  • In today's guitar lesson, we check out the most important technique exercise I currently have in my practice routine. Aside from being a great alternate picking workout, we train our left hand to remain as close to the fretboard as possible to develop and clean and super-efficient technique!

Hi Bernth. I'm Jim Adams, and in a couple of days on June 4th, I will have been playing the guitar for 44 years, and I taught for quite a few of those years. I have be an watching your lessons for a few months now, and I must say that you are quite an instructor! I like your manner of presentation and your humble, unassuming style. Keep it up. You're providing a great, great service to us all. Take care and God bless and prosper you in the Name of Jesus. Cya.

    Pinky finger says no...
This exercise really pushes me to my limits already at 10 bpm :D
Getting my pinky under control feels extremely difficult. Nevertheless there is some progress and I have the feeling that it will be worth the effort! Thanks for your videos!

I cannot stress enough that practice this in front of a mirror is IMMENSELY helpful! A video recording would work just fine, if you don’t have a mirror in your practice space, but I’ve found that the ability to view yourself in real time in optimal. Great video, man! Glad I subscribed! 🤘

There is only one exercise that really gave me perfect finger independence and that is not on the guitar but on the piano. Press first all four fingers and lift up 1 and 3, then 2 and 4 and 1 and four. Only this will make you able to press deep enough with a chromatic exercise like this. My teacher was able to shred after just two years like a beast because of this exercise. You should teach this, because it is the best 'exercise ever for your left hand to create speed, power and finger independance.

didnt hear him mention it but look at his left thumb, bad technique is wrapped over the curve of the neck. When he does good technique his thumb is under the curve just supporting the weight, thats crucial.
