  • This easy tomato relish or chutney recipe keeps things very classic using Italian influences to give you a relish that is perfect for burgers or other meats as well as going beautifully with hard cheeses.
What I love most is that it can be eaten immediately as a condiment, kept up to 3 weeks in the fridge or put in sterilised jars and kept for 6 months in the cupboard. So it is great as a bit of a kitchen present to yourself or anyone that would appreciate it
    Ingredients
    Makes 400ml
    500g cherry tomatoes
    1 small onion
    1 red chilli
    4 cloves garlic
    1 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp nigella seeds (black onion seeds)
    2 tsp dried oregano
    2 bay leaves
    100ml red wine vinegar
3 tbsp soft light brown sugar
    pinch of sea salt

Hey Gareth, always enjoy your recipies and especially the ones that are for relishes and Chutney, I recently had a tomato chutney with crushed coriander seeds. I'm going to try this recipe with nigella seeds, which I also love! Thanks for all your enthusiasm. Any chance of an orange chutney with say, ginger, and mustard seeds?

Thanks very much, the idea of orange chutney has officially intrigued me 🤔 I've never had one, marmalade is as far as I've gone but can see it working

I suggest you use healthy coconut sugar. It has a caramel taste to it and it is brown n healthy unlike all other sugars.

Sounds like a good idea, you could certainly substitute it if you want to make it healthier
