My grandma made egg custard in small ramekins when I was little. She would especially make them when my brothers and I were sick, and when we asked what the brown sprinkles were on top, she told us it was something that would make us feel better (it was nutmeg). We thought it had superpowers. ❤
Oh my goodness...how easy was this? I have been so afraid of making egg custard, but not anymore! Thank you Karen for showing us how simple this can be. Fond memories of egg custard as a child of this. Thanks again :)😃
I have never made egg custard, but in Tennessee we love Chess pie which calls for more sugar and butter my husband loves it! I will definitely try this!
P,s. We love all are time with you in the kitchen also Karen your Beautiful kitchen is Soo warm and welcoming so thank you for haveing us ,!! ❤😂😢😮😅😊❤❤❤❤ 11:48
Hey Miss Karen...this pie looks similar to a buttermilk pie...i love buttermilk pie...I've never tried a custard pie but it looks delicious! I love watching you cook, we cook alot alike & cook the same things...only thing better would actually being in the kitchen with you...😊 Ya'll have a good day!
My grandma and mom made something like this. The custard was similar, but they put it on a graham cracker crust, and topped it with meringue. It was called Flapper Pie. A very common pie here in Alberta apparently - with early homesteaders, and still popular with my family.❤
My Mom and Grandma made these!💕Precious Memories! 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻Karen, THANK YOU so much for the recipe!🛐☀️God Bless You! I am Having severe issues with swallowing anything but liquids and I just know that this will be able to dissolve in my mouth and be able to give me awesome some nourishment the inside of the pie not the crust!😋♥️ I remember always helping both Mom & Grandma make these! Grandma passed away just 3 month’s SHY of her (100th Birthday) = 1894 - 1994 and my Mom passed in 2011 at age 92. Merry Christmas Karen and Thank You Again for this video!🥰
That is the best pie and I think it’s an old recipe or it is old around in my area. My mom makes it and she also uses the same recipe but adds coconut and makes a crust less coconut pie which is awesome. Merry Christmas!
I just love this custard so thank you Karen. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas holiday and a safe happy healthy New Year. Love you chanel. XOXO Mary Ann in Texas ❤❤
This has a similar texture as that sugar cream pie recipe I sent you. I absolutely love it and I’m sure yours is equally delicious. Mine doesn’t have eggs in it. I hope after the holidays you’ll have time to try it. It’s super easy too and most of the cooking is on top of the stove. This is looking yummy Karen. It’s 4:00 am here in Kentucky… time to get ready for work. Love you, have a blessed day.. Merry Christmas! ❤
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily I’m making your custard pie and pecan pie Saturday when I get off work. I’m throwing on a pot of chili so it can cook a couple of hours and I’ll have time to bake your pies. 😋😋😋😋♥️
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily I definitely will. That custard pie looked so good at 4:00am. And it’s so easy.. I think you hit a home run on both of these pies.

Karen, could I just let the scalded milk cool to room temperature to avoid having to temper or does it need to be added to the eggs hot? Thank you for another amazing looking recipe!❤
I use salted butter for everything. Pie crusts, I like Pillsbury, Mrs Smiths, store brands, imnot picky there. Most are delicious. I do however, always use deep dish, my one preference. 😋 ♥️
Karen love this pie. One of my favorites. Could I ask you why you scald the milk. My Mom and I have never done this. Would you just happen to know if this pie could be frozen? I am watching a lot of your videos tonight. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I would love to know how to make caramel pie!
I need to try that also. Love caramel. I have a video on a caramel pecan pie. It is amazing.
Karen, could I just let the scalded milk cool to room temperature to avoid having to temper or does it need to be added to the eggs hot? Thank you for another amazing looking recipe!❤
I've always used it hot. Pour in slowly and whisk well as you do.
Where did you get the pretty red&white mixing bowl?
I got it at Walmart. It is so cute and the perfect size. ❤️
Do you thaw the pie crust or use it frozen?
I thaw it first. 😉
Yum! Do you use salted or unsalted butter? What brand pie crust do you use? Happy Holidays!
I use salted butter for everything. Pie crusts, I like Pillsbury, Mrs Smiths, store brands, imnot picky there. Most are delicious. I do however, always use deep dish, my one preference. 😋 ♥️

My recipe calls for scalding. It melts the sugar and blends everything together. Not recommended for freezing.
