Bertie Wilkinson it’s a bit different. I do agree with what you are saying, it’s mad hard to learn english if it isn’t your native language. However, most speakers of english aren’t native. It’s not uncommon at all for foreigners to learn english. While there are more Mandarin speakers as a whole, it is mostly from native speakers and not many people (in America especially) take the time to learn it, so it’s more rare and a surprise.
It's why I have started learning Mandarin. I come from an area of the UK with a large university/college and there are many Chinese students who recently immigrated. I want to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible, so I've started learning. It is only fair as they have done their best to learn English to fit in
Good point but It's probably different their reaction from English native speakers cause english itself is the connecting world language (common language) without being offensive with my comment by the way, and on the other hand Chinese language is not common to speak it besides the Chinese community or chinese descendents, just my humble and respectful opinion...
@@jmgv75 I think Chinese is also a unifying language- just not for a part of the world you live in. In Asia it is a superpower and a lot of people learn it for business or family reasons. And I don't think Moses is formally educated. Being educated is overrated anyway. Any idiot off the street can take out a massive loan and get a humanities degree, then call themselves educated. In China, far more people speak Mandarin than Cantonese, so it's impressive that he not only speaks the official language, but also speaks one that not even many Chinese people know.
@@dopemarz Not only that but Cantonese is an extremely hard language for a foreigner to learn. Firstly, the language has 6 tones vs Mandarin's 4 tones. Secondly, there is very little digital material available for a non-native speaker to procedurally learn how to speak Cantonese fluently. Like most other regional dialects (e.g. Fuzhounese, Wenzhounese, etc.) the native speakers learn how to speak the language from birth and so the wealth of knowledge for the language is passed down generationally. Linguistic aspects like correct tone usage and pronunciation are so culturally insulated that hearing it out of a foreigners mouth is like encountering a Vulcan from Star Trek in the flesh.

It’s interesting how friendly Chinese people are when English people can speak Chinese but English people literally don’t care if they see a Chinese person speak english
English is easier to speak
@@jmgv75 I think Chinese is also a unifying language- just not for a part of the world you live in. In Asia it is a superpower and a lot of people learn it for business or family reasons. I remember at a language school there being 3 distinct groups- English speakers, Chinese speakers and Spanish speakers. Master those 3 and many doors would open it seems (and yet I chose French and Japanese, sigh).
Rip moses .

Revisiting these videos brings me to tears. RIP to a beautiful man.

"I can also speak Cantonese"

Still can’t believe you’re gone Moses, I remember discovering your videos and watching countless back to back fascinated by the sheer talent and love for languages you had. Gone way too soon as an amazing, hilarious man. Rest well Moses 🖤
I don't know why I always feel great watching the Chinese Cantonese reactions. I keep coming back to watch them on the channel. Great stuff
Lol,they are my favorite too.😁
My mother spoke five languages so had similar experiences. She would have insisted that you come to visit, and spend time at our house. She would have been thrilled by your amazing videos.

Still come back here to watch Moses. And how he inspired me and others is truly remarkable
When I started watching your videos I could only hear mumbling when you were speaking in Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) but now I can pretty much differentiate between words and sort of understand some other thanks to the subtitles!
I'm learning and I wasn't eve aware! Thanks Moses!

How freaking weird it must be to be a tall black dude with a freaking go pro on his forehead speaking chinese
shut yo ass up he cooler than u💀😂
@@whyareyoureadingthis8985 Of course, Moses is cooler than all of us. But dude is right tho. Moses is a very unique individual. You don't just walk out of your house and expect to see a 6'7" black dude fluently speaking a bunch of Asian languages.
It'd be about as weird as seeing a nerdy 60 year old Asian businessman spitting a dope ass freestyle in line at Target. It's not racist, but you just don't expect to see that shit on an average boring day.
Just more proof that stereotypes are bullshit. If u really think its that weird to be black and educated u should go meet some black people.
It's a hidden camera
@@aquari_2344 Not many people, regardless of race, speak so many Asian languages, even amongst Asians themselves. And the fact that he's 6'7" would also lead many people to think he plays basketball, once again, REGARDLESS of his race. Stop looking for reasons to be offended.
And I don't think Moses is formally educated. Being educated is overrated anyway. Any idiot off the street can take out a massive loan and get a humanities degree, then call themselves educated. But true knowledge is only obtained by a select few, like Moses here.
Knowledge > education. Knowledge comes from an individual following their passion, not from a piece of paper.
I think the fishermans reaction is my favourite one of this vid. The way his face lights up and wants to shake laoshu's hand - "lets be friends". Rest in peace Moses, you brought joy to so many people across the globe.

Man....when I watch your vids I realize that I'm smiling the whole time. So good. Keep em coming they make my day brighter!!!
This is the first video I’ve watched since Laoshu passed away. Before that, I used to watch his content on a weekly maybe daily basis always amazed by languages and how they’re utilized actually shape our interactions with other beings. I was lucky enough to exchange several conversations with him on Instagram before his passing. He was always eager to learn in any possible way even by typing in Arabic to chat with me. Very glad I reached out and had a chat with such a bright mind like Moses’.
It wasn’t easy to accept that Moses wouldn’t be here anymore to share with us his experiences and the vast knowledge of languages that he possessed. You will definitely be missed.
RIP
As a non Chinese, even I would melt at the sound of Cantonese.
Jasvinder Singh Hi, there. I am American and just happened upon the video and I’m wondering Why is it more shocking when he speaks Cantonese?
@@tmg9255 Mandarin is the official language of China vs Cantonese is only spoken in certain provinces like Guangdong for example. In China, far more people speak Mandarin than Cantonese, so it's impressive that he not only speaks the official language, but also speaks one that not even many Chinese people know.
dopemarz Thank you for taking the time to reply. 🙏🏽
@@tmg9255 Np ✌🏼
Moses gettin his flex on 💪🏾🔥🔥🔥
These are all my favorite moments flipping from Mandarin then Cantonese and then you really have their heads spinning when u speak there local dialect like fuzhounese.
