Just to give some hope; I volunteer at a local high school here in the UK running an after-school club. At least a third of the students that attend (non music related) are learning instruments and taking exams in them. The school also benefits from having a fantastic music teacher. But I do agree, creative subjects are as valuable as academic ones and need to be encouraged/funded more.

I couldn’t agree with you more.
Learning an instrument is so rewarding and long term brings happiness!

I totally agree, we are (unfortunatly myself included) expecting things to be quick and if it takes times we are thinking "Hey the others are doing that, I don't want to be left behind so maybe I should do this too". But that is so wrong, so actually I am trying more and more to just enjoy doing things at my own pace. Too bad, youngers are not educated / equiped to confront this changing world...

Yeah we’re instant gratification these days. They want to be proficient day one. And quit when it’s unattainable.

Exactly, it’s the journey not the destination. 😊
