Bob, You're a genius! I followed your instructions exactly as you stated them and it worked perfectly. I did all of the brackets with my hacksaw and got a pretty good workout. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this. Many thanks to you.
Great job! I knew you could do that but have not done it my self. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! We sell these hinges so this will help if someone asks how to do this.
the spring support with pressure really seems to add stability and smoothness when door is in travel mode. Closed position is now sturdy, and weather tight. Alone the energy savings paying me back for hinge cost was a great investment . The video was for anyone who wants these benefits, but does not think they qualify.
The video was for anyone who wants these benefits, but does not think they QUALIFY. ? ? ? I was originally told that Green Hinges would not work with Wayne Dalton doors. I believe what the maker meant was, they would not work with W/D in their present configuration. For a little additional effort on my part, I made use of Green Hinges, not cheap replacements. (metal in Wayne Dalton hinges is soft, and as seen in my video, some of my original W/D hinges were twisting and flexing ! Not the Green Hinges: they are much thicker metal as well as a much harder grade of steel . )
Thanks for the video bj. I have wanted to do this for some time and now see that it can be done. By your response to GDS I will look into replacing all the hinges. My door faces west and the wind makes for a noisy experience when working in the garage.
Thanks, I think this will quieten your door, it sure did both of mine (9ft. and 16ft.) I also upgraded with USA made xine nylon/ball bearing rollers ($22), @ amazon, and hinges were about $2.35 each @ mcoverheaddoor.com Upgraded my doors to better than original fit and feel with Green Hinge Bob
I hope you are still around youtube. I have the same configuration as you two WD doors 16 and 9 ft. I'm in the process of doing this and noticed that the wheel step up on #1 #2 and #3 Greenhinges are about 1/4 inch higher than the WD roller hinges. Meaning the roller on the new hinges are further out from the door ( Z axis) even when the spring loaded tube is compressed. Did this make a difference. I know that the tracks are non adjustable so before I cut the hinges I wanted to see if the slop in the rails covers that difference. I hope you understand what I'm saying and thanks for the video
Thanks Bob! Can you tell me what hinges I should buy to replace the middle ones? Great video!

@@bundabob Which hinge did you buy to replace the center ones that were 2.35 each? Do they sell it on amazon?
Curious if you needed to use #1, #2 and #3 center hinges for the respective panel (to match the Z height of the green hinge?)
Would love to do this to my WD but cutting that steel seems to be the problem for me without the right tools. Thx for the idea.

Sorry, I’m confused as to what wd hinges I need to replace. I have 9 hinges on my door as well. And I need to order what exactly?
Outside hinges get green hinges-center 3 need to be changed to regular #1 hinges . Cheap and avail everywhere.
One more comment...I used a 3/8" hardwood floor sample from Home Depot to put under my center hinges. It was rather easy.
glad it worked for you. also if you know people who have Amaar doors, i just did a post on converting them. They are lucky- direct bolt on for them !
Which hinge did you buy to replace the center ones that were 2.35 each? Do they sell it on amazon?
I got them at garage overhead door you can use any number 1 hinge from suppliers / I'm sure Amazon has them also
Do you need to get #1 hinges for all the centers? Or #1, #2, #3 to be used for each panel like the green hinge?@@bundabob
