  • The ZPU-4 is a towed, quadruple-barreled anti-aircraft gun based on the Soviet KPV 14.5 mm machine gun. It entered service with the Soviet Union in 1949 and is used by over 50 countries worldwide. Double- and single-barreled version of the weapon exist, called the ZPU-2 (two variants) and ZPU-1 respectively.

    The North Korean government recently used a ZPU-4 (probably of Chinese origin) to execute a former defence minister, back in March. There was little but fragments left of the poor guy...

    I cut the bullet open from one of these things. The penatrator is about the size of a 50cal bullet. It is a real day wrecker

    They're cool for AAA but they'd be bad ass gate guarders.
    They'll stop anything short of a tank or heavily armored IFV like a bradley or warrior.

    True, but i wasn't ever saying what we had isn't better.
    What i was saying was simply that the ZPU-4 would work far more successfully in much more capable hands.

    @GunsOfThePhoenix - It took me lots of effort just to get blank ammunition for my OT-64. Maybe that it's different in the USA, but it's pretty hard to get anything bigger than .50AE in Europe.

    @HeirofGojira91 You probably couldn't penetrate the hull or the turret. You could definitely take off one of it's tracks though. Maybe even jam the turret :D

  • @HeirofGojira91
    @HeirofGojira91 13 лет назад

    @peepeevagi Could have a chance on vulnerable vision ports, optical equiptment, fuel tanks, wheels, transmission or rear areas...but again its plain suicide against heavility armoured tanks - unless the armour is for some good weird reason as hell shoddy.

  • @HeirofGojira91
    @HeirofGojira91 13 лет назад

    @peepeevagi What about ... a ... TIGER I tank? Using AP rounds of course. The reason I ask was because in WWII soviet AT teams with the PTRS or PTRD were instructed to strike the lower hull armour, fuel tanks or upper hull deck armour. Of course there is the optics vulnerable as well. Or would the AP bounce off helplessly off the 100mm armour or 110mm mantlet?

    In Sri Lanka, the Navy mounted them on small boat for littoral warfare! outstanding results! shreads Aluminium/composit or fiber hulls to bits!
    Agreed with the gate guard stuff..won't want to run in to one of them!
    Where is this clip from? NATO documentary? is it up for download?

  • @dragonbutt

    @HeirofGojira91 If they were ap rounds then you could penetrate a sherman's armor at certain spots. You'd be able to disable one easily. Shoot the tracks, then shoot the turret untill it jams :D

  • @HeirofGojira91
    @HeirofGojira91 13 лет назад

    @peepeevagi would it have a chance against a Sherman tank? Dumb question but given the Sherman's armour wasn't exactly 'awesome' how'd it fare...

  • @HeirofGojira91
    @HeirofGojira91 13 лет назад

    @peepeevagi Oh and did you hear sometime in Iraq an M1A2 was disabled by a single 12.7mm well-aimed shot to a power auxillary unit. Scary...then that means a 14.5mm - should ... have no problems neither if well-aimed... :S

  • @HeirofGojira91
    @HeirofGojira91 13 лет назад

    @peepeevagi but like how the commentator notes; the protection of the crew in the machine gun is also a compromise - I doubt if anybody can withstand the hit of a tank gun - Sherman or Tiger I - HE shells are not something to play around with but yes - jamming the turret - and not to mention enough noise to wake the fallen - even veteran tankers would be unnerved by rounds bouncing off the tank.

    @HeirofGojira91 There have been reports of Soviet 14.5 mm round penetrating the armor of the M1. All tanks can be stopped even the M1. Just knock its treads off and you can make it a useless bunker. You can knock the treads off with explosives in a road bomb or AT mine. Then all it can do is sit there and wait for help. If the crew tries to bail you can kill them. That simple.

    So imagine them with people with more skill and ability with them? From a fortified firing point? xD
    They have lots of potential, but people just dont use them too well. It takes a REAL military to put them to good use :D

    Look it up. It happened. It was the weaker side armor. But it did penetrate. You mean my theory on how to stop one? I am talking about Guerilla warfare, not open country fighting. Use your head. You could also use anti tank trenches, Just a big ditch for the tank to fall in. It would only have to do so for half of the tank, once that happens you can hit with RPG's on the top of the turret. But an M1 would be easy to stop in an urban enviroment. especially one with very tall buildings

    Ukrainians need to make these en masse to counter UAV mass attacks. Keep the S-300, PAC-3 and IRIS-T SLM interceptors for actual aircraft, cruise missiles and hypersonic weapons.

    @hazeemarra3d mucho desperdicio de munición, solo que los formara en fila a 7 o 10 personas y les dispare aun que la bala yo creo se desviaría al 4 cuerpo y al 5to no le pegaría o le tiraría el brazo solamente, sale mas barata una .50 Bmg o la de kalashnikov o hasta una 9mm , pero la neta seria interesante ver como mata gente con ese aparatote , (interesante, cruel y sadico)

    But you have to be a fool to think you can't knock an M1's tread off with an RPG or Explosives. Also like I said on another video, the Russians would have thousands of tanks. They would out number the M1. The T-72 or even T-80 could damage the ballistic computer and stop the crew from using the laser range finder. This would cut back on the M1's ability to land accurate shots. It is possible. The gun would also lose stabilization which would make moving shots impossible.
