i share the same opinion, i've been following it for a while and i think that that's what makes a good teacher. I suck as a guitarrist and following his classes (not only) i could achieve a lot of progress and now i can play sharp and clean stuff that i wasn't able to, like Pantera, Death and other heavy music that demands some technique to execute in a nice way. With a good teacher even ungifted people can go a bit further and enjoy its own playing and eventually make other people enjoy it as well, wich is a real nice thing. I've dug a lot looking for good instructors on the internet and i think that this is the approach that i identify the most as being an actual good class and not only a good guitarrist showing what he can do on the internet, wich is greatly different as we know...

Bernth has very solid left hand technique that any classical guitar player would be happy to have. Notice how his fingers barely move away from the fretboard during this exercise. As a classical player, l learned the best way to minimize movement was simply to relax my fingers. Relaxing them releases them from the strings and they will naturally float up a minimal distance above the strings. This is a good technique to develop because you're also practicing relaxation, which is always a good thing.

So yeah, excellent lesson. My 1st time here, I am Subbed up and ready to go! 25 years playing and today you made me realize 2 things. One, my so called 'alternate picking' is actually a combination of that but sometimes hits a double downstroke, or double upstroke, which I think they call economy picking. Aaargh! Second, my finger height is REDICULOUS! And that many years never really paying attention to them, it feels almost impossible to control them when they aren't holding a note. I appreciate the comment about keeping the fingers relaxed, seems to help a bit, but man do I have some serious work to do! Again, thank you Bernth, nice to meet you, rock on!!

I am almost 100% sure that I have mastered economy of motion and minimized the amount I have to move my fingers and I literally cannot play near the speeds some of the best shredders play, but EVERY single shredder I have ever seen has nimble, long fingers. The only somewhat exception I personally know of is Dustie from BTBAM and he generally doesn't play any of the really complex stuff. That's all Paul with his 6 knuckled fingers.

I almost cant look at the guitar without getting emotional . I miss the guy , A great friend and music lover. But I know he would want me to play, so for Eddie I will. @Bernth: The quality and the effort you put into your videos 🎬 🎤 IMO are nothing short of stellar 💫 ⭐️ 🌟 ✨- clearly among the best youtube-wide 👍
Also, can't really thank you enough 🙏for inspiring me to start playing metal guitar 🎸🪓 again - after all those years of just thinking about it... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
One thought / idea (as always, sorry if this has been on before, obviously can't search 🔎🔬all comments of all videos...):
How about some "How do they do it ?" videos ?
Obviously, there's loads of playthrough videos out there, but IMO, combining your exercises / building blocks to "build up to" solos / licks from popular songs where those building blocks are used would really increase long term motivation in two ways: If I want to be able to play solo ABC, I need to practice technique / pattern XYZ; also, it shows me that all those solos supposedly from another world are in reality playable / achievable.
I'm not a particular fan personally of idolizing musicians 🐰beyond what's warranted, but as an example, being able to cleanly and confidently play the arpeggio sweeping in DevilDriver - Resurrection BLVD (ruclips.net/video/Z0XCUkc2hVE/видео.html / ruclips.net/video/F016GzWNoCM/видео.html) was a clearly defined, concrete, super helpful goal in the past for me (that I miserably failed to achieve due to lack of discipline and other lame excuses; that not being the point :-D).

On pick holding position technique, like you do, I hold the pick exposing to, and contacting the strings with just the tip, as not to get jammed, or "stuck" between strings. I also hold the pick on an angle "/" between my (right hand) thumb tip (straightened thumb knuckle) and the bottom (palm-side) of my index finger. Like this: (/) contacting the strings on an angle like a biased slice instead of flat against (---) the string like a pluck ( no good). You also angle the pick as well but, at the opposite angle, more like this : (\), between the bottom, palm of your thumb & the side of your index finger, also contacting the strings on a biased angle but opposite angle. I've held the pick (especially for alternate picking) with my tehnique for decades & I believe it should have equal effectiveness as to the way you hold the pick. Do you agree, or should I completely change my picking technique/ style?
I value & appreciate your reply...
Sorry for the long descriptive question, I hope it made sense to you...

Exactly when needed. I can play rhythm guitar easily but I always avoid soloing because I just can't seem to break my speed bareer I can't get faster and that started to ruin guitar for me. Hopefully this helps, thanks

Thanks a lot bernth! That picking hand has been bugging me from a long time, I usually rest my palm on the bridge but I always thought that's not the correct way to as I see other players doing something else, but thanks again for everything! 🤘🖤

Bro that is exactly how i pick ...i do try to keep the pick flat but yes angle makes it easyer... Its like you make your tricep stiff to make your wrist fly more kind of technique. " i dont pratice much anymore so my fingers do sometimes fly all over though:/"
    GREAT LESSON
    and BEAUTIFUL guitar :)
