Colbert is a fantastic interviewer. He's so smart and can interview anyone on any subject. I really look forward to hearing Interviews with people other than actors who have movies coming out. There are exceptions ie. Tom Hanks. He's a terrific conversationalist.
Letterman is successful because he knows when to shut up and get out of the way. This interview is evidence of that. When Colbert is your guest, you really don't need to do much.
I must say the image quality in this video was so good that it was the most beautiful thing to ever fill my computer screen. lol Strange thing to say, but true.
Letterman has been around for 40 years. He pushed so many talents and made their careers with his show. I don't find him so funny either compared to Colbert, but you gotta think after so many years it's hard to stay fresh and on top of it all.
Colbert Stephen Colbert is such a smart and all around great person. I will always be a fan. His show is definately one of the most important and influential programs out on the air at the moment. You'd have to be an idiot not to watch the show, and that's ok, if you don't watch the it.
He is so awesome I love him! He is always smiling and happy too, I don't know if he really is that happy but it sure seems like it. I love John Stewart too but he always has this serious look on his face most of the time.
I do find Letterman really likable. I was maybe 1 year old when he first started his show, and friends of mine who were actually conscious at that point tell me that he was Colbert level hilarious back then. While I don't see it now necessarily, I can believe it. He is really cool and charismatic, and after doing it for so long I can imagine anyone just mellowing out over a similar period of time.
The sad thing is that Letterman used to be great. He's a shell of his former self now a days, but if you have the time you should look up some of his old interviews from the 80's. The man was really one of the best back then
I went to Loyola Marymount for a while with George Lucas's son Jett and he was a really cool guy but we always felt awkward talking about his dad, especially after the South Park Indiana Jones episode. I came up with this back then and it is still true: The only kids with a celebrity parent who probably wouldn't take a shitload of jokes about them are Stephen Colbert's kids. All I can think of people saying to them is "you have the coolest dad ever"
Most of his public appearances are in character. You can tell when he is, because he does his hyperbolic, superlative "schtick". Out of character, he's erudite and well rounded.
Letterman is really funny but I think my favourite talk show is Conan because I love the way Conan and Andy interact. Having said that, I do love Letterman's "Small Town News" segment which doesn't have an equivalent on Conan. Even though Jon Stewart gets all the praise, Stephen Colbert is at least twice as funny. I love his pseudo-conservative character.
@goodcoffie Many people watched a congressional hearing for the 1st time to see Colbert, he not only raised the plight of farm workers, he also introduced an apathetic viewer to a crucial aspect of democracy. The problem is not simple, poor mexican farmers are crossing the border because US farm subsidies have destroyed their livelihoods in Mexico, Immigration will fall if the US stops farm subsidies, BUT expect to pay a lot more for your meals.
October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!! October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!! October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!! Find out more about it, it concerns you. Spread the word!!!
I think Stephen Colbert is much funnier then Jon Stewart. I crack up ever episode of The Colbert Report, but only laugh every few Daily Shows. Stephen doesn't need correspondents, he's funny by himself. Stewart may have started many famous comedians we know today, but Stephen is far better
Love Colbert so much. Look up "Barack (Eminem 'Stan' Spoof)" for a funny election parody. And obviously "Will the Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up" if you haven't seen that one.
Stephen is playing a character, Jon is playing himself. It's easier to be funny when your acting. Also Jon focus more on political humor in a (wtf?) kind of way. Stephen focus more on his character and uses sarcasm to sell it. I love them both though
For you who wonder, Colbert was always in character in public appearances until recently; There's an interview with him on a news show and then speaking at Northwestern Commencement where he isn't. But after the Bush years there's just not the neurotic fodder anymore. He's not as stringent. He may be doing other characters sometimes?
@oNealProductions US laws don't apply to kids in Germany because they are in Germany. But if one of them traveled to NY, US laws would apply to him. He would for instance be afforded freedoms of speech which he is denied back home. American laws apply to every legal person (check wikipedia for what that means exactly) on American soil. Even foreigners and foreign corporations doing business here. Citizenship has nothing to do with it, rights are intrinsic and inalienable.
@denise81 Corporations are not all held in America. By supporting Citizens United you are allowing foreign money to swing the outcome of US elections. This is a national security concern. Foreign entities have never been able to vote in the US or influence our political process, now they can quite easily.
@deinse81 What disturbs me though, is that the end result of the Citizens United decision is not truly about "speech" but that foreign corporations can spend an unlimited amount of money, millions and millions of dollars, to influence elections within the US and for the most part, we aren't even allowed to know who they are. Campaign finance was effed enough to begin with.
@deinse81 "American laws apply to every legal person (check wikipedia for what that means exactly) on American soil" You said this. You brought it up. Why is what I said irrelevant?
@CanYouHackett97 that's not fair now :p..they have 2 completely different shows. Stephen Colbert plays a character and Stewart does not. I see where you are coming from though.
@goodcoffie Um, Stephen Colbert was there to prove that illegal immigrants are not "taking Americans' jobs away." There were only like 7 Americans who actually showed up for work. Maybe you should watch his show. I'm not surprised at all that many in Congress are to stupid to get it. But that's really not his fault or problem. He's so sweet, always seems to be so full of energy :) Bless him and Jon Stewart.
Colbert is a fantastic interviewer. He's so smart and can interview anyone on any subject. I really look forward to hearing Interviews with people other than actors who have movies coming out. There are exceptions ie. Tom Hanks. He's a terrific conversationalist.
I like how Mr. Colbert is always so clean-cut. It enhances the effect of his psychosis.
letterman always looks like a drunk old guy who is sleepy
Isn't he ?
No he's a sexual demon
Letterman is successful because he knows when to shut up and get out of the way. This interview is evidence of that. When Colbert is your guest, you really don't need to do much.
I must say the image quality in this video was so good that it was the most beautiful thing to ever fill my computer screen. lol Strange thing to say, but true.
Seeing this is kinda surreal since Colbert now heads the Late Show as the replacement for Letterman. Foreshadowing?
Stephen Colbert's mind is incredible, I can't figure out how it works
He is the funniest, most sarcastic comedian I have ever seen;D
Yeah - I've wondered the same thing for years. Pure. Talent.
Is it bad that the entire time I couldn't focus on anything but Stephen's jacket still being buttoned up? YUGE pet peeve of mine.
you ruined the interview for me
He had to stay in his buttoned-up Colbert Report persona.
these two are great
Steven Colbert is the DaVinci of comedy!
Just the loveliest, sweetest guy on the planet! Can't wait to be at the march on October 30th, keeping the fear for the UK!!
I know, right? He really rallies us together. I'm so proud to be a Republican and to have the support of him. God bless.
I love 720HD, Great picture. Let's get all videos in this format.
What makes Colbert funnier than the funniest is the face he makes when he makes jokes :P
I absolutely love this guy
Letterman has been around for 40 years. He pushed so many talents and made their careers with his show. I don't find him so funny either compared to Colbert, but you gotta think after so many years it's hard to stay fresh and on top of it all.
Colbert

I agree. Letterman has been doing this every day for the last 25 years. You can't expect him to be nebulous of wit every time he's on the air.
This man is a visionary
Colbert is so stupid handsome.
Half right
He is so awesome I love him! He is always smiling and happy too, I don't know if he really is that happy but it sure seems like it. I love John Stewart too but he always has this serious look on his face most of the time.
Colbert is the man!!
He nailed it
I do find Letterman really likable.
I like how he is half in character.
I am ever so fascinated as to how this man's brain works so fast.
I LOVE this guy!
He's so sweet
The sad thing is that Letterman used to be great. He's a shell of his former self now a days, but if you have the time you should look up some of his old interviews from the 80's. The man was really one of the best back then
i wonder how hard it is for him to stay in character
LOL OMG THE WAY HE WALKED IN XD
lol i love when talk show hosts interview other hosts =]
Just the loveliest guy on the planet!!! :-)
Love!
he went to my college hell yeah
I like how he is half in character.
That interview should have been at least doubled in length.
A great one! It's Got To Be Real - Cheryl Lynn
this is awesome. omg.
I went to Loyola Marymount for a while with George Lucas's son Jett and he was a really cool guy but we always felt awkward talking about his dad, especially after the South Park Indiana Jones episode. The cost of liberty "vigilance and paranoia"! Fox's motto (the paranoia part)? LOL
wow...letterman rips colbert apart.. just amazing..
His face at 4:16 :D
No, really. This man is a genius.
Most of his public appearances are in character. You can tell when he is, because he does his hyperbolic, superlative "schtick". Out of character, he's erudite and well rounded.
If you told Colbert after this interview that hes gonna be the one to takeover The Late Show in 8 years I wonder what would Stephen Say?
anyone else think this video looks especially gorgeous? at least the motion does. high frame rate?
I can't see Congress being all that scary for him after the White House Correspondent's Dinner stunt?
DAMN RIGHT!
8:30 Wtf was that?!?
Saw those, really funny with wit.
lol? they wouldnt compare them if they didn't care. your comment made me laugh
Letterman is really funny but I think my favourite talk show is Conan because I love the way Conan and Andy interact. "Bup bup, bup bup" at 0:39 just awkward. Haha but Stephen Colbert is the best. -3
Did you get your first HD screen?
He (Stephen Colbert) has the personality of president of the US
Haha, I gotta say the HD plays a little but I've never paid attention to him until now, he looks like my grand mother
if steven colbert were any smarter, he would be able to move objects with his mind lol
when i read this, it was with stewey's voice.
what word did they cut out?
When Colbert was funny. And not just a peddler of corporate media lies and whatever the narrative of the day is. - And Letterman was just the best.
what is the song they played when he first came out?
@krziga I noticed that, I think its because he is deaf in his right ear. I read something about it
@goodcoffie Many people watched a congressional hearing for the 1st time to see Colbert, he not only raised the plight of farm workers, he also introduced an apathetic viewer to a crucial aspect of democracy.
The problem is not simple, poor mexican farmers are crossing the border because US farm subsidies have destroyed their livelihoods in Mexico, Immigration will fall if the US stops farm subsidies, BUT expect to pay a lot more for your meals.
Why does Letterman have a show? This is only watchable because of Colbert.
@ 8:34 what was that sound?
Stephen Colbert has elf ears. I cannot unsee this.
October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!!
October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!!
October 15th Worldwide Revolution!!!
Find out more about it, it concerns you.
Spread the word!!!
one question: Is he in character? Or is he being himself?
wow dave looks much older when he's in HD
@DopeDethrone I watch them both!
@surfingsuicune At the beginning he appears to be fighting with it and says "I don't know what to do with it"!
Colbert looks like that one cop in the Police Academy movies. The scared one.
yes
Locked eh? I will have to make sure to piss on one of the locks when I'm there.
I think Stephen Colbert is much funnier then Jon Stewart. I crack up ever episode of The Colbert Report, but only laugh every few Daily Shows. Stephen doesn't need correspondents, he's funny by himself. Stewart may have started many famous comedians we know today, but Stephen is far better
man i wish stewart and colbert would become president and vice president :/
Love Colbert so much. Look up "Barack (Eminem 'Stan' Spoof)" for a funny election parody. And obviously "Will the Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up" if you haven't seen that one.
Stephen is playing a character, Jon is playing himself. It's easier to be funny when your acting. Also Jon focus more on political humor in a (wtf?) kind of way. Stephen focus more on his character and uses sarcasm to sell it. I love them both though
Letterman's face at 6:48
that would be super super super super super super
you win
This is fucking genius

I agree :D
@jabbid111
Not on that channel.
Write-in Stewart/Colbert!
no, not at all. jon stewart himself said he doesn't have that sort of ability.
@denise81 Corporations are not all held in America. By supporting Citizens United you are allowing foreign money to swing the outcome of US elections. This is a national security concern. Foreign entities have never been able to vote in the US or influence our political process, now they can quite easily.
Colbert for 2012 President plox
@KatrinaMess he is doing Bill, and still is XD

Why?
Locked porta pottys? what kind of trouble? 1:31
Is Colbert in character here? Or is this just him?
@deinse81
"American laws apply to every legal person (check wikipedia for what that means exactly) on American soil"

i like dave's emo haircut
