Taking nothing away from Michael - he was an amazing talent - but Sammy is the king. He could sing, dance, play almost any instrument you put in front of him and had the kind of class that nobody could touch. He really was in a class of his own. He survived so much and his music and style are still timeless. What he had to go through was unbelievable. Michael - he was amazing, no doubt. But he couldn't hold a candle to Sammy. RIP, Mr. Showbiz. RIP, King of Pop.
@RED PILL PORTAL Davis wasn't a Satanist. He was going through a mid life crisis and he latched on to a psuedo-cult of wanna bees. Davis later said the group made him feel relevant and not a has been but said they were mostly a bunch of imoressionable minds motivated by drugs and sex.
one of the most honest, direct show appearances I've seen from any performer. I'm in my late 40's & gave up drinking 10 years ago, and like him, sometimes I do miss a hit of henessy or brandy! I miss Mr. Davis and wish we could have had him a little longer...
Sammy had bundles of talent...he could do anything, sing, dance, play the drums, act..he was an amazing entertainer. He faced so much rascism in his early career and he opened the doors for other black entertainers later on in the entertainment industry. I saw Sammy preform in London with Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli just before he tragically passed away. Sinatra and Minelli were fantastic but watching Sammy preform live just blew me away! Physically he was short in stature but to watch him on stage, his talent was huge. Sammy was one if the greatest entertainers and a class act.
These interviews just made my day. These two gentlemen have extremely high prominent positions in my own loving hall of favorites. Two classically amazing gentlemen. Talented, gorgeous, entertaining, true genuius in making people enjoy the time spent watching them. Bless you Sammy, even after all these years, I still say 'Why Me' was one of the best books I ever read. Sammy Davis Jnr was a favorite of mine as a child. Learning more about classic stars like this is the real genius of great interviewing. Much love, a fan, Theresa 💜🙋♀️☯️
Sammy didn't fully make it through until the 1960s and 1970s. He was part of the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. It really helped him with his career, because the Rat Pack wouldn't perform in places that wouldn't properly allow Sammy Davis Jr to be a guest. He really fought hard early on, and his efforts paid off in a big way. It's really intriguing to hear part of his life story with Arsenio Hall. Still a life lesson that should be taught to younger audiences.
The glass eye looks very realistic...On a more important matter though, Sammy gave the best explanation I ever heard about his being labeled as an "Uncle Tom" or "acting white"...People say Barack is an "Uncle Tom", but that's not true...There isn't one way to be black or white or yellow or red...People are all different and we're all shaped by our experiences and culture and we're all socialized differently, to one degree or another...It's time to put this "Oreo Cookie" label behind us.
listening to Sammy w this story, is heartbreaking! And also inspireing! To think even showing friendly affection between ppl of diff colour was so offensive to society back then, is just mindboggeling!
Love Sammy Davis Jr... He was a great entertainer...Miss those days with all this great talent...:( .MJ, Sammy, Whitney, Donna Summer, and all the others makes me sad... :(
I was a kid during the Black Power era and Sammy used to get dissed hard. You just didn't know how hard he had it underneath all the performing. Right on to you Sammy--wherever you are!
Im white and Im not racist at all. I adore Sammy Davis Jr and I feel so sick that he had to go through all he did. He was the best entertainer there ever was. It is not part of my DNA nor is it part of my familys! I love all people no matter what their skin color is, their sexual orientation or anything else that makes them different than me.
ditto : RIP, Mr Showbiz and RIP, King of POP - no one does it better than both of you !!!! By God's grace I got a chance to tell him in person how much I admired him and respected him as the Greatest Entertainer in 1987 - he was being honored in Oakland, Ca at the Oscar Micheaux Film Awards - during the program I went down to where he was seated with his wife Altovise (with my bold self) and in true Sir Sammy Davis Jr style - after hearing my entiments he took my hand and kissed it ! Amazing
The program which Sam referenced at the 5:47 mark was "Petula", starring Petula Clark, with her guest Harry Belafonte. It aired, for Chevrolet, in 1969.
I love him! Really I love Sammy & MJ BOTH-I truly wish these 2 could have the respect they both deserve. At least they are in heaven together now. But there should be some kind of boxset or collection of all their work so that we can hold on to them & remember them at their best & what they do best!
yes, Sir Sammy Davis jr, fulfilled all of my respect and admiration for him ( i had read - Yes I Can- his autobiography years before ) when he gracefully took my hand and kissed it (i was on cloud nine) - classy and true Sammy Davis Jr yes !!!! rest in glorious peace always !!!!
god it is so amazing for a man like him and every black man, woman or anyone who had suffered prejudice in that fashion to make it to a place where he is.
Yes, what a blessing !! Sammy Davis Jr says Michael Jackson was like a son to him and he loved him !! And Sammy says he was the Michael Jackson of the 1950's - awesome !!!! Now they are both known as the Greatest Entertainers who ever lived !!!
This was so deep. That’s why we must take what we do seriously because of the people like Sammy who helped pave the way but also for the trails we’re blazing for those to come after us
I forgot that Sammy was a child performer as well...His resume' as an actor, singer and comedian must read like no other star in Hollywood, before and after him...Sammy was a chain-smoker though...He has a cigarette in hand in every interview I've seen with him so far...He was definitely the Michael Jackson of the fifties...Sammy's talent was like Mount Everest...He gave a really great explanation about his individuality as a black man and the things that shaped him into becoming what he became.
What a Classy Gentlemen I can remember as a youth in the late 60's and 70's we would watch Sammy Frank & Dean you could see the respect and love they had for one another. But you know what it did during those formative years that we did not even know was happening it impressed in our minds we are all the same together if you leave two babies together and not teach them hate they will grow up loving and respecting one another. Sammy was a major major reason Blacks in America and race relations began to improve and the issue of discrimination rose to the surface more so than any other. The unfairness injustice against our Afro American brothers and sisters had to be addressed and corrected. We have come such a long long way with much distance left to travel we will get there. God Bless Sammy, Frank, Dean, for there bravery to stand up against foolish hatred of a skin tone. We are all together in this day race called life we need one another to get through it.

FYI: Sammy was actually seeing movie star Kim Novak on the sneak but had to stop due to anti racial mixing in those times. Actually quickly married his 1st wife who was black so it wouldn't get exposed he was seeing Novak.
well when he started smoking it wasn;t known how bad for you cigaretts were. All of those entertainers smoked back then. They didn;t know the damage it caused. Most still smoke
You got to meet one of the original rat Packers himself? I am so jealous and you must have been like a little kid in the amusement park when you met him! Classy as always and a man who taught such valuable lessons.
wow....the racism that this man experienced is interesting to listen to.....Frank Sinatra always treated sammy fairly and always tried to help his career.
No offense, but you really need to get over it. Better yet, LEARN from it and help you grow as a person. Sammy, and so many others had to go through a lot of crap so that YOU don't have to!
I recently started watching Sammy Davis Jr. performance and just loved it! What a talent. RIP.

You could hear the pain in his voice, talking about it. I just wanted to hug him.
My Name Here I noticed that too.
@Jay James
Typical asshole! Attacking the dead when they are unable to defend themselves!

Heckuva six gun spinner and shooter too! Check him out on at least two episodes of The Rifleman.

Not only one of the greatest entertainers ever to live, but a brilliant mind, a philosopher as well.

I believe some people are born to be entertainers. Sammy was one of those people.
Sammy so bad he could light up a cigarette on Arsenio’s show and no one’s gonna say anything

Kimono : Times sure have changed. Now, not only are people of different colors married, but also people of different religions, too.
To be fair, his relationship with Sinatra was incredibly complex
That footage at the beginning was amazing! I had no idea he started so young! Obviously, he was absolutely born to do it!
He's Absolutely Adorable When He Was Sinqinq As A Kid .
Love Sammy Davis Jr... He was a great entertainer...Miss those days with all this great talent...:( .MJ, Sammy, Whitney, Donna Summer, and all the others makes me sad... :(

Wow! Sammy's honesty and candor in this interview are amazing!

I don't like cigarettes at all, but unfortunately were important part of his personality, same as Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Frank Sinatra.
This man spoke from the heart, total true!
I love him! Really I love Sammy & MJ BOTH-I truly wish these 2 could have the respect they both deserve. At least they are in heaven together now. This was a superb guy.
I read Sammy's book years ago, but I thought it was originally titled "Yes, I Can." Anyone remember that? (Or am I just crazy)
nutmegger1957 I think he actually wrote two books. The second one was kind of a ‘sequel’, or part two of his life story.
Hardest working entertainer ever.
i cant believe that they poured urine in his beer im so glad i did not live in this era.
well when he started smoking it wasn;t known how bad for you cigaretts were. All of those entertainers smoked back then. They didn;t know the damage it caused. Most still smoke
