    Being called big isn't an insult in Kenya, its a sign of success/doing well in life. The Swahili word for a heavy person or big man is "Mzito" and when you hear that term its flattery (usually to make you part with something small or favour).

    Dear Richard, I've been enjoying your videos for a long time now! Very thorough. I will be using the SGR train next month. I have 1 big suitcase (probably too big for the overhead compartment). Where do they store large luggage on the train? Also, is your luggage safe ?

      Thanks for watching the channel. However, I'm really not the right person to ask for guidance regarding the SGR because I've only taken it once. Also, I indicated "Official Review" in the title because I thought that was funny. It kinda is 😂
      All I took with me on the SGR was 1 small bag which easily fit above so I have no context regarding storing large items. I recommend that you upgrade if that's in your budget where I would expect there to additional accommodations.

    The security checks being too extreme is tied to terrorist attacks happening in our country including in PSVs around the time the SGR came up. Hopefully over time it can just be a simple train ride as it was before with the old trains. The confiscation of alcohol just like some items on planes is a business idea the public accepted.

    a problem with the security? In 2013 Westgate mall was taken under siege, 71 people lost their lives.
    I won't even mention the Dusit D2 attack.
    If you come from the USA to Kenya and need to hire a vehicle for your own use, you'll have to drive on the left. Because that's how we do it here. You cant drive on the right because where you come from you drive on the right. My point is, whatever you see being done wherever you go and think "it's a little extra" well there's a really good reason why that is the case. Learn to accept these things!!!

    • @duncanelishama1990
      @duncanelishama1990 2 года назад

      Also, you can't complain about the economy class seating, this train as you might have noticed is quite long, the economy seats are created that way to get the most seats out of every carriage as possible. There is not enough space on either ends of the two railway stations to turn the train around, there has to be compromise, half of the seats will face the direction the train is going and half won't. This is better than the whole train facing the wrong direction. Keep in mind that the same train has to make a return trip to the other station. Sleeper trains all over Europe have people sharing cabins for more than 5 hours, some even have the same seats. We complain too much about things that don't really have the biggest impacts. I wanna meet new people on that 5 hour journey I have no problem with the F2F seats, and so do most Kenyans I know.
