    The more I read about the Cantonese, the more I realise how little I know! (Random fun fact I just found out: We call hot pot 打邊爐, like hitting the stove, because when we stick our chopsticks in and move it around, it's like we're beating the stove😱)There’s wayyyyy to many things that I wish I could cover in this video, but we'd love to hear from you! What's something you wish people know about Cantonese? 🤔

    what a beautiful video! i really love how direct and "aggressive" cantonese sounds because it reminds me of my own accent. i watch a lot of hong kong movies and the language is just beautiful to me because it's abrasive. i hope everyone can keep cantonese alive!

    Thank you so much for this video! As a Hongkonger, I am super happy that I finally can find a video to show my CBC kids! They would love to see this and understand anything about Cantonese! They are learning Cantonese not Mandarin! Thanks for explaining why we want to keep this Cantonese as you said that it just feels so good whenever we heard someone speaking Cantonese here! "lei ho ging ar!"

    Interesting video👍👍👍
    Your animation and writings are cute. We do take Cantonese for granted. I'd think more of it when I speak now. Perseve and pass it on.

    I accidentally stumbled on your channel because I wanted to learn more about Mirror and I LOVE these videos of yours about Hong Kong and Cantonese. I was born and raised in the States but would visit family once every year growing up. My Cantonese isn't as good as it used to be and I haven't visited HK in awhile now. Thank you for making these videos because through them, I feel like I'm reliving my childhood and learning so much about my culture :)

    • @dstoryco

      Great question!:)
      From what I've gathered, most people think CantoneseClass101 is the most comprehensive starting point for beginners!
      Once you have the basics covered, I would suggest listening to Canto-music and watching canto reality tv shows. It's the best way to be exposed to the more colloquial ways of speaking:)

    Why does the Cantonese in the idiom says 食米 whereas Mandarin 吃饭? Shouldn't the Cantonese be 食饭?

    • @dstoryco
      @dstoryco  3 года назад

      great question...I can't find an explanation of how this expression came to be😅 but it's funny because that gives us another excuse to talk back to our elders, because it doesn't really make sense for us to 食米 (eat uncooked rice) haha

    Cantonese is way more precise and expressive to describe things, much more accurate than Mandarin. It's a shame that Cantonese is diminishing purely because the dominant esoteric factions in communist china are mostly by the northern barbarians who stole the title and claim themselves as Chinese. Very wrong! Hope the world will know what Cantonese is all about internal of ethnicity, culture band heritage and language in all sort of ways and forms.

    HK is gone. CCP kind of destroyed it. Plus we speak english. -_-' at least 60% of the language and culture lives on vietnam.
