Wow. You were just guessing if that bull was legal and you got lucky. Because he did not have 5 inch brow tines. But carried the small 2nd that you could not see at that distance. If that bull was 3 years old you would be lucky. It’s one step up from killing a spike You would do the heard better if you killed a dry cow. But then that is how rookie elk hunters hunt…😂

We watched the bull for awhile, but finally identified the fourth point on the right side before he shot it! We’re Just a bunch of rookies here, probably not near the hunter you are! That bull tasted really good though!

I am not just a hunter but also a outfitter. With well over 300 bull under my belt. And of course he runs up to the bull and first thing he does is count 1234. But if he new the bull was legal before hand and was sure then no need to check or count😂😂

He was 99% sure, lol! Man, we’re just some Oklahoma boys that get to make the trip out west one week out of the year, at best! We don’t claim to be expert hunters or anything like that. We just document our trips as they happen. We have spent a lot of money on tags that were never filled(btw-this wasn’t an either sex tag)! We’ve chosen to do it different areas and with no guide, so this elk may seem insignificant to you, but it meant a lot to us! I am more than happy for a free outfitters trip for you to show me how to do it!

@ someone who’s guided 300 + kills chiming in on what’s healthiest for the herd is pretty rich.
