    If you watched this movie and didn't fall in love with the Irish, you don't have love in your heart. I love most, if not all of John Waynes movies but this one will always be my favorite. And that makes it my favorite movie of all time since no one ever made a better movie than John Wayne.

      @buggeroff considering how
      1. Most of the movies made in the 70s through the 2010s are just bad remakes of good to great movies from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's
      and
      2. Consist mainly of horrible acting and shitty CGI.
      then

      @buggeroff There's nothing wrong with most Disney Films. Mary Poppins was a bit too long but other than that they are good movies. I have no Idea what a "Children's Playtime Film" is. The vast majority of Movie's in the last ten years have been real shit and the last four years of the woke generation movies have been total shit. Aside from Deadpool and Guardians the marvel stuff has been moronic shit. But don't worry, most of Hollywood will be going to prison for human trafficking soon. The major studios will be decimated. full of favorite scenes... so often I wish I had family as this film feels family and irish is... and then also, I love how the "contest" between queen and/ or Country was shown [as I favor Independence from crown] BUT also the people ought to chose which church to attend... but I will venture no further on that point... just grant me a pint and I will spin you all a good solid yearn...

    In a way, this movie had parts of Shakespeare's play, "The Taming of the Shrew" in it, this scene being the biggest culmination of it.

      As a high school freshman, I read the short story that was the basis for this movie. In the original story, the fight was about what you'd expect when a lumbering amateur takes a swing at a top-ranking professional boxer -- very short and very one-sided. In the movi, it was obvious that Thornton was taking it easy on Danaher. He didn't really unload on him until that last punch in the bar.

    Victor McLaglen fought newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson in a 6 round "no decision exhibition match" before Hollywood called.

    • @oldgoat142
      @oldgoat142 4 года назад +5

      No decisions were a very common occurrence in prize fighting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. McLaglen was reputed to be a pretty good fighter who did have "a jaw of granite," but Johnson was on a whole different level. Wish there was some film of a couple of McLaglen's fights. Would've been cool to watch.

    Victor McLaughlin was a heavyweight who once fought Jack Johnson. He was the real deal but perfect for casting as the big clumsy bully in this great movie. Great choreography when he tries to put that clumsy right on Wayne, gets off balance and Wayne tags him in the midsection.
