I know this is a old video but spending a couple hundred dollars for them to do a dyno test, pressure test etc. will be 3 to 5 times more expensive than that if you go to a legit dealer
This video convinced me to buy an old truck 5 yrs ago. It played out exactly how he said it. Run it for 2 or 3 months and start replacing everything. Today Bumper to Bumper has been replaced. The truck repaired itself. Good Video.
Been watching your DAT Board videos for a while and have learned a lot from you about that. I've been driving someone else's trucks for 43 years and am sick and tired of all their new gadgets and gizmos that make noise or emit light (buzzers and indicators). I am convinced that the only way I can do it MY way is to DO it my way. I have been browsing and have found several decent-looking trucks for not a lot of money, comparatively. I look for the plain and sometimes overlooked units that have great potential, especially for an experienced driver wanting to be an owner-operator. Your suggestions regarding RigDig and MD Alignment will certainly be helpful. Thanks, Sammy. See you somewhere down the road.
Also blowby is compression that bypass the rings and goes into your crankcase. when your engine is idling it's the smoke that comes out of the vent tube
Bro i bought a 2006 freightliner for 15k at the beginning of the year i made over 200k gross in 8 months with it and I still got 6k trade in for it lol ... driving a 2015 Cascadia evolution now
I want to do that too. I'd be happy if I got 100k miles out of it. For that price just buy another one if it blows up and keep the old one for spare parts. Old Cummins n14 and 60 series detroit are built to last.
thanks for the video and knowledge. currently a company driver but saving that coin to buy a used truck. taking in as much info about used trucks as possible
got to remember one thing. if buying a truck from the used truck dealership. they paint frames and do a real good job detailing inside and out even paint shocks. so gets tricky
Damn!!!!! this quality solid info I certainly learned something new about dropping the landing gear pulling forward when getting loaded....how did I miss this video 👍🏾👍🏾
Most stuff I know. Thanks for teaching us about blow by. Also just hearing rhe engine sound is important . to hear whether the enfine is purring or throttling, wheezing, unsmooth revs, bad idle sounds. All a no go for me
Good video as always!!! Any good words thrown at a person for their betterment, is great, especially in the environment of today where many people are selfish and insane mainly, it's a damn good thing!!!
Man i just saved 25,000 cash and bought a super clean tandem dump well everything was great it had a little blow by . Well i bought it for 20,000 cash great deal . I got home changed the oil man it was nasty... Clean Oil and holy shit she started burning oil out the exaust ...... 1 gallon in 14hrs of non stop runnin .. Im all bummed out . I watched this and well you gave me hope lol im just gonna limp her around till i can get a inframe done i guess a gallon of oil dont cost much and after that i should be good . Ugh Anyways thanks im gonna have to subscribe .
Us Farmers but cheap, good trucks...They are out there...Auction time, big iron, purple wave...Fuck them 10,000 dollar month payments when ya can buy 5000 dollar trucks.......
Just watched your video on buying a used truck. I got alot of good info from you, it will help me alot. I like watching your videos, thanks again, brad from nh.
Buying an older truck makes sence, you put some money into it and get it road ready. Its all paid up and no payments. But most companies want recent model trucks...don't they. Every carrier i've read about wanting to hire O/O's are asking for recent model equipment.
before I bought any Cummins isx I would insist on pulling the top pan and checking the top set ....cams and rocker arms is where all their problems start and Cummins parts are expensive
Buying a used truck is a massive gamble, especially if you don’t know it’s history. And for $7000 that doesn’t buy much. Heck it doesn’t buy you much of a 4-wheeler either. But good luck and make sure you have a good cash reserve, for the inevitable repairs. Yes, I’ve been down that road and it hurts
I would of bought it and I'm not a trucker. (Grant it I don't know much about rigs). I do hot shot in a pick up and make enough to buy that and turn it over and make a buck. I've done that with other pick ups, buy cheap good body trucks, flip'em, build flat bed on the back, pipe rack, sell'em for a decent buck.
i say get a truck thats going to give you a few years without major break down .That being said we know you have to spend about 60 to 70k ,at least in the east coast .There is always a chance even if you buy a brand new one .My truck is a good runner after my delete but my next one needs to be a mechanical glider n14 or a cat.On that note good video man u give some honest advice .
Bruh i did what you said and got a dyno by dd and free inspect and that truck had more problems then a president I'm now going to look a fleet out of trucks that's upgrading there trucks and getting Rid of there old boys (wish me luck) ;)
I was looking at buying an 03 Volvo with cummins. when i went to test drive it. truck woudnt start. dude was embarrassed that he couldn't get it to start. so i saw an 2000 fld all the way in the back. truck started right up and it was cold outside.truck didnt smoke and sounded good. had my mechanic check it out and told me to jump on it.bought it for 9,000. only thing I did was oil change and truck is making money.
vincent jarvey knew I was missing something... can you lend me the shirt? Any time you buy a 2nd/3rd gen carcass tire like a firestone or Dayton. They are what I call a virgin recap
@@MakeCentsTrucking true if you can keep up on your DPF, EGR,DEF and all the problems they cause like heat spots, drivability issues and no matter what they won't last as long. You can run them. If you have to ☹️
Hello , I'm in Greensboro GA , bought 93 international 8100 , with l-10 Cummings . Got my CDL A year and a half ago . Do not know where to go to start working. Could you point me in the right direction to get started ?
Easy to DzEDTROY your mvr in your 1st year. Would be recommended to team with an experienced driver for whatever the pay but stay away from the HUGEST companies who only care ab. numbers. I'd see if CRETE would put you on as after speaking with a 20 year plus trainer of theirs, in his words after a couple to 6 months his co-drivers drove like a 20 year vet themselves. Good luck on it!
Good video but Blowby is not the oil passing the rings, its the fuel during the combustion stroke blowing past the rings into the crankcase and venting out the PCV. All Diesels have blowby, alot of compression in them engines too.
True, but if your loosing to much oil with no leaks, same concept. Its going out your exhaust lol May have another name, either way its still a good indictor for a healthy engine
I've always loved working on things, mainly because I didnt have the money to hire someone lol .When I bought my first truck I started reading all I could about repairing them. Mainly on youtube and Rawze.com.
I’m going to be buying a cheap truck soon, I’m looking at Detroit’s with 10 speeds. Simple freight liner century’s or Columbia’s or even an old Volvo with a Cummins. I only want to spend 15k
I've been driving for 10 years and one thing I have learned is that volvos are expensive to repair. Not a huge fan of their engines & stay away from the automatics. You can never go wrong with a Cummins.
Sammi ;/ I'm scared to buy a truck that will be a shitter. I really want my w900 2000-6 n14 with a 18 speed or a t600-60 , whenever I get the money up, could I pay you money to come with me to check it out?
If you have to pick from a classic xl or an fld 120 which one would you go with because I like both trucks but I like the option of the long square hood I can get from a classic

Lot of the trucks were used on farms at 7G is a good deal

If it'll pass dot and works without any issues for a month you could buy a 4000 truck and make some money with it
Man! This video was just full of good advice bro. Especially the blow-by part. Keep em coming man

I want be owner op . Have 40k but I dont know what's the best used truck I can get, any help please ^_^
Great video Bro!
in your personal opinion how would you go about getting
trucks that have been sitting for a while
That's a question I would like to know
Is that a grabber? I never thought of that i drop shit all the time.
Good info thanks young man
Nice selfie stick. All super truckers need one. And a pink shirt. 🚛
Where can I buy virgin recaps?
vincent jarvey knew I was missing something... can you lend me the shirt?
Any time you buy a 2nd/3rd gen carcass tire like a firestone or Dayton. They are what I call a virgin recap
Why not just get used virgin tires with no patches or plugs. They are super cheap. UPS and fed ex get rid of tires at 50% tread.
vincent jarvey I've bought a few of those used tires, I went for the michelins. Your right they are cheap
great video very helpful! !
I like your advice, thanks for the info
thanks for this video
do you see ECM report when you buying used tractor ? I want to know is that's easy to find it
You know it really doesn't make much sense to buy a newer truck with the new emission controls they just have to many problems.
I have a 2014 emission W900L. I put videos up often, I'm always rolling :)

Thanks Sammy. Useful info, I'm fixing to buy a used dump truck. Question for you or anyone with miles on the road --what are 2 of your best engines and 2 of the worst engines?? And I know they r options only. Thanks
I like Cummins with emissions because I know them. And DD15's
Pre emissions, cummins n14, cat 3406 and 6nz, Detroit 60 series 12.7 are my picks
I was thinking on buying an older Volvo Semi and buying a remanufactured Cummins ISX, to put in it from one of these companies, what do you think ????
All depends on what you want to do. Either way, the truck will take money to keep going. New or used. I'm leaning more towards new these days

Pre Emission N14 or S60 12.7 detroit......poor's man trucks Certified. Me Volvo with N14 and up grated from a super 10 to a 13 speed.
David machAdo that's a good set up there
What about a western star daycab with a dd12 or dd15 motor? Also I saw a 2008 western star with a N14 for 40,000 is that a good deal
What type of truck do you run or would recommend buying
Charles Elston it's really just a preference. I like a kw because interior isn't as plain as others. I like a Cummins motor wise
