I'm more of a canal type, with maybe a lock or two. However, I'd worry about the thing delaminating due to wood expansion/contraction, especially as sat in a conservatory.
The conflict I feel in a river table is to take something raw and natural and biodegradable and imperfect and natural and pollute and juxtapose it with a toxic and perfectly formed material that will eventually spoil in sunlight but never really return cleanly to the earth in anyone's lifetime. Here you mock the concept but also take it to another level. This is satirical, this is proper craftsmanship, this for me is as conflicted as the thing itself. It's art.

My first experiment is going to be with gravy.
Now, THIS IS A RIVER TABLE…. This is the only kind of river table I would ever own
I'm more of a canal type, with maybe a lock or two.
It's art.
oh god proper craftsmanship really? i don't think anybody would be able to mess it up worse during the build, but amazing problem solving skills and some serious dedication and courage though.
But the original river table concept used glass so was/did none of those things
@@spycedezynuk Gosh I didn't know that. I am blinded by my loathing of epoxy.
@@loopinnerthe yeah I get that. Check out Greg Klassen his tables are very beautiful, he claims to be the creator of river tables weather that’s true or not I don’t know for sure.
I was honestly expecting you to cover the river with glass or plastic but honestly, I really do love the open look you did a great job of this and can't wait to go back through your old stuff now that i've found ya! Keep it up
First time I've seen a video from you and it's an instant subscription. I have no idea how people could not bother to subscribe. Awesome build and the only functional river table I've ever seen or heard of. I'd have it no other way. Great job. I know this wasn't easy in any way, and I'm glad you showed how difficult it actually was in the video.
Alright alright alright. Next project: dovetails with actual... Oh no, nevermind.
MATE.
@@MattEstlea No, I've got a better one. A work horse with real... You get the idea. But for real, this video blew my mind!
@@metodemersic Saw horses! Would make a good Halloween video.
Bench dogs?!😳
Great production all around. Thoroughly entertaining. This is the first video of yours that I've come across and it definitely earned a sub! Thanks
This is hands down my favourite wood working video on youtube. Thanks man, this was clearly an insane amount of work
Hands down the best woodworking video of 2021, oh and the table is pretty nice too. Fantastic job!
This is the most awesome take on a River table I have seen. Brilliant! Difficult, full of challenges, and the most awesome cat watering fountain ever! It also prevents people from not paying attention and just setting stuff on the table.
I remember watching someone do this with epoxy and make it look like it ran down the side, BUT YOU ACTUALLY DID IT WITH WATER. This is legendary, and you know it.
This video keeps coming up in my suggestions and I've put off watching it for so damn long, thinking it was yet another traditional river table. How wrong I was. Absolutely phenomenal piece (and video too! Love your editing style and humour)
Eyyyy! Glad it got you eventually, and most of all it paid off! Thanks Rhys 👌
Easily the best river table I've seen, great work!
First time viewer- immediate subscriber! Absolutely gorgeous table and knowing the amount of work that this entailed just blows me away.
Love this table
You cannot say this is a mistake this is one of my favorite river tables. Well done.
