Survivor Video: Justin (Xie/Cardena 11/25/22)

#ATCEMSMedics, Captain S. Xie and Medic C. Cadena (We missed Communications Medic K. Pena), got to reunite with a patient from 4-years ago!
Justin was suffering a brain stem bleed while at work at LASA HS. His only complaint that day was a “bad headache”. After being transported to Dell Seton, and having a seizure there, CAT scans revealed the brain stem bleed. After two brain surgeries and 15-days in MICU, he was discharged home on Thanksgiving!
After about a year of PT, OT, and vision therapy, Justin has pretty much resumed a normal life with only some visual deficits.
Every year on the anniversary of his stroke, Claire and Justin have been celebrating his “life-iversary” to celebrate his second chance on life! This year they got to meet the EMS crew.
And, guess what? They’re expecting a baby girl soon! How awesome is that?!?!
It was so good to reunite with the two of them, hear their story, share some of the missing pieces with them, and of course share some coffee and cookies!
