    Just found out there's a Faraday 5420. The 24 VDC versions of this horn drew a whopping 600 mA!!! Likely non-polarized.

    02:11 to 02:21 That Federal Signal 450D Series B4, 63 mA horn sounded at the same pitch of a scoreboard horn/buzzer

      Actually the wii crash sound got inspiration from this!

      It was Iwata himself who chose that sound after visiting an old American school with a 4207 just to watch them test the system.
      Delighted at the sound of the 4051's, he said, "Eureka! I will program the Wii to make this exact sound upon crashing."
      He was a huge fan of Simplex, even going as far as to call the Wii's successor the Wii U after the 4100's successor, the 4100U.
      (I made all of this up. Them sounding similar is a weird coincidence)

    i have a rare wheelock 31-6, and it draws 3 amps. not milliamps. amps. and it is LOUD

    • @Fahrenheit4051
      @Fahrenheit4051  2 года назад

      3 amps isn't actually a lot for such a low-voltage horn. A 12 VDC horn that draws 70 mA would have the same power consumption as a 24 VDC horn that draws 35 mA.
      Additionally, the amperage of the AC horns doesn't correspond to the DC horns at the same voltage.

    I remember hearing all of the talk about Simplex 4051s being ungodly loud before learning about these different makes and models. That’s why when I got my 4051, I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t deafening like others were saying it was. I thought it was either mine was dying, I got too used to the excruciating loudness of Advances and NS’s, or if these people were bluffing and being overly dramatic. Turns out, I got sorta lucky and got a 100 mA horn. That being said, I currently have a Faraday 5540 on the way due to morbid curiosity.

      I had the same experience. I had a bunch of Faraday 5640's and 4051's, most of which I sold. A few of them were really loud, but not to the degree of the 5540.

    Man that was really cool! That first 450D sounded raspy though. Are those 4903-9101 Strobe Plates from the early 90's?

    • @Fahrenheit4051
      @Fahrenheit4051  2 года назад

      Yeah, I'm going to have to carefully tune it. Problem is that it has a soldered-on strobe, which can deliver a nasty shock.
      And those 4903's actually started being made in the very late 1980's. So I'm not sure.
