- In today's guitar lesson, we check out the most important technique exercise I currently have in my practice routine. Aside from being a great alternate picking workout, we train our left hand to remain as close to the fretboard as possible to develop and clean and super-efficient technique!

BERNTH - How often must we do exercise practice in a week and how many hours needed?
Played a les Paul all my life. Picking with my wrist never worked out. These exercises are great to develop the wrist technique. Thanks!

Hi Bernth. I'm Jim Adams, and in a couple of days on June 4th, I will have been playing the guitar for 44 years, and I taught for quite a few of those years. I have be an watching your lessons for a few months now, and I must say that you are quite an instructor! I like your manner of presentation and your humble, unassuming style. Keep it up. You're providing a great, great service to us all. Take care and God bless and prosper you in the Name of Jesus. Cya.
Pinky finger says no...
This exercise really pushes me to my limits already at 10 bpm :D
Getting my pinky under control feels extremely difficult. Nevertheless there is some progress and I have the feeling that it will be worth the effort! Thanks for your videos!
How did it go bro?
Dawg you alr?
I cannot stress enough that practice this in front of a mirror is IMMENSELY helpful! A video recording would work just fine, if you don’t have a mirror in your practice space, but I’ve found that the ability to view yourself in real time in optimal. Great video, man! Glad I subscribed! 🤘
There is only one exercise that really gave me perfect finger independence and that is not on the guitar but on the piano. Press first all four fingers and lift up 1 and 3, then 2 and 4 and 1 and four. Only this will make you able to press deep enough with a chromatic exercise like this. My teacher was able to shred after just two years like a beast because of this exercise. You should teach this, because it is the best 'exercise ever for your left hand to create speed, power and finger independance.
Completely new to guitars, this channel is SUCH a huge help for anyone self taught.
Same
i actually learned how to play guitar a long time ago but i stopped playing bc i never felt like i was getting anywhere i picked it back up and ive been using your videos and focusing on my technique as much as i can. Thank you
Your left hand exercises are helping me out so much. I've been having some pain in my left wrist when I play standing and doing that first exercise already made a marked improvement for me in just one day. Appreciate everything you do, man!

Very very good INSTRUCTOR and lesson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty cool!
Awesome 👍
Was just thinking I could do with an exercise like this my hands aren't used to using all 4 fingers so i started struggling with the chromatic scale in cemetery gates solo. Cheers bud
Thank you....Sir..🙂
For some reason my pinky cooperates just fine during the ascending part of the exercise, but on the way back down it's kicking out like crazy. I have to slow way down to get it under control. Loving these exercises!
Haven't played guitar In over 7 years and I wanted to pick it up again, started doing the spider exercise but I noticed that I was muting the next strings and I thought I was eventually going to get better if I keep it up. I'm on day three and I'm still muting the strings and then I saw this video. This was literally my problem so I'm going to apply tonight I really appreciate the tips. Seeing your video was like an aha moment!
Danke!
Hey Bernth , Your videos are really great , I'm so lucky to be learning from you , Your skills are REALLY INCREDIBLE !!! 🖤
I suggest you make a video like " Top 10 easy solos to start with as a beginner ".
I also need to know if its okay to put one or two fingers on the guitar body while picking ?
I'm used to it but i feel like it kind of slows me down a bet ..! Idk .
Thank you so much you're doing great job really. 🖤
Thank bro..
Awesome
Mind-blowing 👌👌👌
Thank you very much, you Are good... Henrik from denmark
Speed man

Probably one of the cleanest players to ever be
especially with the sock on the 1st fret :D
@@MrPeperoni79 😂

Matur suwun cak
Sehr gut erklärt! 👍
🙏🙂
This is something im gonna have to practice REALLY slowly at first bc its something im struggling with
Thanks for this exercise, my pinky tends to get tired over long period of playing. Maybe my finger position is wrong. This is really helpful. ;)
Hi, I think the purpose of the left-hand inclination over the fretboard is to mute unwanted noises, to get a clean sound.
As a bluegrass mandolin player I really appreciate this video :-D
When I practise for a while my technique does naturally move towards that described.I do notice though if I angle my hand slightly opposite to that described playing is easier still
2:37 Paul Gilbert manages to make that work. His pinky flies out and yet he's one of the top shredders
didnt hear him mention it but look at his left thumb, bad technique is wrapped over the curve of the neck. When he does good technique his thumb is under the curve just supporting the weight, thats crucial.
Bernd,leinwand wie immer🤘
