DIY Doors - Part 1 (The Template) - Camp EZ Teardrop

  • Door construction finally begins on the Camp EZ teardrop!
    Part 1 - Just like the side walls, the doors will be a framed core with thin ply laminated to the inner and outer sides. To make sure everything fits and works as intended, in this episode we'll be building a full-size template. Yes, it takes extra time, but if it proves to be as useful as the wall template, it will be well worth it.

    Thank you for taking the time to show the trim for the door. I'm convinced I've got to make a full size template now! The finish line is in sight buddy! Nice work!

    Just found your channel. Great videos, I want to build a rugged TD to go off road/boondocking in my Wrangler. Trying to convince the boss to let me.

    Im really enjoying these build videos as I prep to build mine. With cutting out the lightening holes, did you get any warping? Or did the outer and inner skins keep it true?

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  3 года назад +1

      On my build, the inner and outer plywood sheeting kept the walls warp free. Good luck on your build!

    That's really nice build I love your attention to detail , can you explain how you made the template as I can't seam to find it

      Hey Rod, I really appreciate the kind words! I made the full-size wood template by transferring dimensions from a CAD program to the wood. Basically, I overlaid a 6" grid on the CAD drawing, measured the vertical and horizontal distance of each line intersect, then transferred them to the template which also had a 6" grid pattern applied to it. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I believe I'll make a video about how I did it!! Thanks for the idea!

      Wow! Thanks for your viewership! I searched “Frameless RV Windows” on eBay when I bought them.

    Gday can you tell me how you settled on the round shape of the doors ? Most designs I have seen are square, I am going to build a teardrop and being a larger guy, do the larger doors make easier entry and exit ? Cheers from Victoria, Australia

      I designed the doors to be round to match the curves of the teardrop. I made them around 40” wide or so to accommodate my size. I love them!!

      Welcome! I actually had the idea of starting a RUclips channel after my walls were already up. I would recommend checking out M Langford’s channel (link below). He has many videos of the whole process. BUT, be sure to come back here as well! Lol!

    What do you get to door hinges

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  5 лет назад

      1966adkins I picked them up off eBay. They’re just called “Chrome plated trailer door hinges”. I think you can get them in black as well.

    Where did you get the windows?

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  5 лет назад +1

      Tony Latham I found them on eBay. It was a bit of a challenge finding them for a thinner wall and finding some with a trim ring. I was pretty stoked to get some frameless ones!

    Where did you get the t molding and l molding?

    Will it bend around square corners

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  5 лет назад

      That would be very difficult, especially for T trim. That would be a good place to mitre the trim.

    What do you have as a door jamb

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  5 лет назад

      I put my rubber seal on the door a T trim so when it closes it contacts the outer wall of the camper. I guess you could say the wall itself is the jam. It’s backwards of what most folks do.

      What do most folks do

    • @CampandCamera
      @CampandCamera  5 лет назад

      Jeff Towner I believe most put one on the inside of the wall. I can’t give too much detail on that method though since I didn’t do it that way. Poke around on the TNTTT website. You’ll definitely see it there.
