      @@makeitworktech Hi, I would like to hear your opinion on a project that I am trying to tackle. I am going to pour concrete pathway/walkway from the street to my front door. It is around 45ft. I would like to put waterproof LED along the way, embedded in the concrete but facing up (the sky), not embedded on the side and facing the lawn. I am thinking to divide the path on sections and install every 18-24 inches a PIR and when someone steps on that section the pir would trigger the LED, stepping on the next section, next pir would be triggered on so on. Do you think I would need controller for every section or one controller would be enough considering that several pir could be working at the same time?
      Thank you in advance for your answer.

    For lowering current, i would use the WS2815 strips. 12V, individually addressable, and it brings the current down to about 1/3. They also allow for an LED to 'die' and the rest of the strip will still function. Also, there is no significant voltage drop along 5m strips, so you don't get color changes, like you do on long runs of 5V strips. So if you are doing longer runs, you cut down on current, and you need less power injection points. There is a higher idle current draw than other strips though. but i personally don't care about that, but it's something to consider.

    • @starmc26

      Idle power draw should not be a problem as in a decent setup there should be a relay cutting power to the strip unless the controller is on. Wled has support for such relay control.

    Awesome helpful video. What do you recommend for DIYers who are setting up LED Strips as main lighting source in ceiling with profiles built into the entire ceilings in long extended strips on entire ceiling space covering about 1000 square feet? Main question here is power source? Controller Source? And how to control individually or together as one? If I install a LED Strip all over my ceiling on the entire ceiling on every room and hallways how/what is the best way to setup from LED product, power product, and controller product.

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Год назад +1

      IF that is your main lighting, I'd use SK6812s or some 12V type strips. I would set them up as individual strips and then sync the controllers rather than all on one run, as power injection will become important.

    Question - I want an LED strip around my ceiling. The circumference is about 45-50 total. So...buying the LED strips you describe, how does WLED handle if you add additional LED strips daisy chained to cover a distance like that?

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Год назад

      If you solder strips together, you need to set the correct number of LEDs as I've shown in the video. You will probably need to inject power periodically because there is voltage drop along the strip.

    Govee's app allows you to address each led with a visual representation on the app of each light string. Is there anything like that with WLED? I bought of bunch of string lights and they have silly drawings that can scroll around. I want to use this to make a specific lights blink on and off. Their app worked great for that, but required you to connect the phone each time you turned it on to load the pattern. The prop I will be making needs to be portable and will have the power turn on and off often. Is there an option that will save your pattern and automatically start back up with it the next time it's turned on?

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Год назад

      There is "Peek" mode that allows you to see a visual representation of the light strip. There is also a way to break up the strip into segments, and control those individually. WLED will start back up with the same pattern it was turned off, but if power is completely disconnected it won't start back up that way. However, you can save presets so that you can quickly apply these effects after power is re-supplied.

      I'm not sure how many sk6812, but 2812b use 0.6 A per LED, so you can do the math. I did forget to mention voltage dropoff, which happens in 5V strips.

      2 x 5m x 60 led/m x 0.060 a/m = 36 Amp power supply. If you go smaller, you'll have to set the current limiter lower, and you wont get the full brightness (not always a problem). If you make the switch to WLED, they can only handle around 750 RGBW to 1500RGB LEDs per device. so putting them all on one device is out of the question. However, with Home assistant you actually want to have each Zone of LEDs on their own circuit due to the way the controls work with Syncing.
      The current configuration at my home has 7 for my kitchen, 4 in the backyard, 4 for Holiday lights, and 4 bedrooms. each of the Zones has it's own ESP32 and is setup to a Master Sync Controller that turns off and on Syncing for each zone of the house.
