  • In todays video we install some dust collection in our 2 car garage!
Beginners guide to installing 4" piping for your dust collection, the 4" piping is a popular and simple dust collection system. The 4" white PVC piping is fairly cheap when compared to other high end systems on the market.
I think the 4" system with PVC piping is adequate enough for a 1 person shop, however it will have its drawbacks and limitations.

Nice, but I would recommend using two 45 degree elbows separated by at least a foot of pipe in place of each 90 degree elbow for better air flow.

Great video, thank you for posting your install. Are you pleased with the system 7 months later and what might you do differently?

What were your thoughts on grounding the system? Some say you should, other say its not necessary. I'm about to start installing my dust collection would really like your thoughts on it.....thanks, Tony

      Hey Tony.
I referred to Stumpy Nubs when installing. But basically, for a small DC system like mine it really isn't necessary. The chance for a static explosion to happen is near impossible. The reason I've thought about it is to remove the static so I don't get shocked when I touch the flex hose. Since replacing my dewalt planer, I don't have that issue anymore either.

@@KlassenWoodworks Thanks for the quick reply. I watched a video yesterday from an electrician/woodworker who said the same thing. In a small shop it’s near impossible to have a disaster caused by static discharge. Thanks again.

You can add a continuous run of aluminum duct tape on the duct run back to a ground.

Okay I am installing my dust collection piping now, using 4” ABS. Where do I find those pipe clamps you are using? I have looked online for quite a while and I do not see anything matching a 4.5” O. D. Pipe? Some are available that say they will work for 4” pipe, but no dimensions given. Help?

Hey, great question! The wall hangers I used are from powertec and can be found on Amazon. Now, the 4 1/2" ABS does exceed the 4" diameter its designed for. I still used them, the plastic would bend slightly and you'd be left with a small gap between the wall and the hanger. Haven't had one break and they have a very solid hold on the pipe. The other option I did utilize was steel straping cut to size. Hope this helps. 👍

@@KlassenWoodworks okay thanks for that quick reply! I do wonder why places like Rockler seem to leave this need without any help or referral?! Seems odd. But thank you

Never seen them either before this gem I found on marketplace. For what it is, it's done very well! Thanks, glad I could help.
