Having heard isolated stories as radio plays while a child, it is wonderful to hear how it all fits together in context. If I could wish anything it would have been that he had read my favourite author, the late great Sir Terry Pratchett.
Hi Kyle, thanks for this erudite feedback. Stephen's work is quite breathtaking in its scope, and I always say, "don't bet on Stephen's not having read your favourite book(s)" - it's a bet you're likely to lose! I would be surprised if he had not read at least some of the works of the late, lamented Sir Terry Pratchett. Of course, we can be sure that he has read "Good Omens."
Knowing Stephen has been a great joy. We are very fortunate that he's a long-standing admirer of Glenn Gould, both as a pianist, a thinker, and a fellow technophile. When Stephen agreed to serve as a juror for The Glenn Gould Prize (the Laureate was Leonard Cohen), I really felt as though we'd won the lottery. It is such a privilege for The Glenn Gould Foundation that Stephen has remained a good friend to our organization all these years. Thank you for your kind comments, and please do subscribe to The Gould Standard . . . tell your friends, too!
You're very welcome, Wayne! Thank you for watching. I hope you'll check out our other great Gould Standard conversations, tell your friends and subscribe!

Please forgive me, I meant Australia - REALLY I did. The curse of auto-correct (and my bad typing) strikes again. I know that nobody wears lederhosen and drndls in the Outback!!! My apologies!
In his autobiography he writes about being arrested as a 17 year old for credit card fraud, that happened in my home town of Swindon at the Wiltshire hotel, 5 minutes from where I live.
Spending time with Stephen is like going to the library - the knowledge and wisdom literature is all there, ready to enrich and inform, but not in an overbearing way . . . simply a wonderful resource to delight, enrich and enlighten . . .

I heartily agree. I would like to nominate Stephen Fry to be named a Living Global Treasure!
And he should've been knighted aoens ago!
@@MsFoland Is there a petition for such honours? I'll sign, even if we're from the Colonies!

Love Stephen fry .. beautiful human xx
wow that 80 minutes went by SO FAST! How excellent - thank you. Mr Fry gives me hope for the human species.
I've met many gifted, creative, smart people over the last half-century - none so kind as Mr. Fry. He puts the "humane" back in "human"
What a treasure Stephen Fry is. We are blessed 😊
Truly said!
Nice to see he kept the cricket on the telly during this interview. The mark of a civilized man.

The tv is also smaller than his bookshelf. A very important detail.

Love Stephen SO! MUCH! ❤❤❤
He is awfully lovable, isn't he?
I don't think polymath is even the right word... Stephen is just plainly a bloody treasure.
Seconded - motion carried.

How sweet thou art, dear Rachel, with thy honeyed words and keenness of ear . . .
Such a comforting man ,! Voice, knowledge, enthusiasm, humour, kind way of talking about people. ❤
In these uncivilized and disturbing times, it is reassuring to know that there are still people with this level of humanity, civility and kindness.
Why do we love him so much ,

I would give anything to chat with Stephen about AI, literature and Douglas Adams for just like....10 minutes.

This made me think of Nichols and May mocking pre-celebs who slather the names they drop with hubris.

We are getting a corpse farm in Australia too - I was relieved to find out it's not going to be anywhere near where I live!

'tis an adjective oft-times applied to the head of yours truly, but never to that of the esteemed Mr. Fry . . .
In his autobiography he writes about being arrested as a 17 year old for credit card fraud, that happened in my home town of Swindon at the Wiltshire hotel, 5 minutes from where I live.
