Malcolm this is is SO helpful. I’m painting an inlet with a dark, brooding sky. Been struggling with getting the sky right…and here you are just in time to help me work it out! Thank you so much for all the work you put in to give us these videos!
Hi malcolm I have been following and watching your work since lockdown during covid. I really enjoy your style of painting and relaxing way in which you present your channel I've taken up painting thanks to you. Thanks malcome and keep up the good work.
Beautiful 😍 I enjoy how you design a completely different sky and match the sea & shore together. This is very helpfull because my brain has a hard time seeing through/behind what I literally see. Thank you again!
Ive just found your channel and im really pleased as I'm new to acrylics. Your videos are very inspiring and i cant wait to try out your advice tomorrow. I very much like the changes you made to your sky. I heard you say there were too many horizontal lines in it otherwise and id been thinking that too but only because earlier today I'd watched your free course and that's one of the things you said to avoid. You see, i was paying attention. I also like all the paintings you have on the wall behind you. Take care
Your painting makes me want to go to the beach! Really lovely. Thanks for the tips. I’m going to try your suggestions in my afternoon painting session. For the highlights are you using titanium white? Or do you add some color?
Thank you. Yes titanium with a warm color mixed in. Could be yellow lemon for a really punchy highlight. Or yellow ochre for a little less. Titanium on its own is too cold.
Beautiful!!! Have you ever used a sketchbook for practice?? My art isn’t this good and my collect of bad canvas art is growing 😬 I think I may try this in a watercolor sketchbook ❤
Yes, sketching is important for overall muscle memory and working out problems. When I paint though I do minimal sketching on the painting surface so as to keep brushwork faifly loose. Rather work out the idea in a sketch book.
@@evali1212 Oil offers more in the long run. Its a popular debate, but I started with acrylics then moved into oils and it was love at first brushstroke 🥰
Those sky holes in the purple, brooding clouds make a beautifully dramatic picture!
Thank you Jean
I love the way Malcolm so superbly articulates the ineffable qualities of his work.

Gorgeous painting and such useful tips and advice, I definitely need to see beyond the scene I'm looking at and use some artistic licence.
Thank you, Glad it was helpful!
Love the way you reinterpreted the sky to add interest. It really made the painting pop! As always great tips and info and a lovely painting.
Thank you!

Love your demo very much. If using acrylic, will the effect be the same?
Yes it will. Some textures may differ, but the light effect will be similar.
@@MalcolmDewey Would you recommend oil instead of acrylic for landscape painting?

@@MalcolmDewey Thanks for your valuable info. I have been thinking of going for oil instead.
HAPPINESS TO YOU AND YOUR DOGS.
Thank you 😊
Was this oil or gouache?
It was oil on canvas.
