As a competitive player, I really appreciate the in-game counters during battle for how many turns are remaining for the effects of certain moves, weather, terrain, tailwind etc.
Back then, you just have to count manually or guess. Its hard to keep track of everything while youre trying to strategize as you battle especially when so many things can happen in doubles.
    Tailwind
    Weather
    Terrain
    Taunt
    Encore
    Etc...
Im so glad I can see how many turns are left by just pressing Y then selecting the pokemon/field.
(BDSP removed this feature which is so fuckin dumb.)
Also thanks to new features, no matter how bad the nature IVs and etc of a shiny, you can now make your shiny into a perfectly competitive viable Pokemon. Its amazing!

One that I believe people don’t appreciate nearly as much as they Should Is critical captures.
Gone are the days of the super long drawn out battles where you easily burn through over 20 to 30 Poke balls trying to catch something with a low Capture rate.
And Legendary’s were way worse because you would need tons of HP restoring items And pray that it doesn’t kill itself through struggle.

My thoughts exactly. You had to think about team composition while you were in the safety of a pokemon centre and forced to commit to it until you reached the next pokemon centre.
If you did this poorly, you'd have a difficult journey and at some point have to decide between braving on and risking running into trainers and pokemon, or taking a longer but safer retreat along a path you just cleared behind you.
Not only was this a pleasant challenge, it also taught players about long term decision making, which is applicable to real life.
Unfortunately, any semblance of challenge in pokemon games is increasingly becoming self-imposed and worst of all, the fans seem to like it that way.

Having to open each box one at a time, and every single time having to go through "Do you want to save the game?...... saving now will overwrite your previous save file, are you certain?", only to find out the pokemon isn't in that box, so you then have to close the pc and try again several more times until you find the pokemon you wanted. people are complaining about it even tho its supposed to used for a different reason, if u saw Pokemon Origins u would notice that Red kept switching different pokemons from time to time in his team before gym battles and all that, that's what the exp share function is for, so players can build a new team without limitations of grinding levels on newly caught pokemon etc.

    • @Themacattack1209
      @Themacattack1209 Год назад +4

Over leveling is a player made problem. You can literally switch out team members if they are leveling up too much and you can avoid wild encounters and trainers, so players can literally avoid the problem altogether if they choose to. I love it because it makes it so much easier to keep a team around the same levels and makes leveling much, much faster. Besides, Pokémon is geared towards children and new players who are generally not very good at the game compared to veteran and collective players, so of course they’re going to make it accessible and easy for them to be able to play and beat without overwhelming challenge, so additions like the experience share make it easier for those players too.

Those games don’t feel that old but it’s crazy watching this video and seeing just how many of these changes were implemented later on, and that I didn’t grow up with. I had to deal with HMs, going to the Pokémon center to use the PC, using the move reminder, only random encounters, grinding to level up, etc. Even though I’m not that old of a fan all things considered.

As someone who actually didn't hate random encounters, the ! icon that appeared in the grass in Sword and Shield was a huge improvement. Instead of just running up and down until the encounter happens, you actually SEEK the pokemon out. Or you could avoid them if you wanted to... when the annoying overworld pokemon weren't constantly swarming around you.
Now we have only overworld Pokemon and they pop in and out of reality constantly, making me wish we had just kept the random encounters, or have them spawn out of bushes or something.

1:48 hot take but i actually really like HMs. I thought they were a nice way to have the player and their pokemon feel more like an actual team, overcoming a variety of obstacles that isn't exclusively battles. the only problem was that HMs for the most part seemed to be on the weaker side which i always felt was unnecessary. i think HMs should be worth keeping on your team's movesets, so cut and rock smash imo should definitely be stronger
now dont get me wrong, i UNDERSTAND why most people dont like HMs, but for me personally, i'd rather have HMs over ride pokemon, since otherwise, i feel like my team can be more of a glorified battle army rather than an actual TEAM, and that honestly does kind of break the immersion for me a little bit when it comes the team aspect. just make the HMs actually decently useful moves, and make being able to remove them easier (i'd recommend have the move deleter in every pokemon center for those who wanna remove HMs)
TL;DR, - i feel that HMs, and field moves in general, were a genuinely good idea that i think should've probably been kept with better execution. that way you can have the player and their pokemon feel less like a general and his soldiers. i dont want ride pokemon again nor do i want the HMs to be handled by pokemon i dont already own

I mean, a rom hack am playing right now solve all the problems with HMs: The way they work there is that you don't need to teach them to use their Field effect, all you have to do is get them and then you can simply activate them by simply interacting with the obstacle they would overcome (Cut, Strength, Surf, Waterfall) or select them in the menu under the Pokemon Paty screen (Flash, Fly).

Im also just fine with it because I like the reasoning being that its a school uniform so you wear it when doing the school activity of the treasure hunt.
