I live in Cleveland. Around this time every year, spring bass fishing videos start popping into my feed and I get pumped up for bass fishing. Every year I get disappointed to realize I can’t go spring fishing until May at the earliest 😂
I have been limited to fishing after 12 Pm here in New Hampshire as of late and have only been bass fishing for three years so I decided to learn a little more and came upon this video first. I had a brand new Chatterbait in my tackle box and decided to give it a go. I am fishing small ponds in the SW area where the Lilly Pads are already starting to thicken but top water frogs are not quite working yet (especially at high noon). Using a Colorado XT single person pontoon rowboat I set out yesterday and tried the Chatterbait and I was pleasantly surprised. Caught several juvies, 8-10 inches, a few 2-3 pounders and one 5-6 pounder. Some smashed the lure as it hit the water and some hit it as I pulled it along weed beds. Thanks for taking the time to record and share your findings. You video is quick and easy to follow with no frills just fishing tips.
I totally agree... but my favorite for all around lure is a roster tail you can catch just about anything year round on a roster tail. I think they get overlooked by most anglers
I primarily bass fish ponds. That is my bread and butter. One bait I feel like you forgot to mention is a Ned rig craw on a standup jig. This is the #1 bait to use in summer time in ponds. Bass will go out deep, in plant cover to ambush, or around docks. Use a spinning reel for finesse and fish it super slow with little twitches and pops, work it on the bottom.
Good Evening BassFishingHQ, I am a devoted watcher of your channel with my son, We have ENJOYED watching your video's along with a TON of insight in landing some of these MONSTERS! LOL! :-) We also fish ponds as well as rivers, your knowledge of this topic is EPIC! THANK YOU for your advice! We will put this to the test in our ponds. :-) I have instilled in my son over 25 years of experience and knowledge that I"ve obtained in such a short period of my life! :-) May "God Bless You and Your Family my Friend, and as Always, "Keep a Tight Line and Never Stop Fishing!" :-) Sincerely, Mr. Carl Joseph Gwizdala, aka DESPERADO.
Match the bait fish I fish ponds and I have found that a 4 inch white shad swimbait with a spinner has caught more fish than anything I have used. Yes I have caught them on just about every bait but that little bait is my go to. A black spinnebait is really good to. Black White Red and Silver are great all round colors.
Most small lakes or ponds have that slime weed or wood around. My best bait to use is a zoom Magnum shakey head worm with a 3/0 or 4/0 worm hook. I use light spinning gear with no weights added. I usually catch fish wherever I go. I bury the hook in the worm to make it weedless. I like to use green pumpkin. The slow fall gets them all the time. I also would recommend a zoom lizard rigged the same way. Pumpkin Pepper.
I have always been that guy on the bank on his bucket bait fishing lol but my 19 yr old son introduced me to the whole lure thing and I have to say definitely been doing more catchin then fishin lol Awesome tips !!
my all time fav lure for pond bass fishing is the Zera Spook Puppy. Funnest lure I've ever used and has the coolest action I've ever seen. The full sized Zera Spooks are really good too but I usually reserve those for larger lakes
Southern Ontario Canada here. I've been using rappela's pink wiggle wart. I'm pulling a bass or rainbow out every 3 or 4 casts. Highly recommended the wiggle wart
I love a spinner bite for several reasons one it's an overall great lure to use and 2 it flashes so it can cover a lot of like a attraction over the whole pond
I just subscribed to your channel I would love one your hats. But thank you guys for all you do i’m always learning something new when I watch your videos
Pick up a “rooster tail” lure from your local tackle shop. The secret is this; go small. Don’t pick a big one thinking you’ll get bigger fish. I’ve caught everything from 2” bait fish all the way up to 20” Largemouth on the SMALLEST rooster tail size. When it comes to color, I’ve always had the best luck using the bright white color, but I have at least 3 other colors with me at all times just in case. Best of luck out there & tight lines
Strike king 1/8 th oz. small spinnerbait for bas or a 1/16th oz. Beetle spin for panfish. Pop-R is great. Chatterbaits are great. Mimic Minnows are great. Rebel crawfish are great. Good old jig and Mister Twister.
100% except I prefer a 1/2oz hula popper. I keep these 3 tied on from March to late September. Try a deps basirisky hard belly frog too. Thank me later.
I like a Senko on a Texas rig. Something like a devils horse, nip a dee dee, or Jointed Jitterbug for top water. Then something like a Jointed Rapala at various depths depending on water temp. A shallow running , floating Rapala will work top water pretty well..... If I could only fish two things it would be a Texas rigged worm and a floating Rapala.... If I panfish I use a beetlespin, rooster tail, mepps, or small shad or curly tail jig.
Depends on geography and structure. I am in S. Tx. I use a 4" to 6" straight worm Texas rigged, no weight. Fish it super slow using a spinning rod. Next is a single large silver blade spinner bait. Cast and retrieve, yo-yo, or like a jig, all those methods can work. Early morning or evening and through the night I use a large Hula Popper. Let it settle. First pop, wait longer than you think. Often, summer fishing turns them off until late into the night. Nothing beats a violent explosion in pitch black dark. Same lure is fantastic for catching bull grogs if you like frog legs.
My first comment ever. Love the hat man. I found the channel looking for summer pond fishing tips. I’ve had lot of success in ponds with all these lures. Fish on!
I have not had the heart to get seriously back into fishing since my pawpaw passed away many years back (fishing buddies like him are priceless, irreplaceable and few and far between). Fortunately for me, I married a woman that was blessed to have a grandfather that took her fishing too. We have a few days off from work together for the first time in years so it's time to find a pond and wet a hook! We've been catfishing a few time with very little success, maybe 2 cats between us in half a dozen trips. It's the start of fall (early October) and I've got to be honest, I'm burning up with Bass fever. I've got her a few catfish rigs ready to go but here is what is on my lines: 1. Texas Rig Culprit Plastic Worm 2. Mini King 1/4 oz. Spinnerbait 3. Bitsy Pond Minnow Crankbait 4. Secret Weapon Modified Devil's Horse I am counting on those to catch a Bass because I am tired of getting skunked catfishing. Hopefully I can spark an interest in my wife. The main thing is if you love to fish, take someone you love fishing too. Trust me, those memories will last a lifetime whether you catch anything or not!
Naa, here's your list for ponds. 1.) For a spinnerbait you need a white or yellow snagless salley. 2.) Virtually any 6 to 8 inch plastic worm in either green pumpkin, junebug, black, or purple depending on water color. 3.) For early morning and late evening top water a 110 size Whopper Plopper. I have made so many friends break down and ask me for a Snagless Salley while fishing a pond together it isn't funny. I have no idea why more people don't know about and use them. Best spinnerbait for shallow water ponds by far. Worms for the weeds and grass. And if you haven't used a Whopper Plopper yet you don't know what you are missing. Best top water plug period. Easy to use with just a steady retrieve. Tail spinning makes a nice gurgling sound and throws a perfect little flit of water with each rotation just like a baitfish fluttering on the surface. I'm telling you if you drag it over a big bass they got to have it. Great big bass lure.
I personally would pick a zara spook over the whopper plopper. Don't get me wrong a whopper plopper catches fish, but when they won't bite I throw out the zara
@@lilbeast11 I use saltwater lures to catch largemouth they don’t know the difference. That Badonka donk I mentioned is a saltwater lure in a mullet pattern but the bass love it too, at least when they’re actually hitting topwater. It’s a “walk the dog” lure which takes some practice and your wrist will get sore after a while but it’s a fun way to catch ‘em for sure. I also like buzzbaits. I throw a lot of spinner baits and swim jigs. Lipless crankbaits in Shad or bluegill patterns. When it slows down I rely on soft plastics. If I had to use one bait for the rest of my life it would either be a Senko worm or a Zoom Fluke rigged weightless. The fluke is nice because it’s versatile. Can fish it off the bottom, use it as a jerk bait, or even swim it across the top.
Dude, I slept on the whopperplopper style baits for a good while. But we recently had a ton of rain down here so all of our emergent vegetation has become submergent and topwater was back on the menu. It took an hour of fishing(if that) for me to gain confidence in 'em. Not a huge fan of just cast and reel but you impart a bit of action and throw pauses in regularly and holy heck, they kill.
Pretty incredible how universal the senko is. I used to use the wacky but Texas rig proved to be more useful to me with same results. Berkley powerworms deserve a Seat at the table!
I subbed not only for the sweet bass hat but the pond tips are clutch. Love how you explained why they work and not just hey these work great ! Thanks man
Just seen your channel brother and subbed you straight up my dude!! We been all over some Slab Crappie in Morgantown WV aera. Also some early Small mouth have been hitting some. What is a shadow bait show it
Wacky rig works 90% of the time in north west Florida. Black and blue!!!
My moms friends 5 year old daughter caught a 3.5 pounder on a wacky rig
Switch to a Texas rig. I guarantee you'll catch more bass in NW Florida than a wacky rig.
Red/black is even better. Mimics baby mudsnake
And 60% of the time, it works all the time.
I swear by the black and blues till I die
Totally agree. I caught my PB on a tiny 1/4 oz. Rapala Skitter Pop, and a Senko-type bait never fails. A frog in the pads is the ultimate for me, too.

Nice video, exactly what I was looking for. All the vids I see they tell you what to use but don’t fish with it and show you how to use it.
Lately I’ve been using yum 5”inches sinkos I’ve caught a lot of bass so far I’ve caught at least 5 fish already I love yums
If you like the Yum Dingers, put on a green pumpkin Gary Yamamoto SENKO with a chartreuse tail… you won’t regret it!

Second time coming around to this video and still learning new things I must have missed before .
I love fishing for bluegills because they are such hard fish to catch but have to find the right pond with them in it
I just subscribed to your channel I would love one your hats. But thank you guys for all you do i’m always learning something new when I watch your videos
Pumpkin seed char Texas rig works everywhere
Rapella Original Floating minnow lure. Faster retrieve deeper dive
