- NEO-GEO MVS review. www.ClassicGameRoom.com Classic Game Room reviews the NeoGeo MVS arcade machine from SNK originally released in 1990 (1991 U.S.) the Neo-Geo MVS stood for "multi video system" and allowed arcade operators to swap out game cartridges in their big red cabinet instead of replacing entire, expensive arcade machines. CGR adopted a 4-slot Neo-Geo MVS arcade machine and has it loaded with Samurai Showdowm, World Heroes 2, Neo Drift Out and Shock Troopers 2nd Squad! Good time ahead!

Damn I miss this channel....
It was awesome
Me too. He hasn't even published on Amazon in a long time.
I bought an actual 2 slot big red because of this man. Loved classic game room!
This is exactly what I want in my house/man cave! Spent countless hours at the arcade pumping quarters into one and it was tons of fun. I miss the old arcade rooms/businesses. Old stomping grounds was in Anchorage, AK at Hanger 18 and Space Station. They are no longer and that's a shame...
Damn shame. It was so much fun spending all day at the arcade with friends
When he said big red monster I instantly thought of Kane.
I bought Shock Troopers 2nd Squad by arcade archives for the Nintendo switch after watching you play it. You do a good job reviewing games. Keep up the good work.
DAMN i was born 1980..that was GOLD times.I am soo sad..we cant run the time back, and feel the same feelings...
Good old Neo-Geo :)
great system, great games, everything.
My 2 favorite Neo Geo games:
All of the Metal slug series
League Bowling
i dont get why someone would thumbs down this when all it is, is a guy sharing something he loves with the viewers, great vid mate
Mark, I am 16 years old, and I'm going to start working soon. As soon as I have enough money, this is what I'm going to buy.
Seriously. When I go to college I'm gonna lug this thing there with me and I will be the most awesome guy in the dorm block.
In addition to my N64 with Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 3, and Goldeneye 007, as well as a Genesis with NHL '94, a Super NES with Super Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat II.
Oh yeah. It'll be kewl.
Awesome!!!!!!! Mark, your are the KING of all us NERDS!!!
This video made my day and brought me back to memory lane. Those were the good times.
your the only guy i can watch game reviews from
Hey, Mark! My home-made MAME arcade machine is complete! :) Thanks to you for planting the idea in my mind. Glad your MVS arcade is okay.
I am very happy for this great video gaming history channel. That being said, I wish there were videos on RUclips in general or even a website talking about 8bit and 16bit game design ON Arcade system boards only (not on consoles)...
Talking about how the art was made using 16x16 or 32x32 tile sets for the background, how they used to be set and called for...
When did layers (which added parallax scrolling) first appeared...
Programming languages used (types of assembly) and 8bit/16bit sound chips... specially the YM2151
Great video and review! I can't wait to get one of these.
Cheers!
This is a badass cabinet!!! You sir earned a sub!!
I remember him doing that to his Centipede machine. The LCD screen looked REALLY nice!
Aww man,i'm so jelly right now.You go big guy!
Very nice. This would be my one and only choice for an arcade in the home.
Great video! What type of joysticks are in there? Do they use leaf or micro switches? Thanks in advance!
Bought an MVS with metal slug 1 for $250 6 years ago from a YMCA. Someone goofed.
This is my biggest dream on the life.. A NEO GEO MVS!!! on my room!! amazing dude!! enjoy it!!
Oh man, that's really awesome, you make me desire one MVS Cabinet in my room to be the most cool person EVER!
I had a lot of fun playing games on the Neo-Geo MVS! Too many games I enjoyed on this Arcade system, also I am a fan of Sega System 16, and CPS 1, 2, and 3!
Damn, used 77K Times and still looks beautiful, damn if i had the Money and Space, i would already had gotten such a Machine, im jealous Mark :P
Glad you got it working, Mark. :)
Mark you need to set up an Earth Base Arcade and share your Arcade Machine collection with Earth. You should call it, the Classic Game Room Earth Base 1
I so need one of these. I have a gameing room, but no video games. Just pool table, ext. I NEED something like this for sure. That would be too awsome.
Great video.buying 4pcs.this week.I dont know if they are original cabinets from Neo Geo but they run on this Neo Geo MVS carts.
love your videos! greetings from Lithuania:)
I used to love these things. They had one in Super Pizza. Games were Metal slug, Bust-a-Move, Aero Wings, and another game i dont remember. It still might be there. I need to check it out.
VERY VERY cool console game indeed. Many of the best 2D games were made around that time. I also want one! Nice review.
For the intrim, if there's a vertical center pot, lower the image more towards the bottom (I noticed a decent-sized unused region on the screen). It doesn't fix the problem, but the rollover will be a lot less, until you get the defecting pot out of the vertical circuitry.
I remember these in arcades back in the day...man those was the good ol days. You put your token on the machine if you wanted to play next if their was a line, games like king of the fighters, fatal fury...man I miss those days.
I remember back in the early 2000s when you could get a big red for $50 in nice shape.
If i recall correctly some if not all of these cabinets had some type of credit card sized slot under the controls that could be used for something. What was it used for?
Great review. I am going to start collecting for the Neo Geo. Thing is it gets kinda of pricey but that is all in the fun of collecting.
Hola!
I write this review from Los Cabos Mexico, I love your videos and since you own a MVS arcade Neo Geo I wanted to ask you for a big favor....I just got myself a MVS system but it came with a custom cabinet... My projectnis to build a replica of the original cabinet, it won't be an original but at least I could try to make it look as much as possible to one and My question is if you could give me the measures of your arcade machine so I can build one like yours?
Thank you! And keep the great work!
Always thought about gettin an AES machine cartridges are soooo expensive though. Great review glad it works Neio Drift looks awesome I remember that from Arcades, hope t gets a PSN release. I should buy Super SIde Kicks 1 or 2.
Wish I had room for a neo geo cab, I ended up just buying a Supergun that will play my MVS-FZ1 on my HDTV via an Xrgb-mini. I do love it.
The buttons come in 4 different colors: red, yellow, green and blue. That's awesome.
Hey mark , I am wanting to make an arcade cabinet out of ply wood at some stage, using my old pc as the operating system. Does neo drift out have multiplayer and would it work on the MAME emulator?
Going to university/college. I want one of these for my dorm room :D
Also i forgot to mention mark the mvs can be set to free play, check it's dip switches it should be on the back or on it's side.
Best comment he has in this video is at 5:26. He says, "But I think the MVS is just more bad azz. It should have been called the "MFVS"". That had me cracking up!
I'm sure that screen issue can be fixed via the v-height adjust on the screens main pcb.
"The big red monster" MVSKane?
hey u are online right now mark? cool
i just watched parts 1 - 3
congratulations!
You have a neo geo arcade machine and no metal slug? *tsk tsk tsk*
TheWyman55 same
at least he got 4 games with the machine...
I'm sure by now he must have had a Metal Slug game
I would like a arcade machine just for the fightning games. Nice video as always.
Mark needs to get that badass 150 in 1 MVS cart...definitely worth the money.
Got a flashback to when I use to own a Shinobi cabinet which I kept in my bedroom as a teenager. I still wish I didn't sell it!
Awesome, did you ever get this fixed up 100%?
am thinking about buying a neo geo mvs i love neo geo so much what new games do you have on neo geo now
I agree Mark is the best reviewer on the internet. He is also one of the oldest reviewers, he has reviews dating back to 1999. He has a lot of them posted on this youtube account.
The neo geo mvs is my fav arcade machine ever
Some of those multi-game Neo-Geo carts pack a whopping selection. I've gone down to the taco shop and wasted an hour, just on previewing from the menu of one.
And, after visiting a local game shop, I was blown away to see an impressive library in there of those Neo-Geo carts. (Plus the $99.99 Intellivision cart...*something* of Doom.)
I actually didn't know this until now, but CGR was the first video review series to ever be on the internet in 1999.
Great video I have arcades a home myself, JPN Candy type.
"How'd he get the flamethrower. That's my gun!!" hahaha
I think i seen one of this at fast food place. cool to play while you wait for your burrito to be ready
you lucky boy!! good work!!
Hi Mark: I just want to ask you if the outside glass is dark or a regular glass, and if there is a black plastic or cardboar bezel sorrouding the monitor inside. Regards from México, Ricardo Raffoul.
I have many of these (16 or so) on a PS2 collection, I bought for just about nothing. They're awesome.
I Remember Back in the Day when They Were Advertising the Neo Geo In a Magazine, they were Advertising it as a Couple Of Hot Dogs, The Sega Genesis Hot Dog Was Bare, But the Neo Geo Hot Dog was Fully Decked Out, Stating That The Neo Geo Was, and Still is One of the Most Powerful Video Game System. Would Love To Own One.
Hope Classic Game Room reviews the NEO GEO X in just a few weeks! I know I'm getting one.
Good times ahead indeed, great to see you got it in a working state, lukemorse1 is a life saver :D. Now excuse me while I play some AES :D
Twinkle Star Sprites is an underrated game. Lots of fun!
If you like Neo Drift Out, you'd love the original Great 1000 Mile Rally. Same play style with amazingly classy cars and delightful presentation. Possibly the best character/car selection music of all time. The 'evolution model' revision added even more great cars!
Thank you for summarizing the video for me, but i watched the video and understood all that. I was questioning whether an arcade cabinet, cartridge based or not, would count as a game console.
The Neo Geo machine is awesome. I also have cabinet in my house. The Neo Geo is the best arcade console to have because you can swap out games. That's really nice i dont have to have 100s of machines in my house. Its a 4 slot MVS and it also has a 161 in 1 cartridge in one of the slots. You should get one of this carts and review Captain Tomaday. Its a very wacky/fun shmup.
If you ever get your hands on a copy, I would love to see you do a review for Crossed swords.
I just noticed. You didn't put the metal shielding back on the board. Maybe that's causing the screen issues? (probably not, but it's worth a try)
A cool red cab with a name that sticks.
Best arcade system ever!
i remember playing on a arcade back in the day (it was a 2D beat m up), and litterly the flesh of my left hand was off when i quited playing and noticed it just then x) (On rail shooters where awesome to .... actually every kind of game on a arcade :p!!). i wish arcades came back!
Mark,
I'm going to be picking one of these up in a week and am wondering if you have any tips for moving it. I'll be in a full sized truck, and am just wondering if I should lay it down or stand this bad boy up. How did you move it?
This would be a good question to look into on arcade forums. The arcade collectors are really a different group from the console crowd that this channel represents. To successfully own arcade cabs you have to be fairly resourceful at troubleshooting and repair, things that can be learned from following that community.
To attempt to answer your question though, you should be able to ship it lying on it's back but before moving it make sure everything inside is secure. If the monitor isn't bolted down then it will fall, which will crack the neck of the CRT thereby ruining it. FWIW, monitors are the most frequent source of issues with arcade cabs. A CRT is far more desirable than an LCD (which doesn't look right), but to keep a CRT monitor working takes a combination of money and/or troubleshooting skills. Some monitors have better reputations than others, of course.
There's a popular arcade related channel that I watch called "John's Arcade" where he has routinely transported cabs laid on their back in an SUV. He makes very long and thorough restoration videos, but you might find them interesting.
TheeSophisticatedCarrot /_\ I wouldn’t buy one with a CRT that needs work ha, no need to go down that rabbit hole.
Where are you these days?
Wow, that is a large number of plays. I guess this machine was a real money maker for the operator :)
... Continued from previous comment... Wondering if the red is actually vinyl with white letters painted on it as I had heard from somebody?
Awesome machine !!!
Thanks dude im gonna look it up now...
Needs more Neo Turf Masters!
Can't wait to get my neo geo x.
man... i miss your video
@2:24 I always do that at our arcade machine god miss the that days...
Did Luke tell you what the problem was with the motherboard, im guessing it was cold solder because that's the first thing Luke checks and it got repaired quickly but let me know if you see this because I'm very interested in knowing!
Does anyone know how to fix that screen issue? My old TV does the same thing.
this is so beautiful.
neo drift out is awesome. it's on my multicart
I voted as I liked your video due to the insert coin detail in the video.
that's awesome that lukemorse fixed it up for you!
Wow cgr has everything!
I always wanted a neo geo
I remmember playing that figthing game at the Fish n chips shop...What is it ?
Room tour please Mark!!!
Amazing !!!
I know a hell of a lot of collectors will jump on me for this, but I have a 151in1 cartridge, well worth the money and you can experience a hell of a lot of games. I
ive actually seen a NeoGeo AES in person with 4 games complete! Ive left them though in favor of Dreamcast. besides I couldn't find the right power supply.
I want to buy exactly these nostalgi arcade buttons and the microswitches that follows with them, can somebody help me? what is the name of these buttons and also which microswitch does this MVS machine use? Cherry microswitch 75g? microswitch 50g? Leaf switch?
