Personally I felt like ever since Wren was gifted the Virtual Western World by the TV Entity, that's when he turned to the dark side. Before that, he was still good. But he unfortunately lost everything. :(
Yes I had a discussion with a fellow theorist over on discord. Wren was never evil at any point even at his breaking point, It was the fear of losing everything for the second time in a row and so anger grew within him.

I always saw Wren as a broken villain. He was never evil by choice, it’s just one small choice spiraled and eventually ruined his life. It’s very… it’s very saddening. Perhaps had someone been kinder to him, or even helped him, he wouldn’t have went down the path he did
I think he had a wife, but something bad happened to her that led to Wren going down that dark path.
Yeah. He was basically a guinea pig for the adware's experiment. The adware could have helped Wren go down a better path, but nope, he instead waved a metaphorical bag of meth at Wren that resulted in the poor inkling's sanity going down the drain. Wren's actions were definitely not justifiable, but it's clear he was just another pawn of the adware

I’m really disappointed with how Wren was handled
I kinda feel the same way for wren purely because of being manipulated by puzzlevision but honestly he isn’t really pure evil he was more of a broken villain imo but honestly this theory makes up for it maybe he should have a redemption arc because puzzlevision is the one that is the true villain and honestly he doesn’t have his own backstory at all maybe someone made him

I disagree (partially),
It's like the IGBP situation: Both SMG4 and Wren were simply just possesed to become evil, but the whole reason for why SMG4 and Wren got themselves in that place in the first place is because of their motives
So, my conclusion is that whatever you say about SMG4, it applies to Wren, in terms of being evil or not.
However, SMG4 learned his lesson (sort of), Wren did not. SMG4 and Wren are both broken villains, except SMG4 got the plot armour and didn't end up like Wren.

If I'm being honest, Wren's pride was what caused his downfall. He was never really a humble person to begin with, and he couldn't accept he was a washup. Wren's villainy served as a lesson to both Meggy and the audience that we should never really meet our heroes, but *_some_* people would still rather see the good in someone who's not at all worth our time, rather than accept the harsh truth about the heroes we idolized in our youth. I find it extremely delusional we'd be willing to try and find the positives to such a negative outcome of finding out the true extent of our heroes' true colors, rather than accepting that these worthless and pathetic ideologies are nothing more than a waste of time and energy. That could just be me being constantly jaded by what my personal heroes turned out to be all along behind the cameras, but I don't really think we should waste our sanities trying to put back together the pieces that were shattered by our ex-idols, because it just hurts us in the long run. I know it hurt me.
