Dude you are a legend, somehow other guitar lessons on RUclips make simple things complicated, but you explain clear and concisely, thank you

Thanks for all the work. When I've mastered stabwound, which will probably take 12 years, I'll try this one!

Haha, well I wish you the best of luck!
For me, when I'm learning difficult songs, I break it into sections. I'll learn part of it on Sunday and practice throughout the week, then learn the next part on the next Sunday and practice that. Stick it out and eventually you'll have the whole song!

Really awesome lesson man, I'm surprised you even got the "transition" riffs down, those are really hard to hear in the mix, I had to watch a lot of live videos to see he was doing those patterns similar to the verses in Xenochrist, that weird almost pedal note stuff.
Please do The Spiraling Void if you do another Faceless track, some of the riffs in there would be dope to break down.

Thank you; I'm glad you found the video helpful!
"The Spiraling Void" would be a fun song to learn, but it's challenging to find time to learn songs these days, especially such difficult ones. I can share with you some tips that might help if you wanna try learning the song yourself.
Usually, I'll open up several tabs on my computer with the official track and as many live videos as I can find (maybe even some covers too). I'll focus on one section at a time and search through the videos to see which has the clearest view of the guitar to try and see the hand positionings.
On the official track, you'll get the clearest audio; usually, each guitar is panned left and right, so you can better isolate either guitar by listening through only the left or right speaker rather than both.
A super helpful tool is the "Playback Speed" function on RUclips videos; you click the Gear Icon on the video, select Playback Speed, and slow it down to 0.5. Not only does it slow the video down, but it preserves the pitch, so this makes it easier to pick out the notes.
A few years ago, I did make a video about learning hard songs, so you can check that out to pick up a few more tips:
      ruclips.net/video/-sMBQ9eeZ7g/видео.html
And lastly, while I might not be able to learn and teach anymore Faceless songs for a while, I did make a tutorial for "Coldly Calculated Design" and "Prison Born" if you're interested in learning either of those:
      ruclips.net/video/-OpFoXd-7DU/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/DBGS2S2VNSg/видео.html
      I hope that helps!

@@QuincyKane Hey thanks for the lengthy reply, I do a similar method myself as well, especially take use of the playback option, a blessing when they implemented that years ago. I'll definitely check out your other vids, cross reference how I remember playing them years ago to see where I messed up lol. It's fun revisiting some of these tracks after years of not playing them.
      Thanks again!

If you truly want to play it with "correct" Michael Keene technique, coil your pinky finger up all the way back off the neck of the guitar like a striking cobra and only use it when absolutely necessary!

    hello man
im still learning the guitar, do you have tabs for this ?

    • @QuincyKane
      @QuincyKane  4 года назад +1

AKAJACE1337 That's awesome that you're learning guitar! I don't want to discourage you from learning material from The Faceless, but it is very technical and advanced music, just so you know. You should certainly strive toward it, but be sure to build a strong foundation with your basics first (timing, rhythm, alternate picking, dexterity, etc.)
I don't have tabs for this song, but I think it's better to learn by watching anyway. There are some actual guitar lessons by Michael Keene that you should definitely check out if you haven't already, and he's done some Jackson demo videos that are a great resource for learning his playing style.
Hope that helps; best of luck!

    • @QuincyKane

Thanks, man! Believe it or not, I'm actually just using a free amp sim and plugins going through an interface into my macbook and out of my studio monitors.
The amp sim I'm using is "LeGion" from LePou; I'm using an impulse response loader (NadIR) from Ignite Amps, and I'm using Marshall 1960 IRs from Redwirez. I actually have a couple videos where I talk about using these plugins to get this tone; I'll post some links for you to check out:
      Video 1 - ruclips.net/video/oSmM9R8GBAk/видео.html
      Video 2 - ruclips.net/video/HfXuMwgxRC4/видео.html
      Legion - vst4free.com/plugin/961/
      NadIR and TPA-1 - www.igniteamps.com/
      Marshall 1960 IRs - redwirez.com/pages/the-marshall-1960a-ir-pack
      TSE808 - www.tseaudio.com/home
Now, when I use the tone live (like I did in the video), I actually don't go through all the plugins (to save CPU and decrease latency). My signal chain looks like this:
      EQ (Highpass - 80hz) > Noise Gate > TSE808 > LeGion > NadIR
If you can play through an interface with a preamp, it'll sound even better. Hope that helps!

can i hammer on the first part of the riff?

    • @QuincyKane
      @QuincyKane  2 года назад

I'm not sure which part you mean exactly; you could certainly try to hammer on and see if it works, but as you get more familiar with playing the song, you might try to pick it the way it was intended.
