    Your go to settings has also ended up becoming my go to settings over the last couple years haha. I like slowest attack/fastest release for rap vocals, Dr Pepper settings for "smoother" sounding compression on slower songs, and attack at 5 or 6 with fastest release and 12:1 ratio for loud aggressive rock vocals. Nice vid man!

      Wouldnt you want to keep the transients or grab them with the 1176? And only compress like 1-2db? Idk wether to use the Dr. Pepper Method or Slowest attack/ Fastest Release. ( I mix rap vocals also )

    • @homestudioacademy
      @homestudioacademy  11 месяцев назад

      @@flamersss the 1176 is a very fast compressor so I use it on the slowest attack and fastest release to only grab the peaks. Then, I use a second compressor (LA2A) to smooth out the entire performance with 3-5db of reduction.
      Here is how to use both together:
      ruclips.net/video/UDWSBnV0obM/видео.html

    • @subtonic24
      @subtonic24 11 месяцев назад

      @@flamersss The slowest setting on an 1176 is 800 microseconds which is still faster than every other compressor on the market, so it will still clamp down on transients. And I actually compress a lot. Anywhere between 7dB-20dB with just an 1176 depending on how energetic I want the rap vocal to sound.

    I sometimes use the same go-to as you, but did notice it sounded very slightly, at least for this genre. At the same time, it opened it up with a bit of clarity. If going for the Dr Pepper setting, I wonder if it can be opened up with EQ whilst keeping that smoother release.

      Hey, Thanks for leaving a comment and for subscribing! My entire vocal chain goes like this:
      1. DeEsser
      2. Subtractive EQ (to remove harsh frequencies)
      3. 1176
      4. LA2A
      5. Additive EQ (boost / enhance recording)

    Do you track vocals with compression? If so, does that compression get printed with the recorded vocal?

    • @homestudioacademy
      @homestudioacademy  Год назад

      It depends on the application. For spoken word (like my talking head videos) yes I do and they get printed. However, for music production I prefer to use the UAD Monitoring mode of my Apollo which doesn’t print. This way if I need to make adjustments in post production I can.

    How can we apply compressor after recording raw vocals.

    • @homestudioacademy
      @homestudioacademy  4 месяца назад

      In post production (in your recording software) just add the compressor to your vocal chain.

    You said it 02:45 Slowest Attack Fast Release... But it seems the controls show the opposite

    • @homestudioacademy
      @homestudioacademy  8 месяцев назад +1

      Slowest attack is 1 and fastest release is 7 on the 1176. It’s the opposite of most compressors.
      Greg Wells even explains it here:

    Isn’t the 1176 backwards tho so wouldn’t 7 be the slowest and 1 be the fastest?

    • @homestudioacademy
      @homestudioacademy  9 месяцев назад

      On the 1176 the settings are backwards: 1 being the slowest and 7 the fastest.
      On most* compressors, the lower the number the faster it is.

      I used the UAD 1176, not the TeRex version. The principles should apply to any 1176 style plugin but check the companies official website to very if the settings work the same as the UAD version.
